Stella turns ONE on December 6 and my dream is that she has a furever family by then! Stella was born from working LGDs and spent the first 6 months of her life in a barn with zero training or supervision. The farmer decided she was a "failed LGD" and was going to put her down so I took her. She was the most affectionate, calm, beautiful pup I'd ever seen despite obviously carrying trauma from her upbringing (lack thereof). She had never been inside before but she learned quickly and is 98% house trained. She sleeps in a kennel but doesn't go in during the day (She'll lay in it but hates when you close the door and will panic piddle). We're also struggling with the concept of "holding it." We take her out every 3-4 hours just to be safe. I was sorely tempted to keep her, but I really think she wants a big, fenced in yard to spend more time outdoors and I think she'd really love having kids to watch and play with.

Grits and determination!! That is the saying, right? To get anywhere you must have grits and determination?? Grits are good for you, ask any Southern mama :) You guessed it, my name is Grits and I have a LOT of determination! I came from the pound with HORRIFIC injuries related to a multiple dog attack :( And boy I was in pain and had horrible infections and was so so skinny and just sad... But the rescue peeps fixed me up! It took several weeks of LOVE, good nutrition, wound care and "heart repair" to return my zest for life and to see the glimmer of hope in my eyes... Now I am all fixed up, healthy and happy and READY for you!! Don't ever let me be out on the streets again, fighting off other dogs to live. Give me your COUCH, an air conditioner and lots of love and treats and I will be yours FUREVER!!! And speaking of fur, well, you know I am a Great Pyrenees and we SHED great amounts, so you must love me more than my hair!!! If you're looking for a friend that can turn any situation into a comedy sketch, I'm your dogs. Adopt me, and let's create our own sitcom! Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2032005##
