Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) NEEDS FOSTER HOMES IN PA. Your help is needed to save dogs' lives. National Pyr (NGPR) rescues Pyrs and Pyr mixes from kill shelters where large breed dogs last only a few days. After dogs are pulled from shelters, they are assessed, vetted, spayed or neutered and quarantined for two weeks or more before going to a foster home. There are not enough foster homes in the places the dogs come from so dogs are transported to foster families where they can live in a home environment and interact with kids, cats, people and other dogs. Every dog that goes into a foster home allows us to pull another dog from a shelter. Please go to National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) to learn more about the breed. Then if you are interested, please read about fostering, then fill out our volunteer application if you can help and we will get back to you shortly. We thank you and our beloved Pyrs thank you too. If you can't foster or adopt at this time, please consider helping our Neediest Cases or making a tax-exempt donation by visiting our Donate page.  February 12, 2025, 11:32 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. This adorable guy is Luke! Luke had a rough start, coming to rescue from a hoarding situation, and is now looking for the good life in a furever home! He would love a family that will give him his space to roam in a securely fenced in yard (he will require a 6 ft fence). Luke can be nervous in new situations but is very sweet once he warms up and gets familiar. He has a mild temperament and is happiest relaxing in the yard, calmly keeping watch over his humans. Luke is looking for a family that has experience with the breed and understands how to give a sometimes anxious Pyr their space - he will be the Pyrfect companion for these type of humans. With a little patience and a lot of love, Luke will be a wonderful addition - apply for this adorable guy today! NGPR Pooch Profile Name: Luke in PA Age: 8 yrs old as of February 2025 Color: white Dew Claws: double Estimated Adult Weight: 85 lbs Current Location: NGPR approved boarding in Gallitzin, PA Medical: Neutered, dewormed, negative for heartworm, up-to-date on vaccinations and currently on flea, tick and heartworm preventative. This dog travels with a Interstate Health Certificate required by the USDA confirming that all the above criteria have been met. Housebroken: yes Can be Placed With: Selective w/other dogs, no kids, no cats Fencing: Secure VISIBLE fencing is required; invisible fencing WILL NOT contain this breed. Fees: Adoption fees are determined on a sliding scale depending on age, location and transport. Transport costs are included in the adoption fee. Fees for dogs adopted locally start at $400 and can range up to $700 for puppies under six months. Puppies placed on spay/neuter contracts receive $100 back when the dog is spayed or neutered. Fees for senior dogs (7 or older) and foster dogs will be adjusted accordingly. More Information: Questions? The fastest way to learn more about a dog is to fill out our Adoption Application. If you call or e-mail you are reducing your chances of adopting this animal as we direct our time and energy to first serving those who apply. NYS Registered Non-Profit Rescue # RR102. National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) has been rescuing and adopting out Great Pyrenees since 2006. Our relationship doesn’t end with adoption, as we continue to support adopters throughout the lifetime of their dog. Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority. February 6, 2025, 6:59 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Jonas has only one wish - he is hoping for a furever home where he can be a good companion to the right person who is a patient and experienced owner. Jonas has a long, soft, fluffy coat and is a smart boy who knows his basic cues, though he would love it if his furever family would dedicate time to add more skills into his toolbox so he can show off how exceptional he can be. Just like many of our pyr rescues, Jonas can be a tad wary when encountering strangers, but if you are patient and give him the time and space he needs, he will warm up to you in no time. Once he determines that you are trustworthy, he transforms into a loving companion where he may claim your lap as his own! Jonas will thrive in a less active home without children and in a relatively quiet neighborhood, where his people have the time and patience to continue his training. This big boy has all the 'pawtential' to become your most loyal companion, will you open your heart to him? Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Mary is best described as a perfectly proportioned petite Pyrenees doll (a "Pocket Pyr"). She may be a mix, but looking at her all you see is this mini Pyrenees with all the big dog characteristics including the “Pyr-Paw,” white eyelashes, and a beautiful fan tail (she's not expected to get much bigger than her current weight, just 40 lbs). Mary enjoys being active and will need an adopter who can accommodate her love of playing, running and zoomies! She is a very smart girl and her foster Mom thinks her personality and playfulness could allow her to thrive learning an agility obstacle course, as Mary needs to be challenged, and is a fast learner. She came to rescue with an injury to one of her hind legs, but that hasn’t slowed her down one bit! In addition to playing, Miss Mary is also very happy to snuggle, and will never turn down a belly rub or good ear scratch! Her favorite snacks are strawberry pop tarts, peanut butter and peanut butter flavored dog biscuits. Mary does have guarding issues with food and treats, but that’s simply resolved with separate feedings and controlled treat rewards. She gets along with other dogs and cats, but we are recommending older, respectful kids only who can understand her resource guarding. All in all, Mary will thrive with someone who is patient and is willing to continue working with a few of her quirks (and realizing she’ll be their shadow!) Mary has so much love to give and although this petite girl has had a rough start in life, her heart is truly the size of a big breed dog! NGPR Pooch Profile Name: Mary in NY Age: 3 yrs 11 mos old as of February 2025 Color: White Dew Claws: unknown Estimated Adult Weight: currently 40 lbs, will not get much larger Current Location: NGPR approved foster in Erin, NY Medical: Spayed, dewormed, negative for heartworm, up-to-date on vaccinations and currently on flea, tick and heartworm preventative. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Stunning Freddy is looking for a foster or a furever home. He has a beautiful white coat with black markings, and at just 80 pounds—is what we call a "Pocket Pyr." He’s the perfect size for anyone looking for a smaller male dog. He loves to go exploring in the yard and on walks. This smart boy will sit for a treat...on occasion—isn’t that just like a Pyr? As all good Pyrs do, Freddy will bark, but only at things that need to be barked at! Freddy is a gentleman at grooming time, sitting to be brushed and to have his nails trimmed, although he can show some sensitivity around his ears. Freddy would do best in an area that is not prone to a lot of storms or fireworks. This boy likes to be indoors and prefers to have his person to himself so will need a home where he is the only animal. The ideal foster or furever home for Freddy would be one where he can soak up all the love and attention from his family. He promises to take his Pyr responsibilities seriously, patrol the yard, and keep his home and family safe. Won’t you give Freddy a chance and apply to adopt or foster him and make him your Furever Freddy?  NGPR Pooch Profile Name: Freddy in KY Age: 7 yrs 8 mos old as of February 2025 Color: white with black badger markings Dew Claws: double Estimated Adult Weight: 80 lbs Current Location: NGPR approved boarding in Richmond, KY Medical: Neutered, dewormed, negative for heartworm, up-to-date on vaccinations and currently on flea, tick and heartworm preventative.
