Story
Bumble came from an animal control agency where his life was in extreme danger. He had been picked up as a stray. Bumble had been in a foster for 3 weeks before coming to the rescue. The foster said he is the perfect dog, good with kids, adults, other dogs, even cats who loves to lay around the house. Bumble is 100% a house dog who walks well on a leash though will pull some if sees something he is interested in. Bumble has never tried to get on furniture either. He is a huge fluff ball at 128 lbs who does enjoy being brushed. The animal control agency said he is 2 to 3 years old. If you are looking for a dog who will lay beside you while you work from home or a low-key dog to enjoy, or a dog to take for walks, or for your family, Bumble is a great choice. Bumble is currently looking for a local foster for a short time until he can get neutered, and recover which would be 1 week. Won't you give Bumble a chance at a great life with a home of his own? From Foster: -no barking -no digging -no resource guarding -no growling or aggression -loves other dogs and people, he even tolerates bad behaving dogs -gentle mount when taking treats -healthy coat and likes being brushed -can hike and play (in bursts) but also likes to chill and sleep -rides well in a car -curious to explore and not afraid of new situations -goes to the door when he wants out (no accidents!) -If you are looking for a guard dog, he is not one -total house dog

Story
Hello there, I`m Sandy, a female Great Pyrenees mix around 8-10 years old. I`ve lived a few years and learned a lot. I`m smart, you see. I`ve mastered the art of house training and I`m quite the expert at leash walks. I`m also sweet, so sweet you`d think I was a sugar cookie. I love to be hugged, head rubs and sleeping, to name a few of my favorite pastimes. My years have taught me patience and kindness, so I promise to be the gentlest companion. I don`t need much, just a warm corner and a loving heart. If you are interested in adopting me, please fill out the application below or contact Jennifer at fireball7705@yahoo.com with any questions. Please fill out the application at https://www.humanesocietyofwilkes.org/adopt/application/jenm

Story
Meet Ben, who will turned two in June. Ben came to us extremely emaciated, in pretty bad shape weighing only 39 lbs. ( he is now 85 lbs.) . His human had tried and tried to get him to gain weight, get healthy but with no success. We got him, had several tests run, noticed how fast he ate his food. We put him on a special ID diet, started using slow feeder bowls, and fed him small meals several times a day. After many many tests, much medication, and special food, he started to gain weight. He has now gotten adjusted to regular food. He may always need a bowl to slow down his eating but he looks great and is a happy boy. Ben is good with other dogs. He is a little dominant but does well with both male and female dogs. He did have a quick encounter with a cat, but not long enough to say 100 percent, but he did not do anything but sniff the kitty. We would recommend no small kids only because of Ben's size and we are still working on getting him not to jump up and hug you. While it looks sweet, he could knock someone down accidentally. If you think Ben may be your boy, please read on and fill out the on line application. RECOMMENDATIONS & PROCEDURES Please note, the following are recommendations for puppies and different breeds of dogs. We will evaluate each application on an individual basis to see what is best for the dog/puppy and the potential adopter. Puppies are very fragile and not toys. We recommend children be at least six years old to be considered to adopt a puppy. Small breed dogs ( such as chihuahuas, yorkies, shih tzus , etc) we recommend children be at least eight years old. Herding, working breeds we recommend children to be at least 12 years old. Again these are recommendations. Adoption Procedures: We will travel up to two hours ( one way) to do physical home visits and we do not do virtual home visits. ( we are in Cleveland County NC) Most of our dogs come from bad situations and we want to know where their forever home is going to be. While we do not require fencing on all dogs, certain dogs that need a fenced in yard, will not be adopted unless potential adopter has one. We also adopt some dogs to people who live in apartments ( as long as the landlord approves) but not all dogs. We do not adopt to anyone under 21 years of age. We also do not feel college students are the best fit for most of our dogs. Most of our dogs again, come from bad situations and need lots of attention. Most college students have financial responsibilities and we feel need to be focused on school. Our goal is to match the dog with a family that fits the dog’s needs. We are solely focused on what is best for each dog in our rescue. These dogs have had enough moving around, dumped out like trash, and we want to ensure they find their forever home. We do require you sign a contract and if at any time you cannot continue to provide for the dog, the dog comes back to the rescue. Your first step to adoption is filling our our on line application. You will then get an automated email stating we got your application Next our adoption coordinator will be in touch either by phone or email If your references check out, a home visit will be scheduled. After the home visit is done, a meet and greet with the dog you are interested in and/or any other available dogs we have will be scheduled If the dog and you are a match, contract will be signed and you may take your new family member home.
