**** Breed Experience or similar breed experience will only be considered***Name: HannahBreed: Dutch Shepherd MixAge: Under 2 years oldKids: 12+ Cats: NoDogs: NoHold onto your hearts, Hannah is hard not to fall in love with!! This beautiful girl came to MHS as a transfer from a local animal control partner. Hannah is estimated to be a little over a year old and has an equal amount of boundless energy as she has love to give!Hannah will require a home with Shepherd/Belgian Malinois, or similar breed experience. Hannah is extremely smart and loyal to her people, this girl knows all the basic commands, and then some! Hannah has a ton of energy so will require an active home that will give her a job to do to prevent boredom, and a home preferably with a fenced in yard so she can get all her energy out.Hannah does have a tendency to jump very high when she's excited and wants to say hello, so we are seeking a home with older, breed savvy children. Hannah would prefer a home without any other animals.Hannah is microchipped, UTD on her vaccinations, and is spayed. If you think you can give Hannah her forever home, please fill out an adoption application today!!!https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=meridenhumanesociety&method=online_form_html&formid=27

Story
My name is Lil Man aka Deuce. Deuce for two since I'm getting a second chance at life after being in the shelter. My foster Dad says I'm living life to the fullest and trying really hard at forgetting my first life. I'm still shy around some people but my foster has been teaching me to be less fearful of strangers. I would love you to help me with slow introductions when I meet new people. People always say how beautiful my brindle coat is. I'm very smart and will sit and speak for my treats, I am learning to play ball and will jump in the air to get it! I'm still working on the bring it back all the time, every time. But I'm working on it! I get along well with other dogs and I'm a great watch dog. I like to make sure my people are safe and taken care of. I love being outside in the sun and playing with my dog foster siblings or other dogs. I love the yard and think being outside is swell. When I come inside I'm a very good boy and don't get on the couch or jump on people. I do like to give little licks and kisses to the people I feel safe with. I have a zest for life and like to go for walks and runs and to play in the river. I'm potty trained and stay out during the day in the sunshine. I always try to ensure the squirrels know I'm the bosss. At night I like to sleep inside with my pals. Whoever adopts me will have to be a little patient and continue working with me on my shyness at times. New things are scary and I need you to show me it's going to be ok. My perfect home would have a nice, fenced yard, and maybe a doggy door so I can go in and out on my own. I'll probably do better with another dog in the household, I really like friends. I would love someone to play fetch with me or take me to the river and swim. I don't mind baths at all either, but I sure don't like cats! I like to keep my food just for me and don't really like to share. I know basic commands and will sit for a treat, or two. I would love to meet you and your resident dog and make some new friends!

Story
Hello! My name is Murphy, or Murph for short. Here are some reasons why I am the best boy and would be a great addition to your home: 1. I LOVE to snuggle. I try to be as close to everyone as possible at all times 2. I am cat tested. The cat in my foster home likes to chase and surprise me- I am curious about the cat and respond well when tempted. I even try to play 3. I am potty trained- not one single accident! 4. I am crate trained however; I’d much prefer to sleep where everyone else is. My foster mom says I’m too big for the bed. I know how to escape wire crates using my nose (I’m smart, not destructive) so I require a crate that is secured or enclosed 5. I play SO well with my foster friends. I live with 5 friends currently and get along well with everyone 6. I do best with a buddy. I am scared when left all alone and vocalize that to my foster mom. I prefer to be able to see or hear where my friends or humans are 7. I am not shy to food. I am working on gaining some muscle mass after my shelter stay. My foster mom says I am filling out to be a healthy and strong boy! 8. I LOVE toys. I am a strong chewer so I require toys that can withstand my power March 10, 2025, 4:47 pm

Story
Good boy Larry is about a year old and of love and joy. This energetic fellow will do best in an active home where he can get lots of walkies, hiking, maybe a jog here and there. If your New Year's Resolution is to get in better shape / lose weight, this boy will be 100% dedicated to keeping you on track!! We haven't tested him cats, but we think he'll probably be best in a cat free home. Most likely, the felines of the world will appreciate our caution. Larry is good with kiddos and all ages of nice humans that he meets. He might be a little overwhelming for a home with very new humans, but he'll be perfect for a home with older kiddos who will help in keeping him busy. He would LOVE to have a home where he can chase ball, catch frisbee, take a swim in the summer.....all the fun things that all the fun dogs and humans enjoy! If you're ready to get in shape and exercise your worries and weight away, hop on over to www.cprdogs.com for our online application. Larry is spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and current on flea/tick and heartworm preventative. All dogs 6 month + receive a Proheart 6 injection at the time of their heartworm test. This provides heartworm prevention for 6 months from the time of that injection. This dog has tested positive for heartworms, but has been fully treated. The adoption fee is $450 if your adoption is prepaid and final prior to your dog's arrival. An additional $50 will be charged on dogs that are picked up from our Southbury CT adoption center, adopted at an event, or foster home. This additional fee is necessary in order to comply with CT HB 5368. WANT TO MEET OUR DOGS IN PERSON? Check the Events tab on cprdogs.com for all weekend adoption event info. The majority of the dogs marked as 'meet me' will be there to see you! If you are a MA resident, your new family member is required to go through a mandatory 48 hour quarantine period at our Woburn MA isolation facility. Your new family member will be dropped off by our transport on Thursday and will be ready for you to pick him/her up on Saturday between 11 am-1 pm. An additional $100 fee will be added for any dogs picked up from the Woburn MA quarantine facility. This additional fee is necessary in order to comply with MA Order 405-CD-12 and Order 1-AHO-05. TO APPLY PLEASE GO TO www.cprdogs.com. If your application was successfully submitted you will get a confirmation. Please DO NOT USE the ADOPTAPET "CONTACT THIS RESCUE GROUP" form below or you may not hear from us as these often end up in spam or bouncing back. After receipt of your application, an adoption counselor will then be in touch to answer your questions about this pup, discuss the adoption process and get the ball rolling! Story
April is an energetic, focused, and loyal dog who loves to play frisbee and tug. She is good on the leash, but likes to take the lead. She likes to play in the yard, but has a tendency to police other dogs outside as well, so she does best playing outside with you alone. She is great with cats! She is a velcro dog and will follow you around the house and outside and likes to be involved. She is an observer and spends a lot of time watching those around her (people and dogs). May is more reserved but loves affection and is also very loyal to her owner(s). She will follow you around and watch what you're doing all the time. She is great on the leash. She is also a great running partner. She is great outside and goes crazy for the ball - she has a tendency to chomp, so we play carefully. Play motivated for sure. Mostly ok with the cats, though she will occasionally pounce to play. She is timid in public and does not really enjoy the company of dogs other than her sister.

Story
Natasha is a beauty who was abandoned. When we found her, she was suffering from Demodex mange due to the stressful living situations at the pound. CPR has taken her in, given her medications, medicated baths, nutritious foods, and showed her plenty of love and attention which has gotten her to where she is today. You would never know that she had suffered any hair loss! What a stunning girl she is!!! She is doing so well in her foster home getting along with all the other dogs/fosters. She loves to follow around her foster mom's dog and learn how to be a house dog like she is supposed to be. She has learned to use a doggie door and is learning her house manners. Working on potty-training. She is crate-trained. Natasha is very loving and seeks to please. She would make a great addition to any sized family. She is working on leash walking and is doing a great job! If you are interested in adopting this great girl, go ahead and apply for her today. This puppy Is spayed/neutered, up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, treated for all of the intestinal parasites, and current on flea/tick and heartworm preventative. Because intestinal parasites are cyclical, your puppy may need additional treatment once you get him/her home. This is common and nothing to be alarmed about. Puppies and dogs need to be treated periodically for parasites throughout their entire lives. The adoption fee is $550 if your adoption is prepaid prior to your pup's arrival. An additional $50 will be charged on puppies that are picked up from our Southbury CT adoption center, adopted at an event, or foster home. This additional fee is necessary in order to comply with CT HB 5368. WANT TO MEET OUR DOGS IN PERSON? Check the Events tab on cprdogs.com for all weekend adoption event info. The majority of the dogs marked as 'meet me' will be there to see you! More and more of our adopters are having fun with DNA tests on their pups. You might ask yourself why our breed guess is varying degrees of difference from the DNA tests. Most of our puppies are rescued from high kill shelters or other abandonment situations and we have no info on parents. When we rescue puppies that have no background info, we make our very best educated guess as to breed mix and age. Our guesstimate comes from years and years and years of animal welfare work and training, but our guesses won't always agree with your vet, your neighbor, your DNA test, etc. The most important thing to know about your puppy's breed mix is that most likely he/she is a Super Lovable Mutt made of many many many different breeds. If you are a MA resident, your new family member is required to go through a mandatory 48 hour quarantine period at the Woburn MA isolation facility. Your new family member will be dropped off by our transport on Thursday and will be ready for you to pick him/her up on Saturday between 11 am-1 pm. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All dogs are located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We p ost in east coast states and Canada as we have many families adopt and are happy to make the worthwhile trip up to the rescue. We do not always have time to post all the pictures on each dogs individual page, but we do post a lot of photo's on the rescue Facebook page. DeeDee is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, monthly preventatives, heartworm and tick disease tested negative and is microchipped with 24PetWatch. She has an estimated date of birth of September 2023 and on 22 September weighed 50 pounds. We have no way of knowing the breed, it is up to individuals to look at the pictures and videos to make up their own mind. Beautiful DeeDee has been at the rescue since 24 September 2024 and although she has had some families interested in her, they really didn't have the lifestyle or understanding for what she needs. DeeDee was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas with her sister Dolly who is also still here at the rescue, but is living in the house as I felt it best to separate them to get them used to not being together. At the shelter both girls were terrified of being in a strange, loud, busy unknown environment and when they first arrived at the rescue they was equally as scared, which is totally understandable. After a few weeks their confidence grew as they felt safe and made friends with the other dogs to where now at the rescue they play well with the other dogs, they are relaxed and happy. DeeDee did have a meet and greet about a month ago and taking her out of her environment with the other dogs and to the top of the drive where she had not been and was alone, she again became very scared. I do want to say she has NEVER been aggressive in any way shape or form, she is just scared in new environments and situations. This is not a negative and should be understood, she has most likely never been on her own, not had a great start to life ending up in a high kill shelter at a year old with her sister, but by watching the videos on her page on the rescue website and looking through the photo's you can clearly see that when she is comfortable and feels safe she is a happy confident girl - she just needs a family who understands this and will go slow with her and let her adjust at her pace. At the rescue as mentioned she is a confident girl, she will run up to the gate and bark at cars coming down the drive, she can be vocal when people come to volunteer, however she is in a kennel environment and so all the dogs bark when people come in - she can be a little mouthy with people, which should be expected from the breed and is easy to work on, she doesn't do it all the time. She is extremely affectionate and craves for love and attention and would be a great family dog, as long as she is given that time to understand she is in a safe place with a loving family. I have not had around small children but personally would have no concerns as long as the children respect her space and do not do anything to make her feel unsafe or threatened, which is standard for all dogs. I do not know how she would be around cats, I am sure she would be curious and it is important for families to ensure that cats have a safe place they can get to and of course slow, controlled introductions. Then of course this sweet girl needs a family that understands the breed in that she needs a structured active life, with lots of mental stimulation and challenges as the physical exercise. She would be great with another dog in the family and has never had any issues with the dogs she lives with here at the rescue, which includes being around 3 month old puppies. Overall she is an incredibly sweet, gentle affectionate girl who needs a loving, understanding active family that will give her time to adjust and trust so that this beautiful, active personality can come back out. The shelter noted the following on 2 September about both girls who were taken to the play group individually: Not feeling quite confident on the leash yet, was carried to the yard. She wasn't feeling confident enough to join in with the others at this time. She was standoffish and could feel overwhelmed at times.   Kennel visit - 5 September Stayed on bed and was licking my hands but when I went to pet her she kept flinching and moving her head. Got off the bed and continued to lick hands but still flinched when tried to pet her. We are looking for families that have the lifestyle that the dog needs to lead a healthy, both mentally and physically life, who can afford a GOOD quality food, toys and treats and understand the importance of veterinary wellness checks.  She does need an active family who will ensure she gets all the exercise, both mentally and physically that she needs to live a happy fulfilling life.
