Story
Calling all German Shepherd lovers! My name is Heidi, and I am just the softest, sweetest, little shep-shep that you`ll ever meet! I came to the Berkshire Humane Society when my owner decided that three dogs was a bit too much of a responsibility. I have been pretty fearful since my arrival, so I can be viewed by serious applicants by appointment only. I have not had any issues with aggression, but I do tend to shut down and shy away if I`m approached quickly by someone new. I have not been super food motivated since I`ve been at the shelter, but that may change in a home when I am more comfortable with my surroundings. I could potentially live with a cat, since I know that they have sharp claws hidden in their furry mittens, and I do my best to avoid them. I was very underconfident with my dog introduction, but with a dog that can show me the way, I`d be open to meeting them! I coexisted peacefully with the two Shepherds in my previous home, but was not one to initiate play. I require a home without kids due to my fear of loud noises and sudden movements, but come around to the kennel staff wonderfully in the couple of weeks I`ve been here. I am walking nicely on my harness, but tend to stray behind the person walking me since I did not have much training in leash walking in my previous home. I am incredibly intelligent and would love an owner who has time and patience to work with me and go on fun adventures regularly. If you think I could be a good fit for you and your family, please call the kennel staff at (413) 447-7878 ext.126 to learn more about me and how to meet me!

Story
Izzy is an amazing dog. Unfortunately, she is not good with the other dogs in my house and the alternative is devastating. I do not want to go that route. This is my last resort. I would need her to have a home with no dogs and preferably no young children. She has never harmed any actual person but I would prefer her to go to a house with teenagers or no kids. Like I said she's never hurt a person but she still makes me nervous with younger children just because they are so handsy and I don't ever want her to get spooked and hurt a person. She listens well. She is potty trained. She loves to go for walks. She has lots of energy. She will go on hikes with you all day long. She is such a loving dog and needs the right home

is up to date on vaccinations and is spayed or neutered. (puppies under the age of 6 months may not be sterilized prior to adoption, if this is the case your adoption coordinator will discuss the process with you)  To adopt or learn more about: , you must fill out an adoption application. To find the application, visit our website: WWW.SANDYPAWSRESCUE.COM ** PLEASE READ: If a dog/puppy is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. In some cases this dog may be pending an adoption already, and their profile has not been updated yet. Please note, SPR does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated otherwise. All breeds listed are educated best estimates by transferring shelter staff, our volunteers or our vets. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them the All American MUTT.  Our dogs are rescued from various situations (kill-shelters, owner surrenders, strays, etc). It is most likely that both their parents were strays and mixes of some sort. If you are interested in this dog, you MUST submit an application. Sandy Paws Rescue does not a have a public shelter in Mass, so there is no building you can visit without an appointment. Our dogs live in private foster homes or boarding kennels down south until adopted, or in some cases in our very small private kennel facility on Martha's Vineyard and foster care homes through out MV, Cape Cod and other parts of MA. A large majority of our dogs are adopted/spoken for prior to transport and release from state mandated isolation. To learn more about our rescue, adoption fees, and procedures, review the list of FAQ’s on our website at WWW.SANDYPAWSRESCUE.COM. **The FIRST step in adopting an animal from our rescue is to submit a completed adoption application. ##2253361##

Story
Happy is a special guy with some unique looks to match. He is pretty good at making human friends and has a history of being really social and snuggly with his previous family. Happy has lots of energy and is looking for a family that can help keep his brain and body active and is a committed to using positive training methods to help him be his best self. While Happy has a nice history of making dog friends, he doesn`t always know the best way to introdcue himself, so he will need help working on his greetings. Happy would likely do best in an quiet neighborhood where he can focus on himself! If you think this dog could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Boston Adoption Center. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm-3pm – no appointment needed to speak to a staff person regarding available dogs. Preparing your home for your new dog or puppy ahead of time can help ease the transition for your new pet and set you both up for success should there be a dog that’s a good match! To learn more about how to make the first few weeks with your new dog or puppy the most successful it can be, please visit www.mspca.org/petresources. For more information on our adoption process, please visit https://www.mspca.org/adoption-centers/how-to-adopt/ Please note, in an effort to keep the stress levels reduced for the dogs in our care, our dog kennel areas will not be open to walk through. Interested adopters will work with a matchmaker on staff to determine which dog(s) they’re interested in - and if we can identify a match, potential adopters will be able to meet those dogs outside of the kennel. Cat and small animal areas will remain open to walk through.
