Introducing Zay! Zay came to APA from the Austin Animal Center. He was an owner surrender at AAC because he kept trying to escape his owner's yard. The former owner kept Zay as a backyard only dog for ten years and did not neuter him. Zay was neutered at AAC, which should decrease his inclination to roam. Zay did not have an optimal home environment for ten long years, unfortunately. But that life is now over! Zay is now house-trained, leash-trained, and he knows "sit" and "shake." He's very treat-motivated, and he warms up quickly to new people if tasty treats are involved! Zay is heartworm positive, which will be fully treated by APA. He was surrendered to us after escaping his yard one too many times and unfortunately getting hit by a car. Shelter life has been especially hard on Solovino. He had to spend several weeks on cage rest to heal after orthopedic surgery for a broken leg. Thankfully he`s done with physical therapy and easing back into regular activity, but as a young, active, social guy, he is ready to get out of the shelter and into a home. My foster Dad says I'm living life to the fullest and trying really hard at forgetting my first life. I'm still shy around some people but my foster has been teaching me to be less fearful of strangers. I would love you to help me with slow introductions when I meet new people. People always say how beautiful my brindle coat is. I'm very smart and will sit and speak for my treats, I am learning to play ball and will jump in the air to get it! I'm still working on the bring it back all the time, every time. But I'm working on it! I get along well with other dogs and I'm a great watch dog. I like to make sure my people are safe and taken care of. I love being outside in the sun and playing with my dog foster siblings or other dogs. I love the yard and think being outside is swell. When I come inside I'm a very good boy and don't get on the couch or jump on people. I do like to give little licks and kisses to the people I feel safe with. I have a zest for life and like to go for walks and runs and to play in the river. I'm potty trained and stay out during the day in the sunshine. I always try to ensure the squirrels know I'm the bosss. At night I like to sleep inside with my pals. Whoever adopts me will have to be a little patient and continue working with me on my shyness at times. New things are scary and I need you to show me it's going to be ok. My perfect home would have a nice, fenced yard, and maybe a doggy door so I can go in and out on my own. I'll probably do better with another dog in the household, I really like friends. I would love someone to play fetch with me or take me to the river and swim. I don't mind baths at all either, but I sure don't like cats! I like to keep my food just for me and don't really like to share. I know basic commands and will sit for a treat, or two. I would love to meet you and your resident dog and make some new friends!

Drake is a friendly, loving, cuddling, high-energy dog who loves to play fetch and splash in water! He’s great off a leash and can catch balls out of mid air. He is curious outside, but will come when called (even if he trots out the front door). We took him to dog parks, Yard Bar, on hiking trails, Zilker and have a daily ball-launcher fetch routine! If you’re looking for a dog to go exploring with who will plop his head in your lap in the evening then Drake is your dog! Sadly, I just got divorced so I feel guilty about how little I get to take him out, and my five young kids aren’t good about reading his body language and would very rarely get nipped at if they were jumping on top of him (though he’s typically very patient). If you adopt him, I can throw in a large steel crate toys and gear to play fetch with!

Hazel is a very attention seeking and loving dog. She has some separation anxiety and requires her own kennel and space. She is good with people & kids. She is very protective and walks by your side when on a leash. She is leash reactive with dogs, but when it is off, she is dog friendly and loves to run with other dogs to play. She loves to run & exercise to her hearts content. She loves car rides. If there is another dog in the home, she needs special one on one time. Hazel came from a great home, but she did not get along with the previous owners female dog and had to make the hard decision to surrender her in order to find the perfect fit.

Chase is a wonderful dog....he has all the physical characteristics of a Belgian Malinois...lanky and graceful...but not the high prey drive bred into this breed. Have you ever wanted to share your home with one of these magnificent dogs, but not the intense qualities that are chosen for drug detection work by the FBI. Chase is happy playing ball or going on a nice walk and then curling up to watch the FBI on tv with you, not engaging in going after criminals in real life.  He is gorgeous and fun, a super lovable lean and attractive doggy. Chase has glowing reports from his foster home. He loves car rides, is fully crate trained, quiet for a GSD breed! Super people and dog friendly. Chase came from Palm Valley where he was shutting down after being relinquished to the high kill shelter by his family. Like so many beautiful dogs, Chase did nothing wrong to be let down by his humans.  We have an excellent foster program which allows us to help another dog from another high kill area.
