Story
Koko is the absolute perfect dog! He is both dog and cat friendly. He is not reactive at all. He simply wants to please people and be loved! He loves to play. He’s great on a leash and he is crate trained! He’s young at only about 1 year old. What else could you ask for really?   Koko has a very sad story for the short life he has lived. In the past place he lived there was a house fire, he luckily escaped and ran out. When one of our volunteers found him outside and found out where he came from , they spoke to the people and they told them they did not want him back. So not only did he escape a house, fire and survived, but then he had nowhere left to turn after. Koko needs your help now! He desperately needs a foster or forever home. He’s currently alone the majority of the day except for when our volunteers can go to take him out twice a day  . He just wants to love you.. He will be neutered and receive his vaccines in January.  Please give him a chance. Email nycatcoal@yahoo.com to inquire January 1, 2026, 7:05 pm

Story
IDGSR Welcomes LODDIE into the safety of the rescue!! THIS DOG IS FOSTERED IN TENNESSEE & AVAILABLE FOR TRANSPORT ************** Happy New Year friends! My name is Loddie and I'm the sweetest petite 1.5yr old female Shusky mix you'll ever meet! I am located in Memphis TN an will be available for transport. Quick Facts Age: 1-1.5yrs old Kids: would do find with older kids (8+) Dogs: good with other large dogs Cats: NO cats Training: needs standard obedience training 1. I was a dumped Memphis dog but thanks to my amazing foster mom, she rescued me off the streets & is helping me find the best forever home. 2. For a young pup, I'm gentle, affectionate, mild energy, and oh so lovely. I do get some puppy zoomies every now and then but I have an overall wonderful disposition. 3. I'm a smaller gal, only weigh about 44lbs! If you live in a smaller home, townhome, condo, or apartment, I'll do just fine as long as I get some walks & daily playtime. I would love my own fenced in yard but that isn't a requirement. 4. I get along well with other doggos and would love a nice large breed friend to play with. Have you ever played chase to see who has the fastest zoomies?! 5. Will you paw-promise to train me in obedience? Let's prove to your nosey neighbor that you have the bestest & most well trained pup on the block! I'm already house & crate trained and I have the 'down' command locked in. 6. If you are looking for a snuggle buddy, walking companion, sous chef in the kitchen, Hallmark movie watcher, or unpaid therapist - I'm your girl! **SERIOUS APPLICANTS ONLY! If you are not 100% ready to adopt, please wait** ************** ***IMPORTANT ADOPTION INFORMATION*** -ALL dogs are fostered in TENNESSEE unless otherwise noted -We do transport dogs to the east coast; a transport fee will apply -All dogs are up-to-date on vaccinations, heart-worm testing, monthly preventatives, & are spayed or neutered -Puppies under 6-months of age will require a SPAY/NEUTER CONTRACT, a portion of the adoption fee will be refunded upon documentation of the spay/neuter -An application must be submitted before scheduling an appointment to meet a dog -Dogs are introduced to prospective adopters BY APPOINTMENT ONLY -Due to the high volume of emails we receive, first priority will be given to those with submitted applications -All rescue work is done by dedicated volunteers, please be respectful of their time -Not able to adopt? Story
Meet WAFFLES, (aka Waffy-WooWoo by her foster) a sweet and loving older Shepherd mix who has captured the hearts of everyone she meets. Waffles is a well-behaved pup who is crate and house trained, and knows her commands. She loves to observe the world from the comfort of her dog bed. Waffles is a smart girl who would love a home where she can connect and bond with her human. She is a loyal and loving pup who will always be by your side. Waffles, while good with people and most other dogs while at home, she is what's called leash-reactive, which means she does NOT do well with people, animals, cars, you name it - while out and about and on walks around the neighborhood. Anything fast-moving. (She does love car rides, though!) For this reason, she needs a fenced in yard and would enjoy being more of a homebody where she won't get anxious while on a leash. (the fenced in yard just to block out the outside world more than contain her, because believe it our not, Waffles can jump a 7' fenced! So even with the fence, she'll need to be put out on a tie-out) Being reactive to fast, unpredictable things, younger kids would be a no for her too, just to be safe. (Waffles comes with a sponsored adoption fee of only $100 for the right adopter!) 🤪Waffles is a little shy when meeting new people or dogs, so her new family will need to be patient with her as she adjusts. However, once she gets to know you, her tail never stops wagging and she is all about belly rubs and playtime. Waffles is an active girl who loves to run and play outside, but also enjoys sunbathing and stretching out on a grassy area after her daily workout. She seems good with other relatively calm dogs. She's protective of her home and is best crated as guests are arriving to make a smoother transition - we can talk to you more about that as it's easily manageable. 👉 Adoption fee INCLUDES: all vetting to age (including deworming, flea & tick etc), spay/neuter and microchip (if the dog is under 6 months, alter and chip will occur after they're 6 months, covered in full at our clinic or reimbursed partially at a vet of your choosing). If the dog is older than 6 months and not yet altered, we will schedule ASAP (normally within 30 days) at our clinic . We also provide as an incentive a $60 rebate for completion of positive-based training classes. Adoption also includes lifetime support of the rescue. 💜 Please click PURPLE BUTTON above to apply or go to www.secondhanddogrescue.com/apply ! ✍ APPLICATION PROCESSING: We do most application processing virtually and dog meets will be individually by appointment with ONLY APPROVED APPLICANTS. We are not a shelter and are completely volunteer foster-based, so there is no central place to come see all of the dogs available. 📌 IMPORTANT NOTES: ** Housetraining with rescues is sometimes a work in progress and even if a dog is 100% in a foster's home, it should be expected there will be an adjustment period as a dog adapts to a new environment. This is even more true if the dog has not by chance had their altering appointment at time of adoption. ** Also, we highly recommend some form of 2-week shutdown and decompression for dogs going to a new home for best results. --> Lastly, breed guesses in rescue are just that (GUESSES!!) 99.9% of the time. We do not do DNA testing and our breed guesses are based on appearance and sometimes other traits, but we know the dog breed guessing game is a fool's errand even for those with LOTS of experience. 🗺ADOPTION AREA: Several hour radius of Rochester, NY (Canada within 3hrs IS allowed), except the young puppies need to be old enough to have gotten their rabies vaccination in order to cross the border- usually around 16 weeks).

Story
Introducing GIGI, the one-of-a-kind canine companion with a heart full of love! With her striking appearance that hints at a captivating mix of Schnauzer, German Shepherd, or maybe even a Belgian Lakenois, Gigi is truly a beauty to behold. Once she gets to know you, she forms an unbreakable bond and becomes your most loyal and devoted companion. Ideal placement for GiGi is in a low-traffic home - No apartments or townhomes with minimal company in and out. She can become protective and territorial over her people and space. However, there's nothing quite like the feeling of Gigi's unwavering affection and devotion, as she showers her chosen humans with endless love and adoration. From cuddle sessions on the couch to joyous playtimes in the backyard, Gigi will be your steadfast partner when you're home. When new people DO come over, she can be crated initially and introductions done in a controlled way which we can talk to you about and works well. But she's a wonderful dog for someone who is more of a homebody and wants to enjoy their dog at home and not out and about. GiGi would do well with a consistent routine with her people. 🤪 Gigi needs a home as an ONLY DOG and NO KIDS (and no cats or other animals). With Gigi by your side, you'll never have a dull moment, as she delights in discovering new tricks and challenges that engage her inquisitive mind. She's fully vetted and in the 60-70 lbs range. Story
BUDDY was surrendered recently by a family who said they could no longer care for him. No one breed look stands out to us, so we'll call him a medium mixy mix. He's a very sweet and friendly puppy (just under a year old) and loves to play and get attention. We got him fully vetted and he's ready for adoption. More pics to come as we get from his foster. (approx dob 1/23/25) 👉 Adoption fee INCLUDES: all vetting to age (including deworming, flea & tick etc), spay/neuter and microchip (if the dog is under 6 months, alter and chip will occur after they're 6 months, covered in full at our clinic or reimbursed partially at a vet of your choosing).
