Story
History: Gru is a handsome boy who is our largest dog in rescue at this time. He is so kind and sweet and was released by a commercial breeding program. He hopes to find his forever home soon! A Note from the Foster: My name is Gru, and I love love. Like, really love. My favorite thing is scratches, I could get them all day long. But, that might interfere with my nap schedule…I’ll have to think more about that. When my foster parents don’t pet me enough, I lean on them and direct their hands with my gentle mouth (it’s a Dane thing). Speaking of naps, I sleep many hours each day and love my kennel. I prefer to eat and play with other dogs (it’s a social Dane thing). I’m learning to play with toys, especially cozy couch blankets and towels to make my kennel feel more at home (it’s a comfort Dane thing). My foster mom tells me that my heart, ears, lips, and brain are the same size…who am I kidding? She thinks my brain is the smallest part of me but she doesn’t realize that I’m just being me (it’s a Dane thing). Time to be serious. I am the silliest dog you may meet, taught my foster dad a game where he acts like a dog, and prefer to do things on my time. I am learning to go potty outside and walk on a leash. I’m still adjusting to a life where I have freedom and fun, and

Story
History: Poe FKA Blanc was recently returned to rescue when she was no longer a fit for her adopted home. She is in need of a cherry eye surgery that is scheduled for December. She has not been spayed yet due to holding until she is 2 years old and full grown. Her adopter will sign a spay contract and will need to commit to the potential ongoing care she as a Great Dane will require. She hopes to find her forever home soon! A Note from the Foster: Poe is a fun-loving, energetic, and incredibly cuddly gal who doesn’t let a little cherry eye dull her sparkle. She adores toys of all kinds—rope, stuffies, sticks, bones are all her jam! She also loves neighborhood walks and soaking up every bit of affection she can get. Poe is potty-trained with regular outdoor breaks and a bit of encouragement to “go potty.” She’s also crate-trained and settles down nicely after a few moments of barking. While Poe is a sweetheart with people and other dogs, she’s developing a prey drive toward her current foster’s cat, so a cat-free home would be best. She would thrive in a home with another playful dog or as the center of someone’s world. After playtime, Poe is happiest curling up next to you, gently resting her head in your lap, and snoozing the day away. She’s ready to bring joy, energy, and snuggles to her forever family!

Story
Sprinkles is a beautiful, sweet-natured girl who truly adores her humans. She is affectionate, gentle, and happiest when she’s close to the people she loves. Whether it’s quiet time at home or simply being near her favorite humans, Sprinkles thrives on connection and companionship. Over time, Sprinkles has developed reactivity with other dogs. Because our home has other dogs, this has made it increasingly difficult for her to feel comfortable and successful in our family environment. This decision comes with heavy hearts, as she is deeply loved and has brought so much joy into our lives. Sprinkles would do best as the only dog in the home, where she can soak up all the love and attention she deserves and feel safe, secure, and relaxed. With patient, understanding humans who can provide structure and reassurance, she will be an incredibly loyal and loving companion. Rehoming Sprinkles is not a reflection of her worth. She is a wonderful dog who simply needs a different setting.

Story
Introducing Copper! Affectionate Gentle Playful Initially Shy Personality: Copper is a sweet Dane who may be shy at first, but once he feels safe, his affectionate and silly nature begins to shine. He’s calm, kind, and loves being included in the daily routine. A creature of habit, he thrives in consistency and finds comfort in knowing what to expect. Socialness: Copper gets along well with everyone in his foster home. He’s submissive with other dogs and respectful of their space, often waiting for them to initiate interaction. He hasn’t been around cats, so slow and structured introductions will be needed. He responds well to slow, structured introductions with new people. Due to some resource guarding around toys (which his foster has diligently been working on), older children or those with experience around large dogs would be best. Likes & Dislikes: Loves zoomies and playing with other dogs Enjoys toys, snuggling, and car rides Dislikes raised voices and nail trims Training: Copper is crate trained, housebroken, and does not destroy bedding or toys. He can comfortably be left alone during a typical 8-hour workday. He knows the commands sit, come, down, shake, and leave it. He is leash trained, incredibly smart, eager to please, and responds very well to positive reinforcement. Health: Copper is in great health with no current concerns. He does seem to have a beef sensitivity, so he’s currently on chicken-based food and treats with success. Forever Home Wishlist: A fenced yard is preferred An apartment or apartment-style setting could be fine, as he's quiet and well-mannered A family committed to continuing his progress with toy/food guarding Older children or an adult-only home Another dog companion would be a plus, especially one who matches his gentle energy If you think Copper will be a great addition to your family, please reach out to us by following one of the options below. 1. If you have already completed the adoption or foster application process and are an approved adopter with UMGDR, please contact Copper’s Placement Coordinator at callie@thegreatdanerescue.com to learn more about him. 2. If you are not yet an approved adopter through UMGDR, you must complete our application process before you can be considered to adopt a dog through our rescue. Story
Introducing Maxwell! Energetic Playful Affectionate Extraordinary Hi there! My name is Maxwell, and I’m a fun-loving, adventurous pup with a heart as big as my playful spirit. Life may look and sound a little different for me because of my vision and hearing impairments, but that doesn’t stop me from embracing every moment with curiosity and joy. I’m on the lookout for a special family who will love and support me just as I am—and I promise to give you all my love in return! When it comes to playtime, I’m all in! My favorite activities include: Chasing after balls and tugging on ropes. Chewing on deer antlers (yum!). Exploring the world on walks and taking in all the new smells. Zooming around the backyard with my famous burst of energy—it’s my happy dance! I absolutely adore being close to my people. Whether we’re playing together or just enjoying some quiet time, I thrive on companionship and affection. Being left alone isn’t my favorite, and I might bark to let you know I miss you, so I’d love a home where someone is around most of the time to keep me company. Navigating the world with limited sight and hearing can be a little tricky, but I’ve got it down! Once I’m familiar with my surroundings, I get around just fine. I may see light, dark, and motion, and I can hear some high-pitched noises, but I mostly rely on my other senses—and the love and guidance of my humans—to help me feel safe and confident. Here’s what I’d love in my forever home: A calm, patient family who understands my unique needs. A physical fence to keep me safe as I explore and play. Preferably a midsize to large yard so I have enough room for zoomies! A calm, submissive doggy sibling who can be my buddy and help me feel more secure. If there are kids, I’d do best with older ones (12+) who have a gentle and calm demeanor. An experienced owner, especially someone familiar with caring for dogs with hearing or vision impairments, would be a huge plus! A family who is home more often than not. A work-from-home position would be awesome! Otherwise, I would prefer if my family isn't gone for more than 6 hours at a time. I’ve had a bit of a rough start in life, bouncing between homes before finding my way to foster care. Now, I’m ready for the stability and love of a forever family who will cherish me for the amazing dog that I am. I may need a little extra understanding, but I promise the love and joy I’ll bring to your life will make it all worthwhile. Fun fact about me: My “zoomies” are a pure expression of my happiness, and they’ll never fail to bring a smile to your face. I’m a resilient, loving boy who’s ready to be your loyal companion. Are you the one I’ve been waiting for? Maxwell is ready to embark on a new journey, and he'd love to share it with you. Please complete one of the following steps to make Maxwell a part of your family. 1. If you have already completed the application process and are an approved adopter with UMGDR, please contact Maxwell’s Placement Coordinator at callie@thegreatdanerescue.com to learn more about him. 2. If you are not yet an approved adopter through UMGDR, you must complete our application process before you can be considered to adopt a dog through our rescue. Please visit https://www.thegreatdanerescue.com/adoption-application to complete an application and submit your $25 application fee to begin the process. Story
History: 🧡 From Texas to Midwest 🤠—- A group of deserving dogs was recently welcomed as part of our Texas Transport Program! A program launched to make an impactful difference for our partner shelters in Texas facing the overpopulation of animals with limited resources and low adoption rates. We are excited to help these southern gems find loving forever homes to call their own! A Note from the Foster: Angie is a great girl who is doing well settling into foster care! She is very friendly, LOVES other dogs, and seems to be unbothered/unphased by cats. She does good with children as well and all people. She is potty trained as long as she goes out routinely. She is good in the crate and sleeps soundly at night in there. She is a funny, friendly, and beautiful girl who hopes to find her forever home soon!

Story
History and A Note from the Foster: Hey there, future family! My name’s Waddles, but my foster family calls me “Dora” because, well… I’m an explorer! Every yard, trail, and living room corner deserves a proper sniff inspection if you ask me. I’m an 8-month-old Anatolian Shepherd mix, and if you’re looking for brains and beauty, look no further. I’m crate-trained, potty-trained, and I walk like an absolute pro on a leash (seriously, my foster mom says I’m the best walker she’s ever had!). I currently live in western WI with a really cool 9-year-old human, my foster mom and dad, and a cat named Cheeto. I think Cheeto’s awesome — I tried to play with him, but he didn’t seem into it. I may have whimpered about it, but I got over it and went back to stealing his toys instead. I’m loyal, independent, and a bit of a goofball. My favorite toy is a stuffed moose that I proudly parade around like a trophy (no pictures, though — I’m camera shy!). I love cuddling once I get to know you, and belly rubs? Oh yes, please! I do best with school-aged kids or older, only because I’m a big girl still learning about sharing my snacks and toys. I had a tiny bit of resource guarding at first, but with a little training (and love), I got the hang of it fast. I’d love a home with: Humans who like adventure (walks! exploring! sniffing everything!) A dog sibling, but only if they're friendly and not too bossy Maybe even a cat friend — as long as they don’t mind a curious pup A cozy bed for when I’m ready to curl up and snooze after a big day Honestly, I’m just looking for a family who’ll love me as much as I’ll love them. I’m loyal, silly, smart, and sweet — basically the full package. So what do you say?
