Story
Meet Cooper Cooper is a stunning and wonderful purebred 3.5 year old GSD. He came from a junk yard two years ago. He is an escape artist. He would do best with a single owner, and could use a job, sport, or some sort of work. He would excel at any assigned task. Cooper was adopted a year ago but sadly, his owner unfortunately experienced medical issues that required him to surrender Cooper back to Lincoln/Cumberland shelter. We met and assessed Cooper, who reminded me a lot of my son's retired military working dog. He will take a bit of time to warm up to a new person, but once he has, in the case of the shelter staff, he is happy and playful. We prefer an adopter to have GSD or Malinois experience. He is not a famly-type pet. Cooper needs a person who understands this type of dog and he needs. His hips look great, and we saw no concerning behaviors. Thank you for choosing rescue.

Story
This is MACON! The handsomest 2 year old male who is a very striking breed of dog and dog. Seriously, we're not sure his breed but we know he'll be a larger pup and he's wonderful. Macon was found running down the middle of the highway in Macon County, was found by some kind souls who took him in. Macon loves other dogs and kids, but he has a bit too much energy for the good Samaritans that found him. He foster sister is a 13 year old Chi that Macon is very respectful to, but the Chi is a bit cantankerous and doesn't like to share. Macon knows his manners, caught on to the basics very quickly, he knows to sit, stay and other basic commands. He absolutely LOVES toys. His fosters say he could chase a tennis ball or frisbee forever (fetch level pro) but he does very well when let inside to cuddle on the couch too. If you are interested in having this wonderful pup join your family, please let us know using this link: dixiegirldogrescue.org/adopt-form. From there, we'll forward your application to his foster family who will be in touch. ======================================================================================== If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at http://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/adopt-form PLEASE MAKE NOTE- OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN ALABAMA (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED), OUR DOGS TRANSPORT TO THEIR NEW FAMILIES IN RHODE ISLAND AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED. Story
Delta Marie Delta is a sweet and loving 3 year old shepherd Pyrenees mix. She enjoys running and romping in the yard as well as loving on her human. She is up for lounging on the sofa or going on an adventure. She needs an active family that can keep her busy. She is shy at first but once she warms up to you she wants to be in your lap. She is food motivated and a fast and eager learner. She is good with children over 10. She can be dog selective, so not every dog is her friend and she is not a fan of cats. She needs a fenced in yard due to her high prey drive of chasing squirrels, so she get lost.  She is housebroken and crate trained and walks on leash. She is a happy energetic girl looking for her furever family. She has been with us for a year and was surrendered by her owner because they were moving and didn't want to take her. She is spayed, up to date on vaccines, dewormed, microchipped with lifetime monitoring, on flea and hw prevention. Story
Meet Junior- a sweet, playful, and funny shepherd mix who has the most beautiful brownish-red coat and a happy clownish behavior.Junior’s owner past away unexpectedly and he needed to be rehomed quickly. This boy loves having human attention; will follow you everywhere. He enjoys giving and receiving kisses andlikes to nibble on your hands and feet. However, foster mom is working on him being a bit gentler with it.Junior absolutely loves to play with other dogs. His play style is both gentle and rough. When he plays with dogs he plays according to the vibe of the other dog. He can lay down and play gentle, or he can run around and tackle. He can be a couch potato too!!He is good with children and rides well in the car.He is learning basic commands and will sit automatically when he gets a treat, taking it so gently. Since he was without food for some time after his owners passing, he gets so excited and dances all around when the food bowl comes out. and then runs into his kennel when its time to eat. He does not have any food aggression towards humans or animals. However, he does try to push the other dogs away from their bowls when he is finished, so best to keep him separated until everyone is done.  Junior sleeps very well at night. He lays on his bed and doesn't want to start his day too early. He has not chewed anything in the house. He is housetrained and can be trusted in the house not to chew anything that he should not.Leash training is in process. He is still very skittish with loud noises and fast unexpected movements. New people coming in the house initially scare him, but he has made big improvements in the weeks he has been at his foster home.If you're searching for a handsome, happy, affectionate, and well-behaved companion, Junior might just be the perfect match for you.Name: JuniorBreed: German Shepherd Dog/CrossbreedSex: MaleAge: 2 years  (estimated)Weight: 53.0Spayed/Neutered: NoVaccinations: Up to dateHeartworm: Positive on recent testing. Story
Berkeley Robinson is currently in RI and looking for a 'furever' home! Berkely is a special girl that will slowly and quietly work her way into your heart. Having spent most of her first year living outside with minimal human interaction she is slowly learning that being inside is pretty nice and humans can be too! Berkeley loves puppies and enjoys romping and playing with them in her foster home. She requires a fenced yard. She extremely shy and skittish (flight risk at first), but will open up over time once she builds trust and feels safe. Once she trusts you she will come to you for pets and love. She needs a very patient adopter willing to give her the time to adjust and trust, but it is well worth it. She is incredibly sweet. She will benefit from professional training to help her continue to make progress. Teens and older only, busy kids are too much for her. She'd also prefer a quieter household while she settles in, too many visitors make her nervous. Berkeley resource guards, an adopter with experience would be helpful. Having spent most of his first year outside with other dogs rather than people, Boone thrives in the company of a fur friend. However, he's shown improvement with the use of a calming collar and Purina Pro Care Calming supplements. Inside the house, Boone is very low-key and prefers to stay in one spot, never needing to be crated.
