Story
Miss Bella is all dressed up and ready to meet her potential adopters! Bella is a 4 year old shepherd/husky mix, around 50 lbs. According to the history we received, she is good with kids and cats and has also lived with another dog prior to coming to our shelter. Bella walks well on the leash and enjoys a leisurely lap around the block, stopping to smell the roses. She will need to be altered before going home, but don't let that stop you from putting in that application to meet her.

Story
This cute little guy (Wile E. Coyote) was brought to the HSOV on June 19, 2024 by a Good Samaritan who had found him the previous day on Oakwood Avenue in Marietta Ohio and tried in vain to locate his family. Wile E. Coyote was wearing a collar with a partial tie-out/leash attached but there was neither an id tag nor a dog license tag on his collar .. And he was not microchipped. And in case you are wondering, there were no sightings of The Road Runner in the vicinity where Wile E. Coyote was found (smile). Wile E. Coyote is a 10-month old male German Shepherd mix. He has a black-and-brown/tan short smooth coat with white highlights on his chest, a long tail, and an adorable face with beautiful brown eyes, a tan mask, and large erect ears. This young man appears to have a happy, outgoing personality. These photos were taken on June 21, 2024 when Wile E. was enjoying some fresh air in one of our covered/shaded outdoor kennels. The afternoon temperatures that day reached 95 degrees which was much too hot/humid for photos in our usual grassy area (which is in direct sunshine), so the better part of valor (and common sense) dictated that we'd settle for a less-than-perfect backdrop in order to be able to post pictures of this little sweetheart. Wile E. Coyote weighs 46 lbs and isn't a very large boy when you see him in person. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Wile E. Coyote will be held for three days so that his family will have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Since he was not reclaimed, Wile E. Coyote was neutered on August 5, 2024 and was also given rabies vaccine. Wile E. Coyote was adopted on August 20, 2024. Wile E. Coyote was returned to HSOV on February 11, 2025 since he had become an escape artist who acquired a taste for poultry and could not be trusted with neighborhood chickens. Wile E. is looking for an appropriate new home where he would have no contact with chickens or other feathered friends .. And he needs to learn to return home when his owner/family calls him back.

Story
Cody (fka Handsome Pants) is a majestic 3-year old male German Shepherd who was surrendered by his owner on January 8, 2025 for a heartbreaking reason since Cody's owner was no longer physically able to take care of his beloved dog. Cody's housemate Remy (a 5-year old male German Shepherd) was also surrendered on January 8th. Cody has a black/brown/tan short smooth coat, a long fluffy tail, and a beautiful classic German Shepherd face with dark brown eyes, a large slender muzzle, and extra-large erect ears. Cody may look familiar to many of our HSOV volunteers/supporters since he originally came to our shelter on June 3, 2024 and was posted under the name Handsome Pants. These pictures were taken later that afternoon when HSOV Kennel Tech Emily Beaver assisted him with his photo session. Handsome Pants was neutered on July 2, 2024 and was also given rabies vaccine. He was adopted on July 17, 2024 and given the new name Cody. Cody (aka Handsome Pants) currently weighs 107 lbs and is very strong on a leash. Cody tends to be protective of his food. Cody and Remy are looking for a fabulous home (either together or separately) with an experienced adopter who is familiar with the German Shepherd breed. We know that Cody and Remy are heartbroken and miss their owner who loved them so much. Sadly, we've learned that their owner has passed away recently. We know that his heart was broken having to say goodbye to his dogs and making the difficult decision to surrender them. We hope that both Cody and Remy will find a home(s) with someone who loved them as much as he did.

Remy currently weighs 120 lbs and is very strong on a leash. We don't know yet how Remy feels about cats or children. Remy got along well with Cody when they shared their home from the past six months. Story
Kaiser is a sweet 6-year old male German Shepherd who was brought to the HSOV on January 14, 2025 by the Washington County Ohio Dog Warden who had picked him up on Highland Ridge Road in the Lowell Ohio area. Kaiser was not wearing a collar, and he was not microchipped. This good-looking guy has a tan short smooth coat, a long tail, and a beautiful Shepherd face with soulful dark brown eyes, black shading on his slender muzzle, and large erect ears. Kaiser has a super friendly disposition and begins to wag his tail in anticipation of attention the moment you make eye contact with him. When Kaiser entered our shelter, his hair/coat was very sparse and our HSOV Manager quickly contacted one of our wonderful local veterinarians to schedule a medical appointment for him. Kaiser was diagnosed with demodectic (non-contagious) mange in addition to ear infections, and he is currently on medications to treat those infections. Kaiser weighs 89 lbs and walked gently on a leash. He had already been neutered when he was picked up by the Dog Warden. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Kaiser will be held for three days so that his family will have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Surely someone has loved Kaiser and is missing this big boy.
