Story
I was left in front of an abandoned store to fend for myself. My luck changed, however, when some kind humans got me to safety. I am a young and active guy. I would love a doggie friend or even a jogger to take me out. I do know a few commands, am in excellent health, and can't wait to find my forever family. I have not met cats yet.

Story
Sweet, smart, and super friendly – Dk is the total package! He’s got the manners of a gentleman. He’s a great leash walker and already knows how to sit and shake on command. He seems to know to be calm and gentle around people. When it’s time, he has no problem letting his silly flag fly! He enjoys rough housing with toys, and has yet to find a toy he doesn’t like. He’ll play with any and all of them! Dk would prefer to be the only dog in the home.

Story
I'm Savvy and I'm a super-pup! Why do I say that? Well I can jump a 4ft gate in a single bound and will give you kisses that will paralyze you in love! Our amazing mom hid me and my siblings in a drainage pipe, but the streets are dangerous and most of our litter didn't survive. Me and one of my sisters' were the lucky ones. While my sister has found a furever, I am still waiting (as well as my mom, you can see a cool pic of me and her on our comfy dog bed in our foster home). My other superpowers you ask? Super Playful (I'm always ready to play! I'm not picky, any game will do- ball, toss the toy, chase the stick!), Super Romancer (Did I mention my beautiful eyes that linger at yours as I give kisses?), Super Explorer (Wow, do I like sniffing around the backyard & discovering new smells!), Super Protector (My big Foster brothers are teaching me to be watchful of the mailman & especially the UPS truck, but apparently the Domino's Pizza driver is ok? There's a lot to learn with this Superpower Stuff!) I would love to find our forever homes soon so that I can wow you with my Super Savvy Powers!

Looking for a playful and happy addition to your family? Meet Nikki! This young Dutch Shepherd mix is full of joy and energy, and loves her toys. Whether it’s tug-of-war, chasing a frisbee, or gnawing on her favorite stuffy (without completely destroying it!), she’s always ready for fun.Nikki is a social butterfly with dogs of all shapes and sizes, but she prefers playmates who match her vibe—confident, playful, and respectful of social cues. She thrives in a home with a doggy sibling who enjoys games like chase and light roughhousing while knowing when to take it easy. She’s just as good at setting boundaries as she is at respecting them. If things get overwhelming, she’ll gracefully bow out and find her own space. When it comes to people, Nikki can be a little shy at first, but patience, soft hands, and some tasty treats will win her over. Once she feels safe, her sweet and affectionate personality shines. Speaking of treats, this girl is very food motivated— I’m sure she’ll be responsive to any training! She’s crate trained and housebroken too. If you’re ready to welcome a playful, smart, and socially savvy pup into your life, Nikki can’t wait to meet you!Completed heartworm treatment September 2024

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Bucky!  NEED IMMEDIATE ADOPTION OR FOSTER HOME FOR BUCKY!   Shortly we will no longer be able to foster this wonderful dog.   Please, your help is needed.   Bucky will be an absolutely great member of your family!    Bucky Here!  Darn I am cute!   If I am not adopted soon, I will end up wearing some funky things.   STOP!   I do have my dignity!   ADOPT ME!!!!    Bucky - here again!   I have had a great week with my foster family.   I got to stay outside because of the cooler weather and play ball more!   I also got to snooze on my foster mom's knee while she was working.   I am patiently waiting for my forever home!   Come and get me!   Hello! I am Bucky. I am so happy I am with my loving fosters. I would like to meet my forever family!  I might sound and look scary, but all I want is love and to play ball. I want to tell you about me. I did have a car accident, that has not stopped me. I have had basic training, so i am a better boy! I am healthy and want to run and chase the big birds from flying over my yard. My foster family tells me I am so goofy.   Yeah, I look scary and I do bark letting everyone know I am here. When you come in my home with my family, I want to smell you then want you to pet me. My foster family does have some repair men come in the home. They leave my best friends. I would like to meet the lawn guy, however the big machine he rids on is scary. It reminds my of my arch nemesis the vacuum cleaner.   When I was rescued, I found out what hit me was a car. That was bad. After having doctors fix me up I have not looked back. I run, run, and run some more. I love to play ball in the back yard. I did have problems around cars. My loving fosters showed me it was no problem. They gave me bacon going into the car. I love bacon. Now I am excited to get in the car for a ride, especially for a pup cup. I love taking walks, I would prefer runs. My foster family does not run, I understand.  Oh I love my trainers, they were so good to me! When I was found, I did not know what to do when my fosters were talking to me. After two weeks away from my foster family I now understand. I can sit, go to place, lets go, and down like the best of them. I have a good life with my fosters and AARF. I am ready for my forever family. Will that be with you? ========================================================= Please contact  app@aarfhouston.org for more information about this dog. You can apply online by clicking on Application . Puppies that are under 4 months old cannot be adopted outside of our Veterinary Service area.  Please call for specific locations. Children under 8 years old often are not a good match for our puppies and dogs.   In order to protect both, your child and our rescued dogs/puppies from harm, we seldom if ever adopt to families with young children. Once your application is approved, we will schedule a meet and greet at one of our adoption events.  Thank you for considering a rescue! The adoption fee includes vaccinations, Bordetella, de-worming, rabies, spay/neuter and microchip. There is a an additional $12.99 fee for Home Again for a lifetime registration of the microchip. Puppies cannot be adopted outside of the Houston area until they are spay/neutered after they are 4 months old. It is against the law in the State of Texas for a rescue not to be sterilized so we have to make sure it gets completed and that we have record of it. NOTE: In our bios, we provide information based on our volunteer's experience with a particular dog; such as temperament, training, and ability to get along with others. AARF is a 501(c)3 Non Profit, all breed, no kill organization. Our group is always in need of donations in order to continue to give the needed medical care to our rescues. Adoption fees do not begin to cover all of the medical costs. Any donation , no matter how small is a big help and is greatly appreciated. Please help us to continue to help them. Thank you. Story
Est DOB: 1/8/22, GSD mix, male, currently 75 lbs +, neutered, up-to-date on all his vaccinations, heart-worm negative and microchipped Meet Haribo!  (Hari for short) This incredibly handsome boy was born into the rescue on Jan. 8, 2022.   He is a happy, goofy boy with a lot of personality.  Haribo and his sister Honor were both born with a congenital issue called Megaesophogus.  Basically his esophagus is too large to move food adequately from his mouth to his stomach so he just eats differently that others.     When it’s feeding time, Hari sits in a special chair called a Bailey chair.  Haribo is a clever boy who knows how to get into his chair for feeding times all on his own.   He does very well eating and sitting in the chair for 20 minutes afterwards.   He eats twice a day and has been eating Royal Canin.   Like his sister Honor,  his Megaesophogus is easily managed with an inexpensive drug called Sildenafil.  He gets 50 mg a day. (25 mg in the a.m. and p.m.)   Haribo is great on a leash, loves to play with his sister and likes to play fetch.  He loves getting attention and will nuzzle your hands to get a nice petting.  He likes walks around the lakes in his foster family’s neighborhood and is interested in the ducks and squirrels but doesn’t try to chase.  He is in a foster home with other dogs and school aged children that he does well with. Haribo is in a foster home with other dogs and school aged children that he does well with.  Please consider making this handsome boy a member of your family. As we are a foster based rescue, we do require a completed application to be submitted before we arrange a meet.  This can be found on our website at :  https://almosthomepetrescue.org/apply-now-1   $200 (including tax) adoption fee includes core vaccinations, rabies vaccination, heart worm test (in dogs over 6 months of age), microchip and registration, spay/neuter, wormer and flea and heart worm prevention while the dog is in our care. All breed and size categorizations are estimates. If transporting out of state, the total adoption cost will be $500. Story
Est DOB: 1/8/22, GSD mix, female, currently 75 lbs +, spayed, up-to-date on all her vaccinations, heart-worm negative and she is microchipped.   Meet Honor! Honor is a gorgeous girl who was born into the rescue on Jan. 8, 2022.  She has always been a happy, playful pup.  A few months after being born Honor was diagnosed with Megaesophogus, a condition that affects the way food moves from her mouth to her stomach.   Honor is just like any other dog except that she requires a special chair to sit in to eat.  She has her own Bailey chair that she is trained to get in and out of it on her own that would go with her to her new family.  She is a very smart girl and she does very well in her chair when she eats and stays for 20 minutes afterwards.    Honor eats twice a day and has been eating Royal Canin.   Honor’s Megaesophogus is easily managed with an inexpensive drug called Sildenafil.  She gets 50 mg. a day. (25 mg in the a.m. and p.m.)     Honor loves to play with her brother Haribo, who was also born with Megaesophogus.   She enjoys walks and taking little dips in her foster family’s pool.  Honor is affectionate, sweet and silly and likes to chase leaves and toss pine cones into the air.  She is smart and very attentive and would be an amazing addition to any family.   Honor is spayed, up-to-date on all her vaccinations, heart-worm negative and she is microchipped.   Please consider making this adorable girl a member of your family.
