Story
Rufus was found on the streets in South LA and came to us via our friends who originally found him. We have been fostering him for about 3 months and have gone through all of the steps to find the original owner who agreed to relinquish ownership. Rufus is approximately 1 ½ years old and is a Dutch Shepherd mix (probably lab) who weighs in at about 75 lbs. He is super friendly, intelligent, and has a great personality. He is very athletic and likes to play catch, play with his toys, go on walks and would love the companionship of other animals. He is also good with kids as we have seen him interact with young children on several occasions. He is house trained and knows most basic commands (sit, stay, down, shake, etc) and is well behaved at dog friendly bars & restaurants. He regularly gets treats bought for him! At nighttime he likes to curl up on the couch or even beat you to bed to get the best spot. He is neutered and is up to date on all the required vaccinations.

Story
Meet Ryder, a beautiful brindle puppy. He is about 4-5 months old and believed to be a mix of Labrador and Dutch Shepherd. He was running through the streets when luck was on his side, and a kind family scooped him up and kept him safe. He is a little shy at first, but is super sweet. Ryder is quickly learning that the world can be a fun place! He LOVES other dogs and kids. He is a fast learner and is already almost 100% potty trained. He is getting the hang of walking on a leash and is doing an amazing job as he explore the big world. He is a gentle, soft soul waiting to meet his forever family. Will you adopt this perfect addition to your family and add the most loving companion?

The cost of adopting a Dutch Shepherd is around $300, which covers the expenses of caring for the dog before adoption. In contrast, buying Dutch Shepherds from breeders can be prohibitively expensive. Depending on their breeding, they usually cost anywhere from $1,000 to $3,500.

Dutch Shepherd fun facts

Fun Facts:

In the 1800s, the Dutch Shepherd was allowed to be any color. But in 1914, when the breed standard was written, it was decreed that they must always be brindle so as to distinguish from the German Shepherd and the Belgian Shepherd.

Extremely intelligent, Dutch Shepherds are employed today as police and security dogs.

Dutch Shepherds are very rare, not only in the world but even in their native Netherlands.
