Story
Sweet Winnie is a year and a half and weighs in at 75 lbs. She does have some Great Dane in her bloodline. She is very loving and affectionate, loves to bring her toys to you. She would be great with dogs her size as she is a little too much for smaller dogs. She also does well with the kitties. She is looking for a fun loving forever home to go on adventures with her. If you would like to meet this wonderful girl, please continue to read and fill out our on line application. https://cliffordsarmyrescue.com/1423-2/ RECOMMENDATIONS & PROCEDURES Please note, the following are recommendations for puppies and different breeds of dogs. We will evaluate each application on an individual basis to see what is best for the dog/puppy and the potential adopter. Puppies are very fragile and not toys. We recommend children be at least six years old to be considered to adopt a puppy. Small breed dogs ( such as chihuahuas, yorkies, shih tzus , etc) we recommend children be at least eight years old. Herding, working breeds we recommend children to be at least 12 years old. Again these are recommendations. Adoption Procedures: We will travel up to two hours ( one way) to do physical home visits and we do not do virtual home visits. Most of our dogs come from bad situations and we want to know where their forever home is going to be. While we do not require fencing on all dogs, certain dogs that need a fenced in yard, will not be adopted unless potential adopter has one. We also adopt some dogs to people who live in apartments ( as long as the landlord approves) but not all dogs. We do not adopt to anyone under 21 years of age. We also do not feel college students are the best fit for most of our dogs. Most of our dogs again, come from bad situations and need lots of attention. Most college students have financial responsibilities and we feel need to be focused on school. Our goal is to match the dog with a family that fits the dog’s needs. We are solely focused on what is best for each dog in our rescue. These dogs have had enough moving around, dumped out like trash, and we want to ensure they find their forever home. We do require you sign a contract and if at any time you cannot continue to provide for the dog, the dog comes back to the rescue. Your first step to adoption is filling our our on line application. You will then get an automated email stating we got your application Next our adoption coordinator will be in touch either by phone or email If your references check out, a home visit will be scheduled. After the home visit is done, a meet and greet with the dog you are interested in and/or any other available dogs we have will be scheduled If the dog and you are a match, contract will be signed and you may take your new family member home. Story
Big heart, big personality, big goof! Does your couch have room for a lap dog who’s accidentally enormous? Bruno will happily oblige. He’s crate and house trained. Bruno is about two years old and weighs 79 pounds. We think he is a Great Dane mix. Bruno recently learned sit and come like a pro. He has a tail that’s permanently set to WAG. He is still polishing his leash manners, but is eager and food-motivated. Did we mention he LOVES people, follows his human like a tiny shadow, and gets along great with kids and other dogs? We don’t know how he is with cats as he has not been cat tested. Bruno’s perfect for someone with a fenced yard or someone who’s always up for an adventure!  If you are interested in adopting Bruno, please submit an inquiry directly to Greater Charlotte SPCA by visiting charlottespca.org/adopt. The adoption amount is a suggested donation of $200 to $300 dollars based on the pet's age.   **Because our rescue is composed entirely of volunteers, local applications will take precedence. We will accept out of town applications, but any family is responsible for coming to Charlotte to complete a meet and greet. All out of town applicants will also have to be willing to drive to Charlotte to pick up the pet as soon as they are approved to adopt. **November 17, 2025, 7:43 am

Story
Meet Maple, a 2 yr old female Dane! Maple came to us when a volunteer working with animal control noticed a beautiful marble-coated Great Dane attached to a chain in the middle of a field. The volunteer approached the owners to talk to them about this pretty girl. They said they received the dog from someone else but they did not want to keep her, and they would be interested in surrendering her. Maple was so skinny when she came into the rescue. Once Maple arrived at her foster family's house the evaluation began. Here is what we know about this sweet puppy:  Let’s start with what she needs work on and get it out of the way. Maple had almost zero manners. When she arrived she already knew how to sit for her food. Since then, her foster family has been working on the basics. She is so much a puppy still but the vet's best guess is that she is around two. When she moves, she moves fast and frantically. For example, the foster family allows dogs on their couch. The first time Maple was invited onto the couch she jumped up like lightning, scrambled to be as close to them as she could while smashing herself as low as she could get. When this happens, it can be a bit dramatic and you have to be ready for it to keep her from crawling all over you. Luckily for her, the foster family expects snuggles!! She is also frantic when she is let out of her kennel, and when it's time for food, and when she tries to follow you out the door when you leave the house. Normally, with a stern verbal correcting she will stop in her tracks. She doesn't want to disappoint you. She does need leash training because she is a strong puller on the leash. The foster family introduced her to the Haltie and it is a game changer for the way she walks on a leash. All of this sounds like a lot, and I suppose it is, until you look at why she is acting this way: - No training, - Little to no access to people (chained in the yard), - no snuggles, - fear of being left behind, - desperately wants to make people happy but doesn't know what is expected of her.  Now, the good: This pup has the sweetest temperament ever. She is a true wanna-crawl-in-your-pocket kinda Dane. All she wants is your attention and to make you happy. She is easily trained with food and praise, and will follow you around the house no matter where you go. She is happiest on the couch beside you snuggling, or walking to the bathroom with you, or to the kitchen, or the laundry room. She doesn't care!! She wants to be where you are. Period. Are you looking for a dog that likes to be outside? One you can put in the back yard and let them enjoy the great outdoors? Well Maple is NOT that dog!! She will run to the yard, do what she needs to do and then run back to the door to go inside. This will definitely get better as she learns she isn’t going to be left outside anymore. But if you are out there with her, it changes everything. She is super sweet and affectionate. She is not food aggressive, but she does like whatever toy the other dogs are playing with. And she doesn't like other dogs in her face until she gets to know them. The foster family has kennel trained her and she will walk into the kennel on command (a payment in the form of a treat is required). At night the fosters leave one of their dogs in the living room with her and she sleeps quietly through the night. She also rides awesome in the car. So in closing, if you want a dog that is a literal blank slate and is looking for you to communicate with her and tell her what you want, Maple may be the one for you. The bathroom, kitchen, laundry room, bedroom, and back-door escorts are included, along with the hyper-drive dive-bombing onto the couch or human bed, and following you so closely that you can feel her wet nose on your calf muscles, at no extra charge!! So, check out Maple and see what making her a part of your family can do. P.S. Look at those Jowls!!!! Maple is being fostered in Zebulon NC. Story
Meet Juniper — Your Gentle, Curious Companion! Sweet, soulful Juniper is a beautiful mix of curiosity and heart. Rescued from a shelter in September, this lovely girl (estimated to be around 2–4 years old) has blossomed in her foster home and is ready to find her forever family. Juniper is still learning that the world is a safe place, so she’ll need a patient, loving owner who can help her continue to build her confidence. Once she warms up, she’s incredibly affectionate — a total snuggle bug who adores her humans. She’s happiest with another friendly dog by her side to show her the ropes and loves wrestling and cuddling with her foster siblings. Juniper has been great around kids of all ages, though she’d thrive best in a quieter home without lots of constant noise or activity. Her perfect match? An active family that’s home often or loves bringing their pup along for adventures. She’s learning that food and love are always there for her — and she’ll reward you with endless loyalty, warmth, and tail wags. Juniper is ready to meet the patient, kindhearted family who will help her bloom into the confident, joyful dog she’s meant to be. Could that be you? Juniper is being fostered in Chapel Hill NC. Story
Hi!  My name is Archer but my foster mom calls me Archie.  I'm a smart boy and answer to both names.   I was born on November 19, 2018 which means I'll be 7years old soon.   I act very young for my age and love to go for short walks (I walk very nicely on a leash) and especially love car rides.  I play very enthusiastically with my foster sister who is only 2 years old.  There are 3 cats in the house but I ignore them.  I have been to PetSmart and Lowes and have done really well.  I'm still a little hesitant of big men and of little kids ( kids 12 yrs and up would be best) but we are working on that!  When they are around I like to hide behind mom!  I'm a very smart boy and know all my basic commands but don't really like the STAY one.  I'm potty trained and trustworthy in the house but would prefer being with you to being left behind.  I had some skin issues, ear infections and eye infections when I arrived but those are all clear now. I am a super sweet boy who is looking for a soft place to land...a FOREVER home of my own!  Please consider this sweetest older boy.  Archer is being fostered in Jacksonville NC.  If interested in adopting please email us at info@greatdanefriends.com for an application. *****Great Dane Friends of Ruff Love covers NC and surrounding states for adoptions. Good with dogs,
Story
Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home.  Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion. A note to those looking at CPR.  We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone.  Our job is to find those someone's.  Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog.  They come to us because they want to give a dog a home.  We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture.  While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face.  Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home.  We want to create furever families.  Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today.  We'll update as more information is known.  Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days?  If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application.  You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side.  You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.  Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes?  Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email.  We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team   Date into Rescue: 12/11/2019 born into rescues, returned 04/25/25 when his owner passed away Reason for being in rescue: Buddy (AKASlick) was born into our rescue when his mom and dad were lovingly surrendered by their owners. He was returned nearly six years later when his human passed away. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet, SC Special Needs? Buddy is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. He arrived back in rescue with a severe bacterial infection deep in his ear. This has been treated. Full medical records will be provided to his new family. Weight:  90 lbs Height: 30 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $299 Fence needed? Buddy is a big boy but he's also a couch potato.  He would be just as happy wiht leash walks (he loves his leash) and as long as your space is big enough to accommodate his majestic size, he will be happy.  Buddy's big need is for you.   What Kind of Home Would Be Best for Me? Buddy is a big dog who lives life on his terms. He’s used to being by his human’s side, so he’ll gladly go wherever you go — whether it’s a hike in the woods, a walk on the beach, or a trip to the grocery store. He rides well in the car and enjoys jamming out to Aerosmith and Dokken (yes, he has great taste in music!). And yes, he’s always down for a pup cup stop!  However, don't leave him alone and walk away.  He wants to go in everywhere with you.   True to the Great Dane nature, Buddy isn't an overly active dog. He needs regular, consistent walks but isn't a marathon or sprint sort of boy.  He needs a good place to do his business, meander some and smell the roses and then he wants to be right back with you.   Buddy has always been an only dog.  He has acclimated well into his foster home with multiple dogs of all sizes but he longs for a human all his own.  Sometimes, he goes and sits in his bed just to get some peace and quiet.  Other times, he's right in the middle of everything.   Buddy "talks."  He is very vocal but not in a big, barky dog kind of way but in a gentle, here is what I am thinking manner.  He will arrggww and ohhhhwoo if he likes what your doing (see below info on his favorite place to be scratched.)  He will grumble and mumble under his breath if he does not like what you are doing.  99 percent of what he does not like is having his ears messed with.  With that big, lovable head, it's the first thing that people go for and I really want to find a leash that says in bright yellow (NOT THE EARS - DON'T TOUCH THE EARS).  Once you know what cues he's sending out, he's so very grateful that you understand him and he does the Dane Lean into you to show his appreciation.  He may not like his head scratched (and that may change if his ears feel better) but he LOVES a good butt scratch.  Right there at the base of the tail, that's his favorite sweet spot!   We do not think Buddy would do well with kids.  He has never been around kids.  His owner was already an empty nester when she adopted Buddy as her new baby when he was just a baby so kids were never around him.  Buddy is an adult's dog.  He longs for that one-on-one relationship he had with his previous owner.  Buddy is loyal and looking for a best friend. What is my personality like? Meet Buddy — a big boy looking for a second chance at a loving home. Buddy was originally adopted from us nearly six years ago, but he was returned after the heartbreaking loss of his beloved human. Buddy may have been born here but he went to a cozy home when he was just a baby so the farm is not familiar. He’s used to being with his person all the time — sharing the couch, sleeping in the bed, and being a constant companion. He has a heart as loyal and big as his 90 pound body. His previous owner loved him dearly, with her family members describing Buddy as a “big old baby” who loves to give kisses and cuddles. Sadly, they were unable to keep him when his human passed, but they knew the kindest thing to do was return him to us so he could find a new loving home. Buddy hopes to hit the jackpot again — to find another human who will love and spoil him just like his first did. Buddy is smart! He’s completed training and proudly comes with a "degree" from his trainer. He knows commands like sit, stay, and shake (with either paw!). He’s eager to please and loves learning new tricks, especially if treats are involved. He was a little overweight — the result of being loved a little more than exercised — but after a few months here at the farm he's down to a svelte 90 lbs and that looks good on hime.  His white muzzle may make him look older, but he’s not even six yet and still full of youthful energy. How do I act when I first meet new people? Buddy loves everyone he meets. He’s a big cuddle bug who will happily snuggle up on the couch or in bed with you, just like he did with his first human. Other tips and tidbits: Buddy's birthday is 12/11/2019. Special note - one of the most heart breaking things about Dane's and standard poodles is the condition known as gastric torsion and torsion (bloat).  Buddy bloated in November of 2025 and very luckily, a young caregiver recognized the signs and alerted the staff so we could get Buddy to a surgeon to save his life.  Buddy survived and now his stomach is "tacked" so he can never, very have a flipped stomach again.   House trained? Buddy is well house trained.  Once he gets on a good schedule, you don't have to worry about accidents in the house.  He is also crate trained although since going home with our director after bloat surgery, he has decided couches and dog beds are better than crates.  Always remember that a dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Please note - we do not ship dogs.  If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.  Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.   To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home.   You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc.  Others here may be a better fit for you.  It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description.  Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a  dog not in our listings yet.  We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Thank you for considering CPR. November 25, 2025, 8:58 pm
