We’re heartbroken to be rehoming him due to an international move to Portugal, where his size makes flying impossible. He deserves a home where he can keep thriving, adventuring and protecting the people he loves. The Tigger Experience: What Makes Him Incredible• A Loyalist Through and Through:  Tigger is the definition of “ride-or-die.” Once he bonds with you, he is all in—protective, affectionate on his own terms and happiest when he feels his people are safe.• Courage of a Warrior:  This is a dog who has literally treed a bear and taken on both a chainsaw and a weed-wacker (don’t ask—he was defending us from the Evil Noisy Machines™). His bravery is unmatched, and he takes his guardian role very seriously.• Born for Action:  Energetic and athletic, Tigger loves exploring, running, hiking and anything that gets him moving. He isn’t the best on-leash yet (think: eager freight train with enthusiasm), but with structure and consistency, he can improve.• A Goofy, Loving Soul Underneath the Grit:  For all his intensity, Tigger is full of heart. He’s expressive, smart and deeply connected to his people once he trusts them.Challenges & Honest Notes (Because the Right Home Matters)• Not a Fan of Small Dogs:  He got along great with larger dogs, but hated our corgi. Big-dog friends = yes. Small, bossy dogs = hard no.• Food Guarding Issues:  Tigger has some food protection tendencies. He needs a home familiar with managing resource-guarding or willing to work with a trainer.• Needs Leash Work & Strong Handling:  At 110 pounds of muscle and motivation, he needs a handler who is confident, consistent, and physically capable.Tigger’s Dream HomeTigger will thrive with: Someone experienced with working breeds A home with no small dogs (large dogs considered case-by-case) Adults or older teens in a calm but active environment A fenced yard or access to land where he can stretch his legs Someone who wants a fearless protector and loyal companion—not just a pet. He is NOT a couch-potato starter dog. He is, however, the kind of dog who will watch over you, adventure with you, and stick by your side with unwavering devotion.Contact me today at johnmtrimbleiii@gmail.com to meet or learn more about Tigger. All Mountain Pet Rescue (Asheville) animals are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed/neutered and micro-chipped before adoption. Contact the foster parent or Mountain Pet Rescue at pets@mpravl.org for more information. Please note that visual breed identification of companion animals has been proven to be unreliable, so for most of our animals we provide a best guess at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our animals as an individual and do our best to describe and place pets based on personality not breed label. Mountain Pet Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit tax deductible charity (EIN 82-3039637) located in Asheville, NC. January 7, 2026, 1:24 am

Story
Meet Tigger — part athlete, part bodyguard, part goofball. Tigger is a nearly 5-year-old, 110-lb Dutch Shepherd looking for a new home only because we’re moving to Portugal and he’s too big to fly. Tigger is high-energy, outdoorsy, and stupid loyal to his people. He loves to stay active and takes his role as “family protector” very seriously. Leash skills are a work in progress (think enthusiastic freight train), but his heart is always in the right place. He’s famously brave — he’s treed a bear and has valiantly battled chainsaws and weed-whackers to protect his humans. Underneath the tough guy act is a fun, expressive dog who bonds deeply with his people. Tigger does well with larger dogs, but no small dogs please (our corgi would agree). He has some food-guarding habits, so he needs a confident, experienced owner. Best fit: active home, strong leadership, big-dog lovers only. Tigger isn’t just a dog — he’s a legend in a fur coat.
