If you see a pet here, they are still available for adoption and you should apply through our adoption application on our website at  https://www.arf-il.org/adopt/application/   Dawn is a 10 month old female Dane/Mastiff who weighs in at 92 pounds.  This dog's adoption fee is $500.  If you are still interested, please read more below. COMING SOON!!!  You can meet me with an approved application, and take me home after I am spayed on December 17th. Hi, I’m Dawn. Let me tell you a little about me. The first part of my life wasn’t great. My sister and I were kept outside all the time, and we didn’t get enough food and water. Then the police came and took us to a shelter.  The shelter told ARF I only weighed 21 pounds when I was 5 months old. The shelter fed me and kept me safe until my foster family took me to their house. I went to the vet and I weigh 92 pounds now! And I don’t think I’m done ‘cuz I’m only 10 months old. I’m super soft and cuddly. I really enjoy having a yard to run around in and I’m playful. You might want to watch my videos. I haven’t had much time to learn manners, so I will need to take obedience classes. I also am afraid to get in the SUV at my foster’s house, but once I’m in I lie down and ride quietly. I am house-trained and crate trained, and that makes my foster family very happy. I really like other dogs, and I play well with them even though I’m a bit bigger than the labradoodle I live with now. I am still learning not to jump on people. I probably shouldn’t be in a family with small children, because I could hurt them accidentally. If you want to meet me, please fill out an application. I will be spayed on December 17th and can go to my new home after that. I’m really a sweet girl and am excited to meet you. Dawn is microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations, housebroken, and will be spayed prior to adoption.  This dog's family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing.  A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you are interested in adopting this dog, fill out an Online Application today!  Once your application has been approved, an ARF volunteer will contact you to arrange a meeting.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.   Thank you for considering a rescue pet from A.R.F.-Animal Rescue Foundation! You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thanks for your interest in a pet from A.R.F.! If you see a pet here, they are still available for adoption and you should apply through our adoption application on our website at  https://www.arf-il.org/adopt/application/   Milhouse is a 17 month old male Great Dane who weighs in at 135 pounds.  This dog's adoption fee is $500.  If you are still interested, please read more below. Milhouse's dad recently moved back home to his country in Eastern Europe and left him behind. Milhouse was just a bit to much dog for his human grandmom to handle and she reached out for ARF to assist in finding him a new home.  Milhouse is a large dog even by Great Dane standards.  He is currently 135 pounds, very tall, and could handle gaining another 10 or so pounds.  He does have that loud ferocious bark that all Great Danes have but that is all it is—just a bark.  His life to date has involved being crated for most of the day and all night.  He lived in, was fed, and watered in his crate.  Unless his human “dad” was home and awake, Milhouse was crated.  And since “dad” left to go back to his country, Milhouse has been crated all the time.  He can act reactively to people close to the crate to the extent that his foster mom thinks that if he were to bark—the top of the crate was banged on scaring him or even worse.  He hasn't really needed to be crated at all in his foster home (you can see the gate in the photos—he could jump it but he hasn’t tried to). His foster mom took the crate down after the first day.  He is so much happier without the crate.  The effect on his personality was immediate— he was so much happier, less worried and more relaxed/playful right away.  He enjoys access to run and play in his foster mom’s yard, walks well on a leash, and is well behaved in the house with a fabulously sweet, playful, and goofy  personality.   He doesn’t jump on the furniture -though his foster mom is sure he could be coerced to do so by his forever family. Milhouse would prefer to be the only dog in the house.  Even though he was housed for the first 17 months of his life crated next to another Great Dane the owner purchased, he doesn’t do well with other dogs—especially large/medium on up in size. He was curious about his foster moms small breed dog. But since that pup is only 6 pounds, his foster mom kept their interactions to minimum. He can be suspicious of new people but if the new people are handed a couple treats to give out to him, in the matter of 15-30 minutes, he would be their best friend for life.  And the more he has settled into his foster home, he accepts new people faster and faster. In spite of a not ideal h ome to start life in, Milhouse is a sweet and loving dog that would love a fenced yard, and a baby-gated area in the kitchen or mudroom rather than a crate until he is able to fully settle in to his new home's schedule and routine. Milhouse does seem housebroken when following the every 3+ hour schedule at his foster home for time to potty in the fenced in back yard. Milhouse is microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations, and neutered. FAST FACTS:*2 Years Old - 120 Pound*Very Loyal, Affectionate, Smart*Low/Medium Energy*Kid Friendly*Dog Friendly - Would Love a Doggie Companion*Potty and Crate Trained*Training Required*Fenced Yard PreferredBIO:Hi there! My name is Olivea and I am an aspiring lap dog in a veeeeeery large body! But my body wasn't always this healthy 120-pound figure you see today; you see, I was unloved and severely malnourished when rescued (I only weighed about 40 pounds, can you even believe it?!) but thanks to my devoted, attentive foster momma I have gained weight and felt love for the first time in my life. Let me tell you how much I enjoy being a beloved family member: I adore people of all ages (including the toddlers I've met) and am very happy to have a doggie pal to keep me company. I would thrive in a family with kids and other dogs - I adore the comfort of family. Even though I am extra large, I make great attempts and trying to fit on your lap for snuggles, I hope you don't mind! And my tail never stops wagging when I have two- and four-legged companions to love! My foster momma jokingly calls my tail its own power source, so I might accidentally knock very tiny children or potted plants over when I am especially happy, but otherwise I have excellent household manners and am never purposefully destructive. I am already potty and crate trained, though my foster momma says she doesn't need to crate me when she leaves the house because I enjoy lounging in my bed or on the couch until she returns (this life of luxury thing is amazing!) My dream home will include a big family and another dog or two, a fenced yard so I can play with my pals and lounge in the sun. I am pretty low energy overall and do not need a lot of exercise, so an occasional walk would be fine but I am not going to be your marathon training buddy haha! I could use some extra work on my leash walking skills; I was likely previously chained up in my prior life so I am extra alert of my surroundings on walks and can be protective of the other dog in my foster home when we are strolling the neighborhood. Fetching Tails requires adopters of young dogs like me to sign us up for training classes, and I am a quick learner (especially when treats are involved - I am very food motivated!) so I think we will have a great time learning new skills together and seeing how great a family pet I can be! Will you give me the luxurious home life and special place in your heart as your beloved companion? Then hurry up and fill out an adoption application today!Love,OliveaIf you'd like to adopt this dog, please get started by filling out a complete application (incomplete submissions cannot be sent.) Please note that while we take time to learn as much as we can about each dog in our care as possible, our bios are written from current observations. Though we do our best to share as much information as possible about each dog we care for, we are unable to make any guarantees on the future health or temperament of your adopted dog. Most dogs in our care come with unknown pre-rescue history, and information pertaining to breed and age are often educated guesses.

Story
Meet Trixie, a beautiful, fun Great Dane who is about 4 years old and weighs about 100 lbs. Trixie is so very sweet and always wants to cuddle. Does she know that she is 100 lbs and not a lap dog? She certainly does not! She loves to be the center of your world. She is super smart and treat motivated her, so training her has been and will be a joy. She is protective of her home but not at all aggressive, and she has become BFFs with the resident dog. Since she doesn't really understand her size, we would like to place her in a home with kids 12 or older only.  We also would like her in a home with a securely fenced in yard.  If you are interested in adopting/meeting this pup , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application  . Your application will be reviewed by our team and if it is a good fit, we will send to the foster family to set up a meet! The adoption fee of $350 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Although we do our best to describe breed, since our pups all come from shelters we can not and will not make any guarantee on breed or size. We can tell you that they are 100% RESCUED! And that is the BEST breed! *please note that we are a foster home based rescue and we do home visits as part of the adoption process - we are unable to adopt to families who live outside of the Chicago and surrounding suburbs. Thank you for your understanding.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 5, 2024, 5:29 pm

Dog's Name: ZuZu Location: Lake In The Hills, Il. Age or Date of birth: 03/10/2024 Gender: Male Breed: Great Dane Mix Weight:  Approximately 85 lbs Gets Along With: Dogs - All Cats - Unknown Kids - Older Kids Training: Leash Trained - walks loose leash Crate Trained - goes in crate/kennel on command Potty trained - Indicates need to potty and doesn't have indoor accidents Car - Rides well in car Hi, I am Zuzu and am new to the rescue. I am currently decompressing and getting used to my foster family. I am a big, playful boy who is sweet as can be but don't know my own size. Because of this I'd be best in a family with older kids. I get along with the other dogs in my foster home and would love to play and wrestle with them all day long if I could!  Zuzu is an energetic boy who loves to play and play! He would love a fenced in yard and another younger playful dog to romp around with! He still needs to learn some manners but he’s come a long way since he arrived at his foster home. He's eager to please, loves people, and would love training classes. Zuzu will do extremely well with a family that can exercise him regularly and give him his energy outlet! ##2226207##
