Story
Meet Otto! Sweet, senior Otto was found as a stray up north with no identification. He waited in the shelter to be picked up, but sadly no one came for him. He has traveled down to meet you and is ready to find his comfy forever retirement home! Otto is a very friendly, snuggly guy that enjoys the company of humans and loves to go for walks. He is a bit on the rounder side, and is looking for an active companion that will take him out for his daily exercise to help him get to a healthier body condition. He is not a picky eater and is being a good sport about being put on a bit of a diet! He has lots of energy for an older guy and is excited to start his fitness journey, so he can continue to be an active senior.Otto is well socialized and is comfortable around humans. He can be selective with dogs and should have calm introductions. Are you willing to give this guy a life of leisure in retirement? Come meet Otto today at the West Van shelter from 12-3pm Tues-Sun! Story
Tulee is in a foster home. This is what her foster has to say: Tulee is a sweet, loving dog who settles nicely in the home and likes to lay in your bed with you. She bonds closely with humans and loves to have people around. . We have Tulee on some medications for now that is helping immensely with her separation anxiety!! We are sure that once she is in her permanent home that this behavior will decrease even more after some time for her to decompress. Tulee is one loving and gorgeous middle aged dog who is just waiting for the right person to come along and give her a forever home. Tulee is athletic, smart, funny, playful, and loyal. She's affectionate, friendly, and curious, and she's especially good at making new human friends. She'll make you laugh with her playful antics, and you'll love how she always wants to be by your side. She's a very intelligent dog and is treat-motivated, which makes her easy to train. She loves food and will happily do tricks for a treat. Tulee is good with some other dogs and is ok for having some doggy friends but she wouldn't like to live with another dog. She has a high prey drive and isn't good with cats or small critters. She would do best in a home without other small animals. Tulee can be anxious so she needs an experienced owner who is familiar with her breed and can provide her with the training and exercise she needs. She would love an active family or person who can take her on long walks and adventures. Tulee is a great dog and is sure to bring lots of love and joy to her new home. Story
Ellie is a sweet, older female dog with a lot of love to give. She is an intelligent and athletic dog who is always curious about her surroundings. Despite her age, Ellie is playful and enjoys going for walks, playing with toys, and having a good run around. She is affectionate and forms strong bonds with the people she loves. Ellie was found tied to a tree in a local park, so not much is known about her past. However, it is clear that she was well taken care of and is well-trained. She is a respectful dog who is friendly with humans and ignores most other dogs. Ellie is looking for a calm and peaceful home where she can relax and enjoy her golden years. She needs owners who are experienced with active dogs and can handle her prey drive and her occasional reactivity towards other dogs. She would do best in a home without small pets, as she has a strong prey instinct. Ellie would be the perfect companion for an experienced dog owner who is looking for a loyal and loving friend. Ellie does have some separation anxiety so she is not suitable for apartment living. She needs a home with someone willing to work with her on her anxiousness and fear of being left. Story
Uma is a beautiful dog with lots of love to give! She is a very affectionate and brave dog who is always curious about the world around her. She is friendly to everyone she meets and loves to play and receive pets. Uma is very smart and protective of her loved ones. She enjoys being the center of attention and having a good time. Uma has so much love to give and is a very healthy dog for her age. She would be the perfect companion for someone looking for an independent, yet loving dog. Please take note, Uma is not good with other female dogs. She would prefer to be the only dog in the household. She has shown some resource guarding with high value food items so her new home should be capable of managing and working on that with her. Uma was a free roaming dog prior to her coming to the shelter. Other Dogs: Well matched, males preferred Cats: Unknown Kids: Yes but older 15+ Apartment: No Walks: Loves them! Story
*Currently fostered in Houston Texas, available for out of state adoptions via rescue transportation. Video meet and greet available prior to commitment* This dog is a collaborative effort between Moka's Mission and Houston Chow Chow Connection. Mocha is a fluffy mixed pup just eager to find her new lease in life. She was rescued from a kill shelter in Texas just moments before being euthanized. She is believed to be around 4 years old, and based on behaviors definitely has GSD, Chow Chow, and even possibly husky mixed in her as well. Current weight around 65, 70 lbs. Mocha is a smiling, eager to please, extremely intelligent pup who clearly has been desperate for reaching a potential that was never offered to her prior. She loves to play with toys now, ( was unfamiliar with on arrival) and can be quirky, and vocal during her playful bouts. A game of tug which result in some head pats is her favorite. She also is very smart, and when given attention and motivation is quick to learn. She already knows several basic commands including sit, shake, kennel, wait, settle, and leave it. She is extremely versatile and once she trusts you, will give you her best. If you want to go hiking or exercise, she is all about it. If you want a pup to relax in the home and enjoy a movie day, she is ready! She loves to curl up on the couch or at your feet when it's time to settle down, but when it's time to go she is the first one to be there and ready for you. She also loves to keep you company while you do the most menial house chore's such as laundry or dishes. Mocha clearly was kept away from other dogs and animals when she was owned previously, so we do think she'd be best as an only pup. Proper continued socialization training would be required in order for her to eventually be able to share space with other dogs, but she would need to be socialized as an only dog first before considering adding another in. She clearly has a desire to want to know other dogs and can walk by them and flirt while on leash just fine during walks. However, she hasn't had enough time and proper playmates to engage in playtime at present without being rough. Unfortunately, she is not ok with cats, which is to be expected of the breeds she possesses. Mocha is fully vetted meaning she is up to date on vaccinations, spayed, microchipped and on monthly prevention for flea, tick, and heartworm. Her adoption fee and transport is dependent on services used. For more information on Mocha, please contact us at MokasMission@Gmail.com, or to apply for adoption please fill out an application here: https://form.jotform.com/41173109602142

Story
Meet Ben!Ben is a gentle young man with a goofy heart of gold. This incredibly smart dog has an insatiable sense of curiosity, always eager to know what you're up to and poking his head around every corner for a sniff. Despite his large size, of which he's not always aware, he loves to snuggle and roll around with his human. Bruno is house-trained and impressively polite, never barking or growling to disrupt the peace. Ben's intelligence shines through in his curiosity and love for learning new commands. He gets very excited to learn something new and in only a few weeks already knows sit, down, stay, and leave it, with his recall improving every day.Ben is quite calm and relaxed, especially given his breed - he is happy to spend his day napping in front of the fireplace and watching the world out the window, intermittently coming to say hello to his human and ask for a pet or a belly rub, before heading off to do his own thing. Ben comes alive during walks and outdoor adventures, and is happy to meet other large doggy friends with proper introduction. His strong sniff drive makes him a great candidate for scent work, and he loves to play with anything that squeaks. He can get quite excited when playing and be unaware of where his mouth is, so he is not suitable for a home with small children or small animals.Ben's journey hasn't been easy. When he first came to us he was initially nervous in his new surroundings. Ben grew up in a rural area, so he prefers a quiet home, and is still unsure about loud noises like heavy vehicle traffic and sirens. He is a little shy around new people, but warms up quickly, showing his sweet, playful nature. Ben needs a dog-experienced home that can provide him with the companionship, stimulation, and patience he needs, particularly to help manage his separation anxiety and to learn calm leash walking. With his courageous, sensitive spirit,Ben is open to new experiences and is making incredible progress in building his confidence. If you're ready to give Ben the love and attention he deserves, he will reward you with endless affection and loyalty.Do you think you could be Ben's person? Submit an online application adopt.spca.bc.ca and staff will contact the first suitable adopter to set-up a visit! Kindly note that due to the high number of applications and the availability of walk-in adoptions, an online applicant would have to be available to come in for a meet within 24 hrs.
