We have more dogs being turned into rescue. We will keep our site update as they come in, are vetted and determined ready to be adopted. If you have never had a Pyr Puppy you need to read this : http://www.nepyresq.org/page/i-want-a-great-pyrenees-puppy-50.html The application process is to go to our website and fill out an adoption application form. http://www.nepyresq.org/page/adoption-process-47.html We do not accept INVISIBLE fencing for the following reasons: 1) Most Pyrs ignore the pain and go through it. 2) This is a guardian breed and this fencing does not keep people or other animals out of your yard. The Pyr could take them as a threat or be attacked. WE do not allow them to be tied out. It makes them aggressive. If you do not have a fenced yard then a fenced area would be acceptable. Most of these dogs are not a dog park breed. They bark a lot and can bother your neighbors.

Story
Rose (aka Rainey) - DOB 10/27/2017 spayed female. She was ours and one of the Iowa 5 dogs we took in back in 2018. She was adopted in 2019. The Owners are not well. She is good with other animals. Extremely shy of new people but no aggression there. She will do best in a home with another dog. Rose will need time to warm up to you. She MUST have a fenced yard. She will take time for you to be able to touch her and to leash her. You must earn her trust. Please go to our website if you are interested in one of our dogs. It explains the process and has an application you can fill out there. . If it goes through you will get an email from nepyresq@gmail.com with the next steps of the process. http://www.nepyresq.org/page/adoption-process-guidelines-48.html

Story
Hi, I’m Marcie, the Great…Pyrenees. At 8-months old, I boast a big personality and a kind heart. All 60 pounds of me will sit in your lap, if you let me. Though I’m hearing impaired, it doesn’t hinder me in any way as I can communicate through Sign Language. All of my other senses are heightened and I’m aware of everything! Vacuum cleaner, beware! Though I had a rough start to life, I’m resilient and independent. Although, I believe your definition of independent might be a little different than mine. I think you humans may call it stubbornness. Whatever the case, I’m working on it. Alongside my resilience and independence, I’m also very clever! As a puppy, I’ve already mastered a few puzzle toys, which I’m sure older dogs would find challenging. This, however, might have something to do with being food motivated as treats are hidden inside the puzzles. I LOVE treats!! Some of my favorites are salmon and chicken jerky, bully sticks and pupsicles from Woof. I think it might be important to mention some of my other personality traits to help you better understand me. I’m a guardian dog, which basically means I protect. So with protection comes some barking. Also, though I love and need exercise, leash walking is not my favorite. I tend to bark and get a little anxious when I encounter cars, other dogs on a leash and baby strollers. Again, it might have something to do with wanting to protect and/or possibly my deafness. With all that said, I do have a few, small requests, if it’s not too much to ask. For starters, I need patience and understanding as I’m a dog with special needs. A rural setting with a large, fenced in property would be best for me so I can run freely and play hard as I love to chase balls and play with my flirt pole. A playmate is a definite possibility, as long as he or she is a younger dog. I like children, but older children would be better as I’m already a strong and sturdy girl. Lastly, I would greatly benefit from further training to help with leash walking and basic commands due to my breed and my deafness. I’m Marcie, the Great….Pyrenees. I will dedicate my life to protecting and loving on you. I only need a chance. Please contact Shelly - shellyallard@yahoo.com for placement in your home

Story
BEAR: A Gentle, Introverted Great Pyrenees Looking for a Quiet, Loving Home** Bear is a 3-year-old Great Pyrenees with a heart as big as his paws! He may take a little time to warm up to new faces, but once he knows you’re a friend, you’ll have a loyal and loving companion for life. While Bear can be a bit spooky with strangers, he’s quick to come around with patience and some tasty treats—though don’t be surprised if it takes him a few minutes to decide he’s ready for pets. Bear thrives in a calm, predictable environment. He’s excellent with other dogs, has great manners at daycare, and even helps keep the peace with dog-reactive friends. True to his Pyr nature, Bear is observant and vocal when something new catches his eye, but he can be called off distractions and will settle down quickly. Bear loves to chase sticks, swim, and play with squeaky toys. He’s also known to lounge on the furniture but is respectful if you ask him to move. He’s a low-maintenance groomer—his family can easily trim his nails, clean his ears, and brush his teeth without issue. He’s even a regular at the groomer, with no fuss. Bear does have some quirks that need understanding. He’s wary of loud noises, especially thunderstorms, and may retreat to a quiet space like the basement or shower. He’s not very food motivated and sometimes needs encouragement to eat, but he’s an all-around gentle giant. Bear has lived with small children and babies without issue, though he’s not overly interested in them. He’s not a counter surfer, and while he does chase small animals, he’s always well-behaved around humans of all sizes. Bear needs a home with a fenced yard where he can safely explore, or on a tie-out like he’s used to. Bear would love to find a family who understands his need for a little extra time to feel comfortable and secure. He’d do great in a quieter home, ideally with a friendly dog to help him come out of his shell. Once you’ve earned his trust, Bear will be your most devoted and gentle friend. Bear is up to date on his shots. He just needs a well visit with OUR vet and microchipping. WE chip all our dogs to the rescue first and add the adopter second.
