Story
Meet Dave, our charming German Shepherd who's recently joined us from Thomas J. O'Connor. We don't know much about his past since he was found as a stray, but what we do know is that he's been sweet and friendly with people. Dave is a typical German Shepherd with a keen alert bark, always ready to let you know when something's up. Despite his initial nerves, he's shown himself to be cautiously social with the other dogs he's met at the shelter. Dave's still a bit of a mystery in some areas, like his experience with house training or living with cats or kids. However, his friendly demeanor and classic shepherd traits suggest he could fit well into a loving home ready to provide him with patience and understanding. If you're familiar with the breed and looking for a loyal companion, Dave might just be the dog for you. Dave is still a puppy and chews things up such as pillows and books. Come meet Dave and see if he's the missing piece to your family puzzle. He's waiting to start his new chapter and would love a chance to meet you! If you're ready to adopt within the next 24-48 hours and want to learn more about, meet, or adopt this pet, you can start the process in one of two ways: Come in during open adoption hours Tuesday - Saturday 12:30p-3:00p. For in-shelter pets (not in foster care) coming in ASAP is the fastest way to adopt! **OR** Click on the pink "Adopt me" button to submit an adoption inquiry. Watch your email for a response from us! Adopting through this process will take several days and highly desirable pets are likely to no longer be available. PLEASE NOTE: Adoption inquiries are not holds or reservations. Pets are adopted by the first person we talk with who is a good match for the pet's needs. Multiple inquiries are accepted for each pet. All adult dog adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies and kennel cough vaccinations -current parvo/distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -microchip implanted & registered to adopter -treatment of fleas & ticks -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days of adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your pet.

Story
To adopt please fill out an adoption application. Zena is an 18 month old purebred German Shepherd Dog who was rescued from a bad situation in Memphis last summer. Zena has since been in her GSD-loving foster home where socialization and training have continued and where she enjoys the company of 2 other GSDs. Initially, Zena is wary of strangers but warms up quickly; in her video you can see she was friendly and trusting with the 2 strangers after about 5 minutes!  Loving, loyal, good guard dog, typical GSD temperament.   Great with other dogs and would enjoy a dog buddy in her new home. Great with kids and is very gentle with the young grandchildren who visit. Not cat tested.  Medium energy level outside, quiet and well-mannered in the house.  Crate trained and housebroken. Obeys basic commands.  Loves to be with her people.  Good on a leash, rides great in the car.  Healthy and fully vetted, current on shots, spayed, weighs about 85 pounds.  Zena’s ideal adopter will have GSD experience and the time/motivation to continue her training and socialization so she can reach her full potential. Beautiful young GSD will make a wonderful companion (and jogging partner) for an active family who loves the breed.
