You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Energetic and wanting to please: Apollo!  He is more than ready to find a home. He plays hard with other dogs, so just needs some guidance when it comes to hanging out with multiple other dogs during playtime. He does great with the foster dogs around him at his foster home, and enjoys playing with one of the female canine companions who is about the same age, Serena.  Apollo can scale a 6 foot fence if he is confined to a small dog lot, but does well in a yard where a taller fence shows him his boundaries.  He is housetrained, and cratetrained! He loves playing with toys, and can run for hours. He does have prey-drive around smaller animals—not unusual with energetic shepherds—and we don’t recommend a home with cats or poultry. He is non-reactive to livestock and was fine with the horse that was housed in the pasture next to him recently. if you’re looking for a dog with energy, and a happy attentive attitude with intelligence and ability, look no further: Apollo needs you! Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 13, 2024, 11:49 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Malia is in the market for a new home.  Here’s the story: Malia has lived with the same family for three years. We were told she came from a puppy mill situation and that the puppy mill was shut down the day after she was adopted, so we can only imagine how sad it must’ve been for her to be born into that situation. Despite good training and socialization, we cannot change our dogs’ personalities, and as she has matured, it has been determined that she cannot be around small animals or poultry. She has also had issues with her normal protective nature as a German shepherd with other dogs around.  We have had German shepherds that were different than this, but this is her personality and her family has come to terms with it and feels a new home is the only answer for her to be happy. They have lost chickens and ducks that have wandered into the fenced area. She has an invisible fence rather than a physical fence so from the get-go, we will tell you a physical fence is going to be necessary if you plan to have other animals around Milea. her family says she is friendly with humans but of course she needs some adjustment time like most German shepherds. We appreciate that they were willing to take her home after an introduction to us so we can have a few days to try to reach out and find a rescue or a home. Please share this post, and if you are a shepherd lover, and feel you can help Malia, we beg you to contact us.  She will decline quickly when she comes back to the shelter if she has not found a home before that. We cannot save every dog despite our efforts, but this is one we would like to help.  We are happy to respond to any inquiries you may have! Please complete an application with additional questions added to your notes, and by going to our webpage: friendsofcampbellcounty.org.  #gsdlove  #gsdlover         PLEASE NOTE: This pet has been posted by Friends of Campbell County Animal Control, Rustburg, VA. For questions about the pet, please email us at FOACinfo@gmail.com. All adoptions begin with an application, found under the "Animals" tab on our website, friendsofcampbellcounty.org. *Unaltered babies under the age of six months can be adopted only to residents of Campbell County, the City of Lynchburg, and counties touching Campbell County. *Unaltered adult pets six months or older will need to be sterilized before they can be adopted outside our local area of Campbell County, the City of Lynchburg, or counties touching Campbell. *We do not promote dog adoptions to homes where an invisible fence is the fencing of choice. *We do not permit cats or kittens to be declawed following adoption.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 7, 2024, 11:06 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Sweet Lucky, signed over due to her human's incurable illness, came to us feeling sad and depressed. We were determined to raise her spirits by giving her extra walks and time out of her kennel run, and found that one added bonus to that was helping her housemate feel less depressed as well.  Madison, a senior cat, was brought in at the same time, and the two of them of them seem to be good companions for each other. Lucky is housetrained, and is such an easy-care girl! She walks nicely on her leash, but would be happy just roaming around a fenced yard, if that is what you can offer her. She has been fine and even a bit playful with the other dogs she has met.  PLEASE NOTE: This pet has been posted by Friends of Campbell County Animal Control, Rustburg, VA. Story
Alex is a German Shepherd/Hound mix. He one of six left behind from a large litter. He was owner surrendered to BHS due to the owner could not find homes for all the puppies. He was born June 18, 2024. Alex has a copper tone look about his coat. The sun really brings out the copper shine. He appears to be one of the smaller pups in the litter. He has been with his siblings since birth and is now ready to have a family of his own. When out in the open yard he is very attentive to his foster mom. He comes when called and does not wander far. He is smart and is eager to learn. He is a puppy and does need to get plenty of exercise. He would do well with children that understand getting puppy jumps and nibbles. He gets along with other dogs. He has not been around cats but yet he is young enough to be trained to enjoy a cat's company. If you are looking to add a pup growing to large size and would become your best friend, Alex is the one for you. He has been dewormed, microchipped, on preventive for flea/tick, and has received the Distemper-Parvo combination vaccine. Until Alex is neutered, he is not available for adoption outside of the counties contiguous to Bedford County.
