Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Noel is a goofy, beautiful, carefree, energetic and very loving girl who just wants to have fun. She loves playing with the other dogs, going on walks, or just generally doing whatever her foster family is doing. She's going to make someone a fantastic buddy and companion. BACKSTORYNoel came to MOGS after she was seized by animal control for cruelty. She was starved, dehydrated and left outside with no shelter. She is currently is a foster home. TEMPERAMENT / BEHAVIOR Noel is amazing. She was seized for extreme cruelty but despite her suffering she still loves people. She's a sweet little girl who is very soft, friendly and goofy. She wants to greet everyone and will be very vocal about it. She loves being in the same room with her humans and will follow everywhere. She acts as a tripping hazard since she picks the least out of the way spot to lay down, especially in the kitchen. She does tend to sniff the counter and floor for yummies but has never jumped up to grab anything. Will try her best to reach into a high chair to get leftovers but will leave it if told to. Her foster family doesn't leave things towards the edge of counters so she is not given the opportunity to steal anything. She does like to chew on stuffed animals and does not know the difference between her toys and baby's toys so her foster family does their best to just keep non-dog toys off the floor. Like most GSDs Noel is a super shedder, her fur is very thick. TRAININGShe's learning basic manners and doing very well. She is food driven which will help with her training. The first new behavior she had to practice was waiting at baby gates or backyard fences. She has climbed a fence to follow her person on the other side. With a 6 ft fence she will be fine, with a somewhat lower fence, she will need complete supervision in the backyard to avoid escaping. She sometimes jumps baby gates to be closer to her people. She is pretty good at listening and has learned the sit command. She is house broken and crate trained. She does okay on a leash and is currently walked with a combo of the martingale collar and a gentle leader for better control. She can get a bit wild and unruly when other dogs are near since she wants to go say hi and play. Her future family will need to spend the time to exercise her and stimulate her, and finish her training using good canine leadership skills. OTHER ANIMALSNoel gets along with most dogs; she just wants to play. Sometimes she plays too rough for other dogs because she is so excited. She does not seem to understand her size and she is very fast moving. Currently lives with her foster siblings, a 25lb dog and a 12lb chiweenie. Noel does seem to respect the smaller dog's space. Noel would do best with a same size and energy level doggie buddy to play and romp with. She's still got a lot of puppy in her and occasionally doesn’t notice when other dogs tell her they're tired, so you may have to remind her that play time is over. She takes correction easily and is perfectly willing to go inside and let the other dogs rest. Noel has a mild-to-moderate small prey drive and cannot be in a home with cats. PEOPLENoel does well with adults and is very good with kids. She has been very patient with the human toddler in her foster home. When the young one gets a little crazy, she for the most part handles it very well. She has learned the command 'escape' or move away from toddler reach. When she has reached her limit, she will let him know with a nudge or growl but has never shown aggression. Noel is a large, strong and energetic dog who has the potential to be too rough in play and knock a child over, or collide with a child. As with all large dogs, she must be supervised around small children just to be sure things don't get too rough. MEDICAL Up-to-date on all vaccines, has a current rabies tag, is spayed and has been microchipped. She was originally heartworm positive but has been treated and is heartworm free. Noel has a toenail that grows up and over but doesn't appear to cause her any discomfort other than when she has her nails trimmed. At some point prior to coming to MOGS, Noel suffered from a LEFT hind leg femur fracture that did not receive any treatment, so healed slightly misaligned. Because of this, she does sometimes experience discomfort in that leg and requires intermittent pain management with an anti-inflammatory pain reliever. She also receives joint supplement support on a daily basis. Noel's injured leg has been assessed by her regular vet, as well as orthopedic experts at Blue Pearl, and both experts agree this will be a chronic monitoring situation which will need intermittent pain management for life. Even though Noel has medium to high energy, this leg can sometimes significantly limit her activity due to discomfort. At those times, she will do best with short walks around the neighborhood, just not too far as she cannot handle it. Noel has no other known medical issues.   If you're looking for a gorgeous, trainable furballwho will love you forever,NOEL is your girl! NOEL'S ADOPTION FEE:   $300This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so oINTERESTED IN ADOPTING NOEL?Complete an Adoption Application Now!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.STOP!! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If you're looking for a sweet German Shepherd who will love you forever,COLBY may be your ideal family member! BACKSTORYColby was owner-surrendered 'in the field' to Animal Control, as a means of helping his owner avoid animal cruelty charges. Colby was seized, along with 5 pit-bulls from a location that appeared to be involved in dog fighting. All of the dogs were secured by heavy chains around their necks, as well as heavy-duty springs, which prevented them from reaching each other. Their only shelter was barrels cut in half and turned upside down in the mud. When Colby came to MOGS he was starved to the bone and at 61lbs he was drastically underweight. TEMPERAMENT / BEHAVIOR Colby is a love bug. If he knows you he will want your attention and he will bug you until you give it to him. He wants to be a lap dog as well. Colby is a happy boy, he just wants to enjoy his home and all the thing he loves, food, his ball, his Buffalo horns, and hanging with his people. Because he is tentative with new people and dogs, he would not be a good candidate for dog parks, doggy day care, Home Depot visits or camping. TRAININGHe is house trained; crate trained and does not chew on anything he is not supposed to. Colby will need a person that is a strong experienced leader. OTHER ANIMALSColby can be an only dog. He does not play with the resident dogs in his foster home. His idea of playing with them is for all of them to run at full speed up to the back door to come back inside. He tries to avoid confrontation with other dogs, he will get up and walk away. He will not back down if he gets involved but it is only a barking match and he is easily called off. He does take a slow intro to other dogs but he currently lives with a 14-year-old, 8-year-old and 8-month-old, all GSDs. Colby needs a home with no cats, but he has been in a household with a small dog and did very well. PEOPLEHe warms up to women quickly, he takes longer to warm up to men. We do not recommend him going into a household with small children or very hyper dogs as he is easily annoyed. People that get to know him absolutely love him and he remembers the people he meets and greets them with a smile. MEDICAL Up-to-date on all vaccines, has a current rabies tag, is neutered/spayed and has been microchipped. Has no known medical issues. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Background - Hailey is goofy, tail chaser of a young GSD! She is energetic with a high toy drive. She loves balls, mile long walks, and outdoor playtime. Hailey LOVES new people and is very warm and welcoming after a controled meet and greet. This energetic girl came to MOGs from a local shelter after her previous owners no longer wanted her energy. Temperment/Behavioral - Hailey has made tremendous progress in the last year. Hailey walks on a leash well with an alternative collar. (She is still practicing her manners on a regular leash and collar.) She can walk calmly even with other dogs in the area. She will bark but has not shown agressivness towards other dogs. Hailey still acts like a puppy so she is learning mouthing manners. Potential adopters will need to understand mouthing and continue her education towards a well behaved pup. She does well on basic commands like sit, even when very excited. As with many young GSDs, Hailey has selective hearing. She knows her commands, but chooses when to listen. Unfortunately, she has proven that she will counter surf if bored. She knows that’s where her treats come from! The good news is that she is treat modivated and trains easily. As mentioned above, Hailey is working on following her commands 100% of the time. Right now, she is selective and will need continued training from her new family. She is crate trained and house broken. When she first comes out of the kennel she can be anxious but after about five minutes she will calm down. Hailey does not understand cuddling yet; a simple belly rub turns into play time. Her foster family is working on this!Other Animals - Hailey does not like rabbits, squirrels, stray cats or any other small animals. At the moment, Hailey would do best as an only pet until she grows comfortable and learns her manners. She is currently working on her dog manners with her foster parents and a MOGs trainer. Hailey can coexist with other dogs as long as toys are not involved.Children/People - Hailey LOVES new people of all ages and is very warm and welcoming after a controlled meet and greet. She accepted her foster Dad before accepting her foster Mom but seems happy with any human. When people are visiting, she will engage with them unless a ball is involved, then the ball is the most interesting object in the room. She has been introduced to babies, teenagers, and adults and really enjoys everyone. Hailey is a velcro dog and likes to be near her human at all times if they are home. She will follow her humans around the house and does not understand privacy. (Hailey even likes to lay in the bathroom if that is where her humans are!)Medical - Hailey has seasonal skin allergies and a possible minor food allergy. Her foster family would like to retest grain and chicken in the near future.Summary - Hailey NEEDS a home willing to spend actual time with her outside to run off her energy. Her ideal home needs to be active or at least willing to walk her daily and play with her outside. Hailey is smart. Like most young dogs, she can be mischevious (like grabbing a shoe and running) if she doesn’t have toys or active time to stimulate her mind and wear her out. Once she’s had those things, she’s a gem! If you're looking for a gorgeous, goofy, loving German Shepherd who has good energy,Hailey may be your ideal family member! HAILEY'S ADOPTION FEE:   $350 This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. Iandamp;#39;m friendly and happy-go-lucky Mark&#44 and I think in my short life that humans have let me down more often than Iandamp;#39;d care to admit. Iandamp;#39;m not blaming&#44 and Iandamp;#39;m not bitter. I just need for the tides to turn so I can find my person and have the life that I want so much but donandamp;#39;t know how to get. andlt;br/andgt;andlt;br/andgt;Iandamp;#39;m a good boy&#44 a very loving boy&#44 but I donandamp;#39;t know how to act appropriately in all situations yet. Sometimes all my pent-up energy can get the best of me. I get scared and afraid sometimes&#44 while other times I completely understand and know how to handle the situation and Iandamp;#39;m calm and relaxed. Iandamp;#39;m always a friendly guy&#44 and honestly&#44 I think the fact that Iandamp;#39;m so smart has made it difficult for me to deal with life in an animal shelter. Dogs can get pretty overwhelmed here&#44 and the smart ones like me are most vulnerable to being overstimulated in certain situations. The best thing for me would be to get in a home and find some consistency and structure in life. andlt;br/andgt;andlt;br/andgt;Believe me&#44 Iandamp;#39;m trying to learn&#44 and Iandamp;#39;m getting pretty good at understanding what is expected of me. When I do get out of the shelter and go on a andamp;quot;day outandamp;quot; with a friend&#44 I get to see the park and explore to my heartandamp;#39;s content and ride in the car and get a pup cup and get all my extra energy out. Iandamp;#39;m entirely different when Iandamp;#39;m at a andamp;quot;doggy day outandamp;quot; than when Iandamp;#39;m in the shelter. No surprise there. When I take walks&#44 I love to carry a toy in my mouth. Frankly&#44 itandamp;#39;s pretty doggone cute. It calms me and helps me get through some of those overstimulating situations. Iandamp;#39;m crate trained&#44 but I like to use a Kong or a bully stick in my crate to keep my brain occupied while Iandamp;#39;m alone in there. I am learning how to play appropriately with other pups&#44 and I have the grandest time dashing around and pouncing and jumping and showing off all my athletic moves. andlt;br/andgt;andlt;br/andgt;I really need my chance with a human who will love me and who will show me how to be the best version of myself. Oh&#44 I want to! I want so much to please you. I need guidance. I need someone with patience&#44 understanding and a willingness to train me with consistency and love. When I know you are happy and you are praising me&#44 it makes me feel so happy on the inside and proud of myself. And it motivates me to do even better the next time.andlt;br/andgt;andlt;br/andgt;Can you meet me and see if you are my person? Iandamp;#39;m pretty wonderful&#44 so come see.andlt;br/andgt;andlt;br/andgt;Love from Mark
