Max is a mellow and cheerful young pup with loving nature. He is close to humans, always greet people with a big smile and non-stop wagging tail and hip. He is super smart and aimed to please, so is easy to train. Around the house he obeys rules, has good judgement, and good self-discipline. He loves the head/tummy rubs and cuddling that follows. He loves to eat and gets excited before taking a walk, but will heed to command well. Story
This animal is available at: Sonoma County Animal Services (707) 565-7100 PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT NORTH BAY Duke A427772   Located At: Sonoma County Animal Services   Description: I am a neutered male, black Dutch Shepherd mix.   Age: I am estimated to be about 1 year and 2 months old.   Weight: I weigh approximately 68 pounds.   More Info: I have been at the shelter since Jul 13, 2024.   Meet Duke, a charming mixed breed brimming with potential! When he is first introduced, he greets with an enthusiastic wag of his tail, but sometimes his nerves kick, revealing his sweet but timid nature. Once leashed, Duke hesitates, pulling back slightly in his kennel, yet he walks nicely with a bit of gentle encouragement, occasionally stopping to take in his surroundings. Affectionate and responsive, he comes up for pets and allows handling, though he is easily distracted by the sights and sounds around him. While he shows curiosity about toys, he doesn’t quite engage with them just yet. Duke remains calm during food interactions and initially displays some apprehension when meeting another dog, but soon relaxes into friendly sniffing. With continued socialization and training, Duke is sure to thrive and become a wonderful companion for a patient and loving adopter ready to help him build his confidence.  For more information about this animal, call:Sonoma County Animal Services at (707) 565-71001247 Century Court, Santa Rosa Tuesday - Saturday12:00 - 5:00 p.m.Adoptions are processed until 4:30 p.m.October 27, 2024, 11:17 pm

Story
10/31/24 10:48Reason animal needs rescue: Has been in shelter over 90 days and improved drastically but is still looked over.Type: Length of StayImpound type: StrayAdditional notes: When Velma came in initially, she was very fearful. Volunteers and staff spent time helping her build confidence by having her in dog playgroups and doing lots of positive reinforcement. She has come very far and she deserves to go to a home after being here since June.08/19/24 14:59Dog behavior has improved. Inside of kennel when split from other dog inside of kennel, I am able to leash as she is now approaching the kennel door and bows her head to get leashed and is no longer biting at leash or displaying any aggressive behavior. She does not hesitate to come out of kennel and once she was outside I was able to do a full and invasive handling. She did well with me checking her teeth, pickiing up her front and back paw, checking and pulling her ears, petting her stomach and even allowed me to pick her up . She seeks attention when called with a low tail wag, a submissive head bow, a relaxed mouth and calm eyes. When walking around she ignored other dogs barking at her and just sniffed around with a calm body posture. LB07/09/24 15:58Since sharing a kennel with other dog has been getting better inside the kennel, comes when called and will lick hand. When I split them up and tried to leash her by herself her behavior went back to biting, striking, and jumping at leash. She eventually was leashed and froze again and did not want to getout of kennel. I then left the leash on and lifted the divider so the other dog can calm her down. I then split them up and tried to pull her out again and she went out without an issue, walked around and sniffed. I did basic petting and put dog back. Use caution when leashing. LB07/02/24 08:27ON June 27, Dog was at back of kennel, trying to bite leash when I tossed it in first time, shaking, lip licking, puckeing lips. Had to lasso to leash and once leashed she freezes and did not want to move out of kennel. Showed her another dog she came in with and was more motivated to go outside of her kennel. Outside of her kennel she is tail tucked but had no dilated eyes, relaxed mouth, rubbing on the dog she came in with. When getting overwhelmed she went under the legs of a volunteer who was sitting near by. Only able to do basic petting on back, not able to fully r

Story
Obie (short for Old Boy) is a sweet old boy looking for a comfy couch to call his own. He has a beautiful fluffy coat that he enjoys a nice brushing of. Obie is a quiet and dignified couch potato. He is fine with everyone but particularly loves men. He loves ear scratches and a nice snooze. Obie is currently on medication for seizures. He takes this medication twice a day and it has greatly reduced his occurrence of seizures. He takes his medications easily if hidden in cream cheese, sour cream or yogurt. Obie is house trained with a doggie door right now. He enjoys spending his afternoons outside relaxing. He can be scared by loud things like fireworks but has done well with CBD as needed for this very specific anxiety. Obie does not really care for treats or toys. Treats he has enjoyed for training include lamb roast, mashed potatoes and eggs. He thinks vegetables are yucky. He seems to have been new to dog food but has taken to it well with some patience. Obie currently lives with another large dog and gets along well with her. She will even snap at him sometimes and he will not really react. He simply wants to be her friend. We also believe Obie will be fine with mannerly children. He has met toddlers and takes care to not knock them over. When meeting cats indoors, Obie was excited but did not necessarily exhibit high prey drive. He allowed his foster mom to call him back as she removed the cat. When he sees cats outdoors he like to try to chase them, though this is true of most dogs (even those that live with cats). All Better World Rescue dogs qualify for private and/or group training at no additional cost to help ensure a successful adoption. To meet Obie, fill out our short adoption application: www.betterworldrescue.org/adoption-application Once an application is filled out, our volunteers will reach out to you within one business day to answer any questions and schedule a meet and greet.

Story
I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereHello from Milo! Milo is a gentle and loving soul. This sweet boy may have had a rough start in life, but he has made tremendous strides in improving his social abilities in his foster home. He was once fearful and nervous around new situations and people. Now, he eagerly welcomes guests to his home, wagging his tail in excitement for some tasty treats. He's even conquered his fear of passing strangers on the leash! (He still may have some stranger danger but it's getting better every day.) Fosters have reported that Milo is a playful and healthy pup who loves nothing more than being outside, playing, and exploring with his furry foster doggie siblings. He's full of affection and adores being petted, and his favorite place to cuddle up is right next to his beloved humans on the bed. His foster family calls him "Sunny Boy"! Milo is a good sleeper, sleeping soundly through the night, too. Milo will thrive in a calm and quiet household and environment, with routine and consistency so that he can continue to feel safe. He has learned to be a more confident dog! While Milo's past makes it hard to predict how he'll react around children or cats, one thing is for sure: this dog is full of love and loyalty, waiting for the perfect family to give him the love and care he deserves. With his good nature and willingness to learn, Milo is ready to be a faithful companion for life. Could you be the one to give him the loving home he's been waiting for? Milo is about 3 years old and weighs 59 lbs. He would prefer a quiet and adult-only home at this time. Don't let his senior status fool you; full of life, this pup is far from retirement and maintains excellent mobility, hearing, and eyesight. He relishes going on walks, car rides, and is always eager for new adventures, such as exploring the coastal trail at Half Moon Bay or hiking on local nature trails. His current routine includes two daily walks around the neighborhood and mental exercises to keep him healthy and content. He reveals his playful side when pouncing on plush squeaking toys or zooming around the yard. Max has mastered many new skills, proving that older dogs are both capable and intelligent. He is crate trained, and understands numerous commands and associated hand signals. Max is highly food motivated and fearlessly attempts anything for treats, from navigating a long tunnel to jumping over small objects. His food motivation aids in his training and eagerness to learn new tricks. Max resides in a suburban foster home with a yard enclosed by a 6-foot fence, where he enjoys a balance of indoor and outdoor time. While Max prefers to be the sole focus of attention, he has enjoyed a few playdates with select tolerant dogs.  If you're searching for a truly remarkable companion with a sweet and affectionate demeanor, look no further than Max. I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. She now lives in a 1 bedroom apartment with her foster mom and dad and enjoys lounging at home or being out on an adventure. She is a medium energy GSD who is easily tired with some fetch or running with other dogs. She is house trained, is fine being left alone, rides calmly in cars, and walks nicely on leash. Amana is very smart and picks up new commands quickly. She has learned sit, down, stay, come, leave it, take it, paw, up, back up, and off. She has prey drive so should go to a cat-free household.
