Story
Hi, I'm JoJo! I'm a 2 year old Dutch Shepherd mix. I'm as loveable as can be and am such a good boy! I get along great with other dogs, walk okay on a leash, and am even potty-trained. I need a home without cats though as I like to chase them. I'm in a foster home and patiently waiting for my chance at a forever home.  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2684105##

Story
I adopted this little guy in LA last year. He's a really sweet dog. At first he was wild and injured my shoulder. After that I went through training with him and he cleared up a ton! Its just that now after I moved here for work, he developed this separation anxiety I can't really take care of due to my work commitments and other stuff like going to the gym. Pair that with him living in a cramped apartment - this poor little guy deserves better than what I can provide. He is super cuddly and curious. Anytime he hears someone new on a call he joins and watches them. He'd always be with me in the kitchen when I'd cook and give me puppy-eyes for a sample. He doesn't pull when I walk him. He loves to cuddle. He has never had a history of being aggressive towards other dogs. He knows the commands: sit, lay down, poop (yes he poops on command) and reluctantly does 'go' when you point somewhere. He comes with a month of food, treats, toys, & a crate. He deserves a good life :(

Story
Scamp was born 12/30/2021, I got him March 2022. He will be 5 this December. He is the most well socialized dog. He has been around all kind of cats, other dogs, he’s a very well travel dog, and very good road companion. He loves kids, and people. A total of 6 times over the years, he’s been weary of certain men, but he is absolutely loving of the other hundreds of people he’s met. He is submissive with some dogs, and rambunctious with others, he truly “matches energy” at play time. He is potty trained, I have been far too busy, so he has had some accidents but under normal circumstances he’s fully potty trained, it’s truly been my failing and not his. That is part of what has brought me to the heartbreaking decision to let him find a better owner. He deserves the world, and I am just drowning right now. He eats open farm dog food, it’s a “grade A” formula and it works really well for him. He is kennel trained, but will also cuddle if you allow him.

Story
"Meet your new shadow – Bridie 💕 This stunning, 55-lbs, brindle beauty is a 1–2 year old Dutch Shepherd with a heart as big as her ears are alert. She’s the definition of a Velcro dog — if you’ve ever wanted a loyal sidekick who thinks you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to Earth… congratulations, you’ve met your girl. ✨ The Good Stuff: Absolutely adores humans (big fan of her people) Potty trained ✔️ Loves toys — squeaky, tug, toss… yes please! Couch privilege is non-negotiable (she’s a professional snuggler) Will happily follow you from room to room as your devoted assistant 🐾 Dog Skills: She’s dog selective and prefers slow, proper introductions. She may thrive as your one-and-only or with the right respectful canine match. 💛 Her Heart: She bonds deeply and loves being close. She does experience some separation anxiety, but she’s working hard on building confidence and making progress every day. She would do best with a mom or dad who is home more often than not and committed to continuing her growth. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving, brindle best friend who wants nothing more than to be your shadow (and share your couch), she’s ready to clock in for lifetime duty. 🐾 Your home. Her heart. Forever." Story
Animal Rescue of the Rockies believes every pet should find a wonderful and caring home. To ensure Amber Lynn finds the best possible home, we ask you fill out our adoption application so we can learn more about you and your household. We review each application in the order submitted and will contact you within 48 hours  (please check your spam folder for our emails) .   Amber Lynn | 1-Year-Old Shepherd Mix | Gentle Soul Learning to Trust Amber Lynn is a 1-year-old, 35-pound black-and-brown shepherd mix with a beautiful coat and a soft, sensitive heart. She is a sweet, calm, and friendly young dog who is still learning that the world—and people—can be kind. Amber Lynn is house trained and uses a doggie door, with little to no accidents, though as with any dog, occasional accidents can happen when adjusting to a new environment. She settles well and sleeps soundly through the night - she loves climbing into bed with her foster sister to cuddle and snooze through the night. She does great when left alone for short periods (up to about two hours) with other dogs in the house. Amber Lynn has positive interactions with other dogs of all sizes and especially enjoys playing with them outside. Given her history of living with many dogs, she seems to take comfort in canine companionship and would likely do best in a home with another dog. She has not met cats yet. She does well with older children and has been comfortable around kids ages 10 and up. While she was initially more comfortable with women, she has warmed up nicely to men and now enjoys quiet couch time and gentle affection from her foster family. Leashes are still a work in progress for Amber Lynn and currently feel overwhelming for her, but her foster plans to start gently introducing leash training. She has a medium energy level—happy with short bursts of activity and play, followed by plenty of downtime and naps. She knows basic cues like “come” and “no,” responds well to structure, and is motivated by both food and affection. She loves treats (especially gravy-flavored milk bones) but hasn’t quite discovered a favorite toy yet. Amber Lynn can be shy and a bit nervous, especially with certain types of touch, and may back away at first. However, when given time and space, she shows just how affectionate she can be—resting her head on your lap, snuggling on the couch, and curling up close to her canine companion at bedtime. She has made steady progress since coming into foster care and continues to grow more confident each day. Occasionally, she may chew on things when left alone, though this happens infrequently. Her ideal home would be a patient, calm household with another dog and a yard, where she can continue building confidence at her own pace and enjoy a lifetime of gentle love and companionship.   If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives!  A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you.  The adoption fee for this pet is $375. Our adoption fee covers the following: Spay/neuter Microchip DAPP vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog.  Rabies vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Adopters shall be responsible for all vaccinations after adoption. Please fill out an adoption application by clicking  here . Please give us 48 hours to review your application and respond to you. (Remember to check your spam folder for our emails!) We want our pets to go to a lifelong new home, so thank you for your patience during the adoption process! We review each application in the order submitted and will contact you within 48 hours  (please check your spam folder for our emails) .   Left Eye | 8-Year-Old Collie/Shepherd Mix | Gentle Couch Companion Left Eye is an 8-year-old Collie/Shepherd mix weighing about 29 pounds, with a beautiful black-and-white coat and a calm, gentle personality. She’s a quiet, sweet girl who enjoys a peaceful lifestyle and would be happiest in a home that appreciates slow days, cozy naps, and a loyal companion nearby. Left Eye is house trained and very easygoing in the home. If given the choice, she would happily spend most of the day curled up in her bed. She enjoys short walks around the block but isn’t interested in long outings—once she realizes she’s heading back home, she’s usually eager to return to her favorite resting spot. She has had positive, submissive interactions with other dogs and passes them calmly on walks. However, she is not a good match for homes with cats, as she has shown signs of cat aggression, including chasing and lunging. Left Eye can be shy at first, especially with men, but with patience she warms up and becomes a gentle, affectionate companion who enjoys belly rubs and quiet time near her people. Left Eye also has a playful side and enjoys soft squeaky toys, often carrying them around the house and taking them to bed with her at night. She may whine or howl when left alone, so she would do best in a home where someone is around most of the time or can bring her along for outings. Left Eye’s ideal home is with someone looking for a calm, loving companion and a relaxed pace of life. She doesn’t ask for much beyond love, patience, and a comfortable place to nap, and in return she’ll offer sweet companionship and a devoted heart.   If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth.   Animal Rescue of the Rockies believes every pet should find a wonderful and caring home. To ensure T-bone #1 finds the best possible home, we ask you fill out our adoption application so we can learn more about you and your household. We review each application in the order submitted and will contact you within 48 hours  (please check your spam folder for our emails) .   T-bone | 8-year-old Mixed Breed | Cozy Couch Companion with a Silly Trot T-bone is an 8-year-old, 32-pound tricolor sweetheart who has fully embraced the good life—soft couches, gentle routines, and plenty of love. She’s a low-energy girl who enjoys short walks, a bit of sniffing around the neighborhood, and then it’s right back to her favorite spot on the couch. In fact, she has an adorable habit of trotting quickly toward home at the end of walks, clearly eager to get back to her cozy place! She is pretty much fully house trained with little to no accidents and does well with a consistent potty routine. T-bone walks nicely on leash overall, though she may pull a bit at times. She can be left home alone for several hours and, while she may whine initially, she settles down and is not destructive. She’s also comfortable with a kennel when needed, especially with a little encouragement (and treats), though she much prefers snoozing outside of it. T-bone is a people-loving pup who enjoys affection and will happily rest her head on you or offer her paw to ask for more pets. She’s motivated by both food and love, with favorites like chicken and cheese earning her full attention. She also enjoys being brushed and taking in all the interesting smells on her walks. She coexists well with cats and generally ignores them, even in situations involving food or treats. However, T-bone would do best as the only dog in the home. While she mostly ignores other dogs, she has shown some jealousy when attention is directed elsewhere and may growl in those situations. T-bone would thrive in a calm, loving home without a lot of stairs, where she can relax, feel secure, and soak up all the affection she deserves. She may need a little patience when left alone and continued guidance around boundaries, but her easygoing, sweet nature makes her a wonderful companion. She also does best with softened food due to some dental sensitivity. If you’re looking for a loyal, laid-back companion who just wants to be near you (preferably on the couch), T-bone might be your perfect match.     If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth.
