Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Phoenix is a 9 year old German Shepherd mix who lived his whole life in one home before being sadly surrendered due to a change in family circumstances he had trouble coping with. He's an affectionate, intelligent, playful boy who attaches quickly and loves loves loves his person. His previous owner described him as her shadow and she was not wrong! He also enjoys the company of other medium and large sized dogs, but generally likes to be the boss of the relationship. He has not been tested with small dogs. While he has never lived with cats before, he has been pretty accepting of the dog savvy cat in his current foster home. He may chase cats that run or otherwise react to him though. Phoenix is very food motivated, knows several commands, and walks well on a leash. He is also already housebroken and making big strides in crate training after only a few days in his foster home. Per his previous owner, Phoenix is reactive to children playing and would do best in a quiet, breed experienced, adults only home. He has also been diagnosed with kidney disease and is on daily medication and special food to help keep him at his best. Fortunately, being the snack lover he is, he's extremely easy to medicate and gobbles his pill right down with dinner. Phoenix additionally struggles with separation anxiety, but we are hopeful he will continue settling down as he adjusts to all his recent life changes. This sweet boy deserves a new home to call his own, and he will pay you back with all the devotion in the world. If you think he'd be a good fit, please apply. Experience with the breed preferred. *This dogs adoption fee is $175Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Interested in this animal? The first step is an application, which can be completed at www.cvrrescue.org/adoption-applications/. The adoption fee helps cover a portion of the care provided for our animals, including spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm testing for dogs, FeLV/FIV combo testing for cats, deworming, age-appropriate vaccines (including rabies vaccine), and any medical care received while in our care. All cats and dogs are on flea/tick and parasite prevention for the duration of foster care. Notes about puppies: Adopters can expect a new puppy to have accidents, chew things they shouldn't, and have other normal, energetic puppy issues until they are trained, including jumping, mouthing, and general youthful naughtiness. If you experience puppy issues, please feel free to contact us; we’re happy to offer guidance. Also, if a puppy is a mixed breed, we cannot guarantee an adult weight. If your residence has weight restrictions or if you’re looking for a specific adult weight, we don't recommend applying for a mixed-breed puppy. We also offer rehoming services for pets currently owned by individuals. In these cases, we list the animal as a courtesy to the owner, and the animal is not currently in the care of CVRR, such that we can make no representation or guarantee of the animal’s behavior, demeanor, or health assessment. All information listed for a courtesy-posted animal is provided by the current owner and should be verified by any potential adopter. CVRR is a nonprofit organization. We have no paid staff, and all applications are reviewed and processed by our volunteers. Please be patient and understand that it may take 7-14 days to process your application, check your references, and gather follow-up info. You can expedite the process by providing accurate phone numbers and email addresses for your vet and landlord references, and by answering each question fully. Once your application is approved, we will schedule a meet-and-greet to see if the animal picks you, too. If it seems the adoption will be a good match for all, we will collect the adoption fee and complete the adoption contract. CVRR is a NO KILL rescue organization, and we have a LIFETIME COMMITMENT to all of our animals. If for any reason the adoption does not work out, the animal must be returned to CVRR. We will reevaluate the animal and choose a new home based on the best fit for it. October 16, 2024, 8:35 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Update: Apollo has been with us for several months, and has told his foster room. He is more than ready to find a home. He plays hard with other dogs, and can become overstimulated so just need some guidance when it comes to hanging out with multiples. He does great with the foster dogs around him at his own foster home, and his patient enjoys playing with his female companion, who is about the same age, Serena.  Apollo can scale a 6 foot fence in a dog lot, but Does well in the house and can be confined to a crate without any issues. he is also fine in a yard where there might be 6 foot fences, but we do recommend supervision for that exercise time. Apollo loves playing with toys, and can run for hours. He does have pre-drive, and we don’t recommend Small animals, cats, or poultry, although he was fine with the horse that was housed in the pasture next to him recently. if you’re looking for a dog with energy, and a happy attentive attitude with intelligence and ability, look no further! Apollo is the man for you!    We were surprised when we ended up with our very own sporting dog who looked like a Belgian Malinois, but is not, and we’re thrilled that a dog trainer who has two similar looking dogs was willing to take him in and work with him. He is one year old, and was neutered before leaving us for foster care. Turns out this boy can jump! And not just jump, but do mighty leaps without being trained! he gets along great with other dogs, which is a huge bonus, and we look forward to him getting some direction with his dog trainer friend in the next few weeks. We don’t know what his working capabilities are, but his athletic ability alone means he will be fun to be a sports dog! And maybe some bite work would be enjoyable along the way? to find out more about this 60 pounder, you can write to us at FOACinfo@gmail.com!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 16, 2024, 6:47 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Venus and her sister Serena were signed over to the Campbell county shelter so that we could help them find new homes. The girls are safe and with a foster home with a knowledgeable foster mom who says they are doing great! They do not need to have one another around in order to, feel comfortable, and they are not protective of one another when they are together. It was good for them to be together initially for the transition, but we feel very comfortable with them being adopted to knowledgeable German Shepherd lovers! They appear to be social with other dogs,  and are willing to learn family dog training! To adopt Venus, or her sister Serena, start with an application which you can find on our website.  (The girls are prospering now that they have been separated and are in two different foster homes.)   PLEASE NOTE: This pet has been posted by Friends of Campbell County Animal Control, Rustburg, VA. For questions about the pet, please email us at FOACinfo@gmail.com. All adoptions begin with an application, found under the "Animals" tab on our website, friendsofcampbellcounty.org. *Unaltered babies under the age of six months can be adopted only to residents of Campbell County, the City of Lynchburg, and counties touching Campbell County. *Unaltered adult pets six months or older will need to be sterilized before they can be adopted outside our local area of Campbell County, the City of Lynchburg, or counties touching Campbell. *We do not promote dog adoptions to homes where an invisible fence is the fencing of choice. *We do not permit cats or kittens to be declawed following adoption.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 16, 2024, 6:47 pm

Not good with cats,
Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.    Here’s the story: Malia has lived with the same family for three years. We were told she came from a puppy mill situation and that the puppy mill was shut down the day after she was adopted, so we can only imagine how sad it must’ve been for her to be born into that situation. Despite good training and socialization, we cannot change our dogs’ personalities, and as she has matured, it has been determined that she cannot be around small animals or poultry. She has also had issues with her normal protective nature as a German shepherd with other dogs around.  We have had German shepherds that were different than this, but this is her personality and her family has come to terms with it and feels a new home is the only answer for her to be happy. They have lost chickens and ducks that have wandered into the fenced area. She has an invisible fence rather than a physical fence so from the get-go, we will tell you a physical fence is going to be necessary if you plan to have other animals around Milea. her family says she is friendly with humans but of course she needs some adjustment time like most German shepherds. We appreciate that they were willing to take her home after an introduction to us so we can have a few days to try to reach out and find a rescue or a home. Please share this post, and if you are a shepherd lover, and feel you can help Malia, we beg you to contact us.  She will decline quickly when she comes back to the shelter if she has not found a home before that. We cannot save every dog despite our efforts, but this is one we would like to help.  Inquiries are made by filling out an application with additional questions added to your notes, and by going to our webpage: friendsofcampbellcounty.org.  #gsdlove  #gsdlover         PLEASE NOTE: This pet has been posted by Friends of Campbell County Animal Control, Rustburg, VA. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. This is Luke, a chunky youngster brought to the shelter and lucky enough to find a foster home fairly quickly. He is just four months old. and is a really happy boy, though not well-socialized yet. We are guessing about his breed mix, and are thinking at least a little German Shepherd is involved. Luke would like a home with a caring family who will patiently teach him about wearing a collar and will help him with developing his confidence. Isn’t he such a cuddle-bug?  #chunky #bigboy #playintherain       PLEASE NOTE: This pet has been posted by Friends of Campbell County Animal Control, Rustburg, VA.
