Story
This tall beauty is Danae. She was brought to us when her owner could no longer care for her. Danae is a very calm, well-tempered, sweet, kind, and gentle girl who is a proud momma to multiple litters. She may surprise you with how big she is, but she is certain to win over your heart with how precious she is. Danae seems to be house trained, walks well on a leash, appears to get along with most dogs, and seems unbothered by cats. If you are looking for a kind-hearted and gracious beauty to bring home and make a new member of your family, come meet Danae! If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Story
Dog Name: Zenyatta Breed: Great Dane Sex: Female Age: 2 Weight: 90lbs, and still gaining Medical Needs: Spay appointment is scheduled for January 22nd at our vet in Milford. She will have her stomach tacked during her spay if our vet deems it necessary. Foster to adopt family must live within 1 hour of Milford to ensure she can be brought back for her appointment. Housebroken: Yes Crate trained: Yes Good in the car: Yes Good on a leash: Yes Energy level: Medium. She gets excited in small bursts, but overall just loves to lay around and soak up the sunlight. Need a fenced in yard: No, leashed walks will be fine. Dog Friendly: Yes, with proper introductions If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No Cat Friendly? Yes Kid Friendly: Yes If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Any age with proper supervision. Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? A more attentive and gentle mama, I have never met. Zenyatta is not just beauty, she is also grace, and poise, and sweetness wrapped up with a big bow. Despite the circumstances she came from, she adores people, and loves to lean against me while she's eating, while we're going up the stairs… Basically, whenever she thinks she can get away with it. Zenyatta has more than fulfilled her role as a mother; now it's time for her to enjoy life as herself and for herself. She deserves to bask in the sunlight for as long as she desires, and cuddle up with her people without reservation. The possibilities are endless - all that's missing is her family. Fosters Location: Townsend, DE Application can be found here: https://www.grrde.org/adoption-application (if you already have an approved application on file email GrassRootsDE@gmail.com and ask the app team to pull your app) ##2236061##

Story
Dog Name: Secretariat Breed: Dane mix Sex: Male Age: 7 weeks Weight: 8lbs Medical Needs: Will need to be neutered once he's old enough. That appointment will be scheduled by Grass Roots Rescue, and must be kept as a condition of adoption (location options will be Georgetown, Dover or Wilmington). Foster to adopt family must live within 1 hour of Delaware to ensure he can be brought back for his appointment, and will also need to be willing to have his stomach tacked with their vet (at their expense) when he’s of age if it is recommended based on his size. Housebroken: No Crate trained: No Good in the car: Yes Good on a leash: Hasn't had one yet Energy level: Puppy! Need a fenced in yard: No, leashed walks will be fine Dog Friendly: Yes If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No Cat Friendly? Yes Kid Friendly: Yes If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Any age with proper supervision Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? The myth, the legend, the champion himself… except in the form of a young puppy who has yet to leave his mark on the world. Secretariat feels up to the task though, even if he's got big hooves - er, I mean paws - to fill. He's the puppy that waits in the pack, watching until it's his turn to be picked up from amongst the ocean of his enthusiastic siblings. He takes in the world with the serenity of an old soul, but when it's dinner time, you best believe he'll be one of the first to the bowls, ready to chow down. Any age with proper supervision Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? Though Barbaro is the smallest male, he does not let that slow him down. He's right there on his brother's heels as the second most likely pup to sneak out past his mama and make a run for the closest person for attention. While not as brave as some of the other pups, he takes things in stride and adapts quickly. Give him a minute to get his bearings, and then be ready, because off he'll go. The first puppy to venture the length of the house and back, tagging along at my heels because he was simply too impatient to wait with the rest of his siblings while I got them their food.
