Story
Troy isn't your average dog, although we have not done DNA testing on him we are pretty sure he's 33% Husky, 33% Shepherd, and 33% Mountain Goat. He is an active, goofy boy who loves exploring and will climb or jump up onto tables, counters, or anything he thinks he might fit on to see if there is something cool to sniff.OTHER PETS: Troy is a friendly, laid back dog who prefers to hang out with other laid back dogs, he does not appreciate `in your face` play styles and will give appropriate feedback while interacting with other dogs. Troy should meet any dogs he would be living with prior to adoption to ensure a good fit. [Case-by-Case (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: [First Dog] VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] KIDS: Troy is an active, jumpy dog who would do best living in a home without small humans.[10+ (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Troy is an active dog who has no problem jumping up on furniture to explore the world around him. Multiple daily walks and plenty of mental enrichment would be a great start; Troy would do well as a hiking companion or agility dog with positive reinforcment. [Good Walking Buddy / Olympic Athlete]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Troy bond with his new owner as well as help him learn important skills. Further positive reinforcement training would continue to engage Troy's mind and would open up the doors to various dog sports / activities he could engage in with his humans like hiking or agility. [Minimal]GROOMING: Regular brushing will keep Troy's coat clean and matt-free. He may take after his husky side and `blow his coat` twice yearly, professional grooming can help with the increased temporary shedding. [Routine Brushing]January 28, 2025, 11:34 am

Story
Meet Dexter! A dignified eleven-year-old German Shepherd/Collie mix from Broomall, PA, whose spirit radiates the same youthful joy as a puppy wrapped in a gorgeous tan coat. Dexter is the epitome of loyalty and obedience, a gentle giant who knows his commands—sit, stay, come, and go—like the back of his paw! His intelligence and training make him a joy to have by your side, and he's always eager to show off his good manners. Despite being a senior, Dexter’s zest for life is boundless! He might be blind and living with diabetes, requiring two insulin shots a day, but that doesn’t stop him from embracing every day with a wagging tail and a playful attitude! Dexter's insulin costs approximately $25 per bottle, lasting about three weeks. This medication is most affordable when purchased at local stores or certain retailers. Dexter loves nothing more than a good chew toy or bone and relishes his daily walks. While dog parks might be a bit overwhelming for him, a quiet stroll through the neighborhood or some quality time lounging in the yard are more his speed. Dexter’s calm and composed demeanor shines through, especially when he's left alone for short periods—he’s perfectly fine and content on his own, though he’ll be overjoyed when you return. Dexter’s blindness hasn’t dimmed his spirit. In fact, it’s made him an even more loving and constant companion! He may not see, but he navigates life with a remarkable sense of trust and love, making him a wonderful companion who’ll stay by your side through thick and thin. He’s friendly to strangers, good with young children, and neutral towards other dogs—he’s the type who’s happy just being around, soaking up the companionship without demanding the spotlight. His ideal new family would be patient, loving, and understanding of his special needs, embracing his daily routine and appreciating his steadfast loyalty. Dexter is ready to bring endless joy and unwavering companionship to a new home, and he’s eagerly waiting to meet a pet parent who can match his gentle, loving nature. Great news for potential adopters, Dexter’s adoption fee has been sponsored by the family! Are you the one who can give Dexter the forever home he needs? If so, he’s ready to become your most loyal friend and constant companion. Contact us at adopt@joyfulpets.com to meet Dexter today!

Story
Meet Dexter and Emma! A delightful pair of senior companions from Broomall, PA, whose bond is as heartwarming as their personalities are charming. Dexter, an eleven-year-old German Shepherd/Collie mix, and Emma, an eleven-year-old Basenji/American Pitbull Terrier mix, are looking for a loving new home where they can continue their journey together, bringing joy, loyalty, and love to their future family! Dexter is a large, tan-coated gentleman who embodies obedience and devotion. Despite being blind and managing diabetes with two daily insulin shots, Dexter radiates a puppy-like joy that lights up the room. His favorite activities include leisurely walks and savoring his favorite chew toys, and he’s always up for a cuddle session with his human companions! Dexter is a true constant companion, always by your side, ready to offer his quiet presence and gentle affection. He’s a well-trained, medium-energy dog who knows commands like sit, stay, come, and go, making him an easygoing and reliable friend. Though he enjoys the occasional walk, dog parks can be a bit overwhelming for him, so he prefers a more peaceful environment. Dexter is good with other dogs and young children, and he’s unfazed by being left alone for short periods, making him a perfect fit for a calm and patient household. Emma, on the other hand, is a medium-sized, golden beauty with a spunky spirit and a love for life! She adores her chew toys, walks, and especially her visits to the dog park, where she can meet new friends and explore the outdoors. Emma’s playful and affectionate nature shines through in everything she does, though she has a bit of a stubborn streak that only adds to her endearing character. She’s great with other dogs and young children, though babies make her a little nervous, so a family with older children would be a better match for her. Emma is independent but loves affection from her human friends, and she’s happiest in a home with a fenced yard where she can safely roam and play. While she has a form of lupus, she’s currently not on any medication, and her health is stable. This bonded pair offers the best of both worlds—Dexter’s serene and loyal companionship alongside Emma’s playful and affectionate energy. They are ready to bring double the love, double the joy, and double the tail wags into a new loving home! Great news for potential adopters, Dexter and Emma’s adoption fee has been sponsored by the family! Are you ready to welcome Dexter and Emma into your family and experience the heartwarming bond they share? Reach out to adopt@joyfulpets.com and start the next chapter of your life with these two amazing dogs by your side!

Story
To adopt please fill out an adoption application. Summer is a beautiful 2yo female white German Shepherd Dog who was rescued as a stray in Memphis.  Friendly, well socialized, never meets a stranger!  (be sure to watch her video!). Good with kids although recommended for older kids just due to her size and enthusiasm!  Fine with other dogs.  Not cat tested.  Playful with moderate activity level outside and settles down quickly in the house. Good house manners. Housebroken but not crated because she doesn’t need to be. Obeys basic commands.  Loves to be with her people.  When she first came to us, Summer had heartworms, but she was treated without complications and cured and is now ready for adoption. Healthy and fully vetted, current on shots, spayed, weighs about 80 pounds. AWESOME young GSD will make a great companion (and jogging partner) for an active family who loves the breed. Here’s a note from her foster mom.  This is Summer. I found her running in traffic in July. She was nothing but ribs and hip bones when I found her, clearly she’d been on the streets alone for a while. I couldn’t leave her there. I took Summer to the vet, she had heartworms but she was treated and cured. She’s dog friendly but a little too active for my 2 senior dogs who just want to sleep all day! But she is dog friendly.   Last month we were harassed by 2 stray dogs during our walk but Summer never fought back or showed any aggression and we were able to just hurry away. I can't be sure about how she does with cats, I’ve never seen her with a cat. She’s very friendly with people, even strangers.  And good with kids. She’s somewhat obedience trained and knows some verbal/hand commands.  She has mild separation anxiety and doesn’t like being left alone and doesn’t like it when people (especially men) yell.  Summer’s ideal  Adopter should have experience with GSDs, be patient and willing to work with her separation anxiety, be able to spend a lot of time at home and enjoy an active lifestyle. Summer is a wonderful young dog and anybody who loves shepherds would be very happy with her.
