Story
Riley was born about January 7, 2023 and will fill out to about 65 lbs.  She is on the small side for a GSD and does appear pure bred, but there is no way to know for sure.  She has only been with us for a couple of weeks and has been really wonderful with all the other dogs large and small.  Somehow this lovely girl ended up at Rochester Animal Services (City of Rochester/RAS) and due to her emaciated condition and the incredibly awful condition of her coat along with initial shyness the shelter team decided she should go into rescue for a while to recoup from whatever hell'ish situation she was living in and, of course, it appears she has had puppies in the not so distant past.  She was wonderful for her first bath and just stood still.  It seemed she realized how much it was needed.  She rides well in the car, is fine about crates and has shown she is house trained.  We like to mention to be prepared for some work in this area due to all these changes.  We have a dog door here so if there is not one in her next home Riley and her new humans will need to figure out clues.  Riley knows 'sit' and she shakes with her right paw.  The funniest thing we've learned about this girl is that when the aluminum water dish is empty, she paws the dish and tosses it making all sorts of ruckus!  Since we've noticed this and have looked at her and laughed it seems she at times does this just for fun and attention - too funny!!!   Riley was relinquished to the city shelter by her owners.  In their notes they said she's very good on leash, yet we feel she pulls enough to mention here.  We are told she was great with children as young as 5, but because they said her worst quality was that she was shy we feel if there are young people in the home they should at least be in their teens just for her comfort level.  They did say her favorite toy is one that squeaks, and her best quality is that she is very lovable.  We are unsure of cats as they stated she will chase one if she sees it outside.  it seems she has not lived with any.  All in all she is just a typical GSD looking for a new home which she hopes will give her a lifetime of love.   The Adoption Fee for this dog is $_500.00_. Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. In general our fees include spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccines, Home Again micro-chipping & registration, worming & flea control - a 'complete' pet. We accept CASH or Visa/Mastercard ONLY.    Joyful Rescues has no funding except for our adoption fees and miscellaneous donations. Story
Kevin was born about December 10, 2022 and will likely top out about 75 lbs.  We were contacted by a neighboring city humane society that has been overwhelmed for some time on a consistent basis due to the current drastic over population of dogs in the greater western NY region and somehow Kevin landed there and was stressed by the noisy and chaotic environment and was not showing well to the general public.  When this happens the volunteers reach out to rescues to quickly get the dog into a more normal situation.  While we admit coming into Joyful Rescues can be somewhat stressful itself Kevin walked in and felt very much at home.  As I write this he's been here less than a week and has flourished.  He loves every human he has met here and we surely fell in love with him in return.  Kevin has been very well behaved and pleasant to get to know.  He doesn't jump up on us and he does well on leash and he is a strong swimmer.  He has been perfect with all the other dogs large and small and those more his size are very fun to run and play with.  When the play is done he settles nicely.  He has done well on the few car rides that it took to get him to the main site.  At this point the only negative we've had is when he casually walked up to our small artificial Christmas tree and ever so gently plucked off one of the lighted flowers.  We didn't think much of it until we realized this cute tree we bought at a thrift shop won't light with one light missing!  Oh well, saving Kevin's life is surely worth this minor blip in our lives.  The municipal shelter he came from is so over full that they've admitted they will likely have to euthanize for space, remember Kevin wasn't showing well.  YIKES!  Joyful Rescues has become dedicated to helping dogs that are abandoned or needing a new home in this greater western NY region and someone out there that finds Kevin on our site and welcomes him into their lives are going to be very happy! My name is Freya and I am a big senior gal....I am very tall and I could jump up and give you a hug no problem. I am great with people....and very sweet, I love belly rubs and I am a country girl! We are thinking the best home for her is without other animals....and a country setting would be ideal.

Story
Meet Tessa - She is a young german shepherd mix who is one very intense girl! In order for Tessa to be happy and thrive in a new home, she needs a lot of mental stimulation, she is very focused and intense, high energy and confident. She would be a good working dog, as she is not your typical house dog. She also would need a fenced yard to keep this very active girl contained. She would do best as the only pet, she needs a lot of activity and exercise. She would not be a good fit with children under the age of 13.

Story
This girl was a drop off at my farm over 6 mo ago. At first she was shy but opened up quickly to love once she knew she was safe. She is very good in my house and follows freely outside. Even when she first got here she followed me like a shadow where ever I went. We have vetted her and she received her rabies shot as well as a physical. She is sweet and kind. She has been great with my dogs and my Grand kids. I would keep her, but I do not have the space or financial ability. People see a farm and like to drop off their animals. Can you help me save Annie. Soon she will have to be taken to a shelter and we dont want to do that. Can you help and save Annie even to foster her. I know she is a loving kind dog with a huge heart. She just needs a chance. Thank you

Story
This is the famous Jake who had everyone on pins and needles when he was running scared for about two months! Thanks to numerous help from the community, he was finally trapped and brought to safety! 😍 Jake is getting lots of love from the shelter staff and his shelter family is learning new things about him every day. Jake is healthy and up to date on vaccines and ready to find his forever home. 🥰 Jake will need to go to a home that has experience with the breed. Jake is very loyal and loves to play. He really is just a large teddy bear who also loves to give hugs and receive belly rubs. 💞 We have learned that he is very nervous around men and will need a family that has the time and patience to spend with him and help him learn all the fun things about being a dog. 🐾 His shelter family does feel that having a fenced in yard would be very beneficial for Jake. He is still learning about leash walking and will need some training.
