Story
😭Pepper was abandoned and was trying to survive (bonding with other dogs abandoned in the orchards). Pepper was limping and in obvious pain when he entered the shelter. Pepper is shy and avoidant, not leash trained, but still 🤍gentle natured🤍calm and quiet🤍Pepper needs a place where he can learn that people are not bad and he can recover from the trauma and abandonment that he has endured. 📝Pepper was brought in by a field officer on 10/13/25 weighing 68lbs. Per the field notes, 10/04/25 14:58 I was flagged down by the resident at 7255 Vivian. He stated he has Ring camera footage of the dogs on his property and has lost 6 chickens to them. His description matched what I had gotten from ZYLSTRA, two large white and black, similar to a Holstein, dogs, possibly Great Pyrenees mixes. There has occasionally been a brown or tan Pit Bull with them. The dogs are not seen every day, maybe once a week or ten days and always in the dark. The dogs are also said to be very elusive, running away at the first sign of people and usually disappearing into one of the nearby orchards. 10/13/25 11:00 White and black male Pyrenees caught in trap scanned dog. I don’t know how long Pepper was abandoned on his own out there trying to survive with other dogs but he is shy and avoidant, not leash trained, but still gentle natured, calm and quiet. Pepper needs a place where he can learn that people are not bad and he can recover from the trauma and abandonment that he has endured.

Story
Meet Bear — the softest, sweetest, most tenderhearted big baby you’ll ever meet. At just seven months old, this gentle Pyrenees/Lab mix (we think!) is already winning hearts everywhere he goes. He’s incredibly affectionate, loves to lean in for pets, gives the sweetest kisses, and melts into anyone who offers him attention. He’s a people-lover through and through, and he greets new friends with a wagging tail and that soft, soulful expression that makes you feel like you’ve known him forever. Bear is wonderfully dog-friendly and loves to play, especially with pups who enjoy chase games or gentle romps. His favorite move? A joyful little bunny hop—his signature style thanks to past injuries to both hind legs. He’s fully healed now, but the result is his charming, wobbly bounce that only makes him more lovable. He can still play, explore, and enjoy life, but he sometimes runs out of gas sooner than other dogs. A female canine buddy who’s kind, patient, and medium-energy would be his perfect match. Watch Bear’s loving personality and hoppies in action! https://youtu.be/XjuArBJSe6U?si=jCr69j-N8uCWRb8w Despite being a big puppy, Bear is already impressively well-mannered. He’s potty trained, crate trained, and walks beautifully on leash. He checks in with his handler, leans into you as he strolls by your side, and responds easily to light corrections. He’s calm, social, and happy in new places and around new people. He enjoyed his assessment day so much you’d think it was his own meet-and-greet event. Bear’s cat test showed he was politely avoidant—never pushy, and never rude. He was a tad distracted so a retest, and even an overnight stay with kitty friends for Bear would be put in action for cats in a future home. We always want to ensure 100% approval from the kitty committee, just to be sure everyone feels comfortable. He could thrive in almost any home—house, backyard, cozy apartment, busy family life, or quieter environment. The one must-have? A first-floor apartment only, simply because he shouldn’t be doing flights of stairs with his special legs. Other than that, this boy is so easygoing and affectionate that he adjusts beautifully. Bear would likely be wonderful with children due to his gentle, loving nature, but an official kid test can be done before adoption to be certain. He’s still a puppy, so ongoing training and socialization will be important, but he’s already starting from a truly excellent foundation, but he is so ready to learn and grow! Especially if it’s for his forever family! Sweet, soft, cuddly, gentle, affectionate, dog-friendly, well-trained, funny little bunny-hop walk, and a heart made of gold—Bear is the kind of dog who lights up a home. He’s ready to find his people, love them endlessly, and bring so much joy into their lives. If you want a best friend who leans in close, adores you with his whole wiggly body, and makes every day sweeter just by being there… Bear is your boy. Story
What my friends at OHS say about me: My name is Qistibi (though some of my favorite people call me Glacier). I've been spending the last few months in a foster home, and I've grown into a confident, playful, affectionate dog! It can take me a little time to get comfortable with new people, but once I see that I can trust you, I'll show you why all the staff and volunteers love me.I love cuddling, zooming around the backyard, looking out the window with my dog sister and eating tasty treats! Things I don't like include scary vacuums, lawn mowers and other loud noises. I will need to meet any canine companions prior to getting adopted. To learn more about my specific needs, please read my What to Expect handout. The type of home I'm looking for: I must go to a home with a fenced in yard and a low traffic neighborhood. Everyone living in the household will need to meet prior to my adoption.I will need to meet any resident dogs first before going home with you.To learn more about, my specific needs, please read my What to Expect handout. My adoption process: OHS has created a more in-depth adoption questionnaire, which can be accessed via the "Meet Me" button at the top of the profile.Once it is reviewed, you will receive an email with a link to schedule a phone consultation. After your consult, if it feels like a good match, your adoption counselor will schedule an in-person meet and greet and you will meet me with our volunteer and staff handlers. If you fall in love, you will have the option to come in and spend time with me to build a relationship prior to adopting! You can use my favorite toys or treats as positive reinforcement and to teach me new things.Shy and Nervous: I can be worried about new people, new surroundings and touch. I prefer to take things at my own pace and will need to live in a calm environment.I am a sweet and sensitive guy who takes a little time to build trust and make friends.I am still learning how to walk on leash, especially in new environments that can be overwhelming. I need verbal encouragement, patience and of course treats from you to help me!Biggest sweetheart award goes to.... What my friends at OHS say about me:I came from a special rescue case and have a lot to learn. The amazing staff and volunteers have been teaching me how to wear a collar, getting used to a leash, and what it means to be a human's best friend. My previous foster parents (who have nicknamed me "Toe Bean") say I'm the best!I love the outdoors, watching my favorite TV show (Bluey), playing with my pittie foster brother, and trying to steal spices off of the spice rack! I've been really good with potty training, and have gained a lot of confidence in my foster home!It will be important to spend a few weeks with me in a secure back yard before trying to introduce me to new places, people or things. I am at my best when I get a lot of support and do better with people I have built a trusting relationship with.If I become afraid or startled, I might try to bolt or may pull a leash out of your hands. The type of home I require: I must go to a home with a fully fenced yard. No apartments or busy neighborhoods.Everyone living in the household will need to meet prior to my adoption.I need to go to a home where there is another dog to help boost my confidence and to play with!I will need to meet any resident dogs first before going home with you.To learn more about, my specific needs, please read my What to Expect handout.
