GSD/Husky/Lab/Catahoula mixFour year old Dexter W. is a mixture of Labrador, GSD, Husky and Catahoula. His former owner’s parents have recently taken him in and he is just too much dog for them. They describe him as “a fun, smart and energetic companion. He loves to be near us and is a loyal best friend who loves to play.”  They believe he would be best with a family with older children or a family of young adults because of his energy level.  He has never been around cats. Story
May is a sweet, smart and energetic girl who is approximately 2 years old. She was adopted from a shelter and she is not good with our cats. In addition she is crated for too long during the day. She needs someone who is home and can give her daily exercise. She is anxious when left alone and takes medication. She is crated during the day while we are at work. It is a very long day for her. We keep her on a leash in the house while the cats are out, for the cats safety. She loves to run in the yard and play ball. She is very affectionate and sleeps in the bed with us at night. She deserves someone who is home more and where she can be the only pet.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING, PLEASE REVIEW OUR ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS AND COMPLETE THE ONLINE APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE TO BEGIN THE PROCESS. ONLY APPROVED ADOPTERS MAY MEET THE AVAILABLE DOGS IN THE GSRNJ PROGRAM - WWW.GSRNJ.ORG*** Meet Zia, a 3.5 year old long-haired German Shepherd girl. Zia arrived in the USA from Iceland along with her owner. Unfortunately he fell on hard times upon arriving here. He was faced with the most difficult and devastating decision, what to do with Zia while he returned to Iceland. He was here legally and not taking Zia back with him was no fault of hers. Icelandic authorities have very strict rules on the importation of dogs into their country, even if the dog originated there. With some help from the PANYNJ, the AHS Newark shelter and GSRNJ, Zia is now in foster care. As is often the case in rescue work Zia’s journey has taken yet another turn. Our goal was to reunite her with her owner back in Iceland. Over the last few months we have been working hard to comply with the Icelandic requirements for her to re-enter the country. A few weeks ago we received approval for an expedited application. About that same time the owner decided he wanted to return to the United States. Unfortunately over the last few days everything has taken a drastic turn and Zia now finds herself looking for a new home. None of the issues are Zia’s fault. While she has been with us she has been a perfect guest. Zia is a long haired GSD that is about 3 1/2 years old. She loves to play ball and will chase the ball as long as you are willing to throw it. She also loves water and enjoys frequent dips in the pool. She is up to date on her vaccines and is spayed. She has not been around young children. She is dog aggressive so she will need to be an only dog with a handler with prior GSD experience. Also no cats for this girl. She is very affectionate and will follow her human around. She is crate trained and feels very comfortable in her crate. She has a healthy appetite, eating twice a day. If you are interested in adopting Zia please fill out an application today!

ONLY APPROVED ADOPTERS MAY MEET THE AVAILABLE DOGS IN THE GSRNJ PROGRAM - WWW.GSRNJ.ORG*** Buddy needs an immediate foster home to begin heart worm treatment! He is a 3 year old German Shepherd, not yet neutered, and is very friendly. We are looking for a foster with no other animals, no young children and a household that is relatively calm. Basically he needs a Netflix and chill lifestyle while on heart worm treatment. The rescue pays for all expenses! We just need someone to keep him calm and take care of him during recovery. Fosters always get first right of refusal if you fall in love with your foster and decide to adopt. Buddy took a little while to warm up to our testers but started giving hugs and kisses and looking for belly rubs. He was very calm but also might not have been feeling his best so with treatment, that might change. He is also missing an upper canine and has a blue tongue! He warms up to people fairly quickly, likes giving hugs and kisses, and loves belly rubs.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING, PLEASE REVIEW OUR ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS AND COMPLETE THE ONLINE APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE TO BEGIN THE PROCESS. ONLY APPROVED ADOPTERS MAY MEET THE AVAILABLE DOGS IN THE GSRNJ PROGRAM - WWW.GSRNJ.ORG*** Teufel and Schwarz are a bonded pair of German Shepherds. Unfortunately, their owner passed away and through no fault of their own, these 2 are looking for a nice home. Both German Shepherds are very friendly and great with people, and both do well around other dogs. Teufel is incredibly sweet. She's 9 years old and has traditional black and tan Shepherd coloring. She's slow moving these days and won't be up for long hikes, but walks very well on a leash and would love to stroll her new neighborhood. She loves people and LOVES attention. She loves to play with toys and balls. Teufel could stand to lose a few pounds and is very much in need of a dental visit. Schwarz (which is German for "black") is an 8-year-old solid black male German Shepherd. He's a very youthful 8 year old with no trace of silver on his muzzle. He's a bit aloof and very curious, walks great on a leash, and is more interested in looking at his surroundings than playing with toys. He's a little anxious when he's separated from Teufel and really pulls from her confidence. A meet and greet for potential adopters with pets in the home will be required. Both dogs will do best with calm dogs since they are older. They are not good with cats. Although both dogs could in theory be adopted separately, we would love to see them go together into a new home. A family looking for laid back, chill dogs would be the perfect fit for these 2 sweet dogs.
We'll also keep you updated on Schwarz's adoption status with email updates.

Story
Playful, personable, & precious! Psst! Hey, you—yes, you! I can tell you’re looking for an affectionate 4-legged friend who will fill your heart and home with love. Allow me to introduce myself… My name is Layla, and I’m an enthusiastic, playful pup who gets along great with people of all ages. I also do well with most dogs, and best with male dogs, but I can get excitable from time to time. Being your only pup might be ideal, as I’d receive your undivided attention! Rest assured I’d give you mine in return. While I enjoy a nice cuddle, I’m by no means a couch potato—in fact, quite the contrary. At 2 years old, I’m pretty darn active and fit, if I say so myself. My agility is nothing to sneeze at, so it’s probably a good idea for your fence to be at least 6 feet high. I love to play (whether it’s with toys, other dogs, or people), so I hope you aren’t one of those “all work and no play” types! The truth is, I’m tired of this life and ready for a permanent family. More than ready. I have so much to give to the right family, but I can’t take the next step. That, my friend, is up to you.

These pups are in Trenton, New Jersey too!
