Milford, CT

Details
Needs experienced adopter, House-trained, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
We rescued Sidney from a horrific shelter in Memphis, TN. When we got him, he was skin and bones and had some barrier aggression issues (who knows what horrors he suffered there) It didn't take long for Sidney to realize he was now safe and could start letting down his guard. Sidney Poitier has filled out and is truly a stunning dog. Sidney is about 2 years old, and is at his healthy weight of 80 lbs. Sidney is a very intelligent fellow, he learns quicky and is anxious to please. He will do well with a job and/or a lot of stimulation, long walks and hikes. He will do well with an experienced dog person. Sidney loves meeting new people. He has done well with large dogs he has met, however he is would not be good with small dogs or cats. Sidney does show barrier reactivity, however, when the barrier is removed (whether it is a crate, fence or car window) he show absolutely no issues. Because Sidney likes a lot of activity, he will need a securely fenced yard (must be a physical fence, not an electric or invisible system)  He is neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped and on monthly treatment for flea/ticks and heartworm prevention Sidney is currently located in the Middle TN area but transport is included in the adoption fee for approved adopter If you are interested in Sidney Poitier, email cox_ann@bellsouth.net for an application

Story
Mack is a super intelligent purebred four year old Czechoslovakian Shepherd (similar to Dutch or Belgian Shepherds). He has had obedience training by the 203K-9 company and follows commands well. The breed is high energy and unfortunately we both work and cannot give him the amount of time he deserves to play and go out on walks. As we are a couple with two other dogs and a cat, we haven't been able to get them to all get along and therefore must find him a new home where he will get all the attention. This breed is often used for many jobs such as search and rescue, police, military, etc. We are willing to contribute to his further training for the right new owner. He will make a wonderful companion to someone who has a large fenced in yard with no other pets or young children. An application process and interview is required.

Story
Meet Eli, a sweet one-year-old, 40 lb. German Shepherd with quite a story to tell. He was found down south with a pellet lodged in his spine...yes, that's right, somebody actually shot this precious pup! Despite knowing only cruelty from humans in the past, Eli has thrived under the care of his current foster family, now on Long Island. Eli is very sweet and loves to play with toys. He is a happy boy who loves affection and knows exactly the right time to howl in the song, “Werewolves of London!” He likes the company of other dogs but has never been around cats. Now, Eli needs a very special person...he can walk but does suffer from some internal paralysis resulting in mild bladder and bowel dysfunction. Will you be the one to save this handsome deserving soul and give him a second chance? **This is a courtesy post for PAWS Long Island. If you have specific questions about Eli or are interested in applying/meeting him, please email adoptions@paws-li.org or call 631-306-4616. German Shepherd Dog

Male, 2 yrs
Southbury, CT
Size
(when grown) X-Large 101 lbs (46 kg) or more
Details
Good with dogs, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
Bosco loves affection, loves to play ball and take walks. He is good with other dogs and in his foster home he sees cats and will watch them sometimes but does not bother them. He's not been around young children in his current foster home so it is unknown how he would act with them but he's so far been friendly to everyone he's met, even in high-stress situations such as a crowded vet's office full of people and dogs of all sizes. Bosco is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and current on flea/tick and heartworm preventative. All dogs 6 month + receive a Proheart 6 injection at the time of their heartworm test. This provides heartworm prevention for 6 months from the time of that injection. This dog has tested positive for heartworms but has been treated and will soon be ready for his new home. The adoption fee is $450 if your adoption is prepaid and final prior to your dog's arrival. An additional $50 will be charged on dogs that are picked up from our Southbury CT adoption center, adopted at an event, or foster home. This additional fee is necessary in order to comply with CT HB 5368. WANT TO MEET OUR DOGS IN PERSON? Check the Events tab on cprdogs.com for all weekend adoption event info. The majority of the dogs marked as 'meet me' will be there to see you! If you are a MA resident, your new family member is required to go through a mandatory 48 hour quarantine period at our Woburn MA isolation facility. Your new family member will be dropped off by our transport on Thursday and will be ready for you to pick him/her up on Saturday between 11 am-1 pm. An additional $100 fee will be added for any dogs picked up from the Woburn MA quarantine facility. This additional fee is necessary in order to comply with MA Order 405-CD-12 and Order 1-AHO-05. TO APPLY PLEASE GO TO www.cprdogs.com. If your application was successfully submitted you will get a confirmation. Please DO NOT USE the ADOPTAPET "CONTACT THIS RESCUE GROUP" form below or you may not hear from us as these often end up in spam or bouncing back. After receipt of your application, an adoption counselor will then be in touch to answer your questions about this pup, discuss the adoption process and get the ball rolling! If you have not heard from one of our volunteers within 5 days of submitting your application, please email mollibo@gmail.com.
