Max is a mellow and cheerful young pup with loving nature. He is close to humans, always greet people with a big smile and non-stop wagging tail and hip. He is super smart and aimed to please, so is easy to train. Around the house he obeys rules, has good judgement, and good self-discipline. He waits patiently before eating his food, before going thru doorways, and when getting in and out of the car. He checks-in often with his human, sitting very still and gazing up politely. He loves the head/tummy rubs and cuddling that follows. He loves to eat and gets excited before taking a walk, but will heed to command well. Max is crate trained to sleep overnight and potty trained to go outside. His favorite pastime is his daily walks, and romping around with doggie friends in the park. About Max’ rescue: Max was one of the lucky TNR (trap/neuter/release) shelter dogs that was bailed out by the rescuer before his scheduled release date. Story
Lucille is a 4-year female Dutch Shepherd mix, about 70 pounds, and might just be the softest dog in the world! She loves to cuddle with her humans, shred cardboard boxes, and play with hoses. She's sweet, loyal, and affectionate, though can be shy at first with new people. Once she warms up to you, she is so loving and appreciates spending quality time together. Lucille thrives in a household with structure and routine and is used to being left at home while her humans are at work, etc. She is smart, learns quickly, is housebroken, leash-trained, has some crate training, and knows basic commands (sit, stay, down, touch, leave it, paw, come, place). Lucille likes long walks but is not high-energy. She has anxiety that is well-managed with a daily established medication regimen. She will do best being the single pet in a household, which is the only reason why she needs a new home that is a better fit for her. We will discuss subsidizing some meds and potential training with applicants.

12/16/24 01:46Doggy Day Out Report:Today I got to go on Doggie Day Out! I was patient while my friend harnessed me and was ready to go on an adventure with the help of a boost into the car. My new friend took me to a busy park where there was so much to see, I couldn’t take it all in fast enough! I needed to stop and absorb all the sights and moving parts. My friend thought I’d enjoy myself more somewhere quieter, so she took me on a nice long walk in a neighborhood. I loved my long walk! There was a lot to see and smell and observe. I walked nicely on the leash and passed people and dogs politely. Afterwards, my friend surprised me with a tasty pup cup! Three Words to Describe Me are: Sweet, Gentle, CuriousNotes from My Walker: I had a nice day with Rosie! She’s a beautiful, sweet girl. She was excited to get going, but fairly easy to harness. She was interested in the car but needed a boost onto the seat and then sat and looked out the front window.We started at Almaden Lake Park, but the very busy trail was a bit too much for Roxie and she wanted to constantly stop and observe all the movement. We opted for a neighborhood walk and that was much more her speed! She walks nicely on the harness and passes people and dogs politely. She’s very curious and wants to observe everything that moves. She checked in regularly and leans against you for pets. Roxie would love a home to continue to expose her to the great big world! She’s a sweet, social girl with people and dogs and would make a great companion.

Story
Bentley is a 1.5-year old male Dutch Shepherd mix youngster (most likely Belgian Malinois) who was picked up as a stray by Stanislaus Animal Services. This poor puppy was so traumatized at the time of intake, but is now safe with rescue in a wonderful foster home, where he can decompress and begin to feel safe and loved.  Bentley is a sweet little boy, and didn’t hesitate to come to our volunteer upon first greeting.  He is now fully crate trained, and does well with other dogs. Initially, he was very shy when meeting other dogs, but has become a pretty confident pup, and loves to run and play.  His first night in his foster home, he slept in his crate all night with no issues. He loves his people and at times wants to be right next to you, waiting for pets and lovin. Bentley will require a committed and loving human who will make him a part of the family, providing the care and attention that every young pup needs. Only older dog-savvy children 8 and above in an adoptive home will be considered. It will be necessary for an adopter to have recent successful experience in raising a GSD, Belgian Malinois, Dutch Shepherd, or other large breed working puppy. An adopter who will begin and continue his obedience training based upon positive reinforcement is recommended, including positive steps to discourage unwanted behavior, to ensure he remains on the path of a well-behaved canine companion. Story
Obie (short for Old Boy) is a sweet old boy looking for a comfy couch to call his own. He has a beautiful fluffy coat that he enjoys a nice brushing of. Obie is a quiet and dignified couch potato. He is fine with everyone but particularly loves men. He loves ear scratches and a nice snooze. Obie is currently on medication for seizures. He takes this medication twice a day and it has greatly reduced his occurrence of seizures. He takes his medications easily if hidden in cream cheese, sour cream or yogurt. Obie is house trained with a doggie door right now. He enjoys spending his afternoons outside relaxing. He can be scared by loud things like fireworks but has done well with CBD as needed for this very specific anxiety. Obie does not really care for treats or toys. Treats he has enjoyed for training include lamb roast, mashed potatoes and eggs. He thinks vegetables are yucky. He seems to have been new to dog food but has taken to it well with some patience. Obie previously lived with another large dog and got along well with her. She would even snap at him sometimes and he would not really react. He simply wanted to be her friend. We also believe Obie will be fine with mannerly children. He has met toddlers and takes care to not knock them over. When meeting cats indoors, Obie was excited but did not necessarily exhibit high prey drive. He allowed his foster mom to call him back as she removed the cat. When he sees cats outdoors he like to try to chase them, though this is true of most dogs (even those that live with cats). All Better World Rescue dogs qualify for private and/or group training at no additional cost to help ensure a successful adoption. We got him from the animal shelter in Modesto. He seems to have possession aggression and would need someone with the time and experience. The shelter said he was 3 but we think he might be younger. He gets along well with dogs. He doesn’t listen to anyone so I strongly recommend someone that will put in the effort he needs

Max (watch my video!) was at a distant overcrowded shelter for over a month when his time was up. He had no options left so we rescued him. All the volunteers adore him. Despite having no walks from his shelter kennel once out he is well behaved and great with other large dogs he met at the shelter and volunteers. He needs time to warm up and feel safe then cooperative loves treats and is lovable. Smart and gorgeous. Max did great during his transport car ride but once at a new place he was nervous and confused. Did take treats. Once he knows you he will be your best friend and bodyguard. Max will need an experienced guardian and a home with a yard. For now no kids. More info. to come as he relaxes and learns. 7/1/22: He is now doing great at his foster home with 2 other GSDs. With time he adjusted to new people at home. He is still leary of of strangers. Bonded to his foster mom. Loves his walks/hikes playing ball and relaxing at his foster home. 9/12/21: Sadly when his potential foster home and her 2 GSDs during their two meets her female GSD did not work out with him. The female is less tolerant of new dogs and wants to be the top dog. Max did great with her male dog and social. He loves treats snuggled being petted and enjoyed the attention. Need basic leash training. Poor Max will continue to board until we can find him an experienced foster home that will give him time to warm up and feel safe. Max is boarding until we can find him an experienced and dedicated foster home. Donations needed to help pay for his boarding. To date since 10/20/21 over $4000. 10/1/21: Our volunteers are visiting Max and taking him out for walks and play yard. Doing great and friendly with 2nd visit with female and male with yummy treats and turkey hot dogs. Max goes to male volunteer for hot dogs long walk and fine being petted. Lyle was on the SASA PTS list Sat. 5/13/24 at 4:30 pm so we tagged him to save his life. He was a shelter staff favorite. Now we need a foster home for him ASAP as he is in emergency boarding. Lyle is a super dog and is people friendly. He loves to play then calms - and he loves his pets. He does need some basic training but he seems easy to train and he's a pleaser. He already has learned to sit and wait for treats only gently taking the treat after the release command. Lyle is very pretty and unique with one blue eye. Ranger was rescued from a distant shelter when his time was running out. He is very friendly dog social smart BFF and great hiking buddy. Ranger is magnificent! Update from his Foster Home: Ranger is an active smart and goofy 3-year-old German Shepherd. He knows all basic obedience loose leash walking skills and has been learning off leash recall. Ranger has gotten along with numerous dogs of all sizes and breeds but hasn't really been interested in play. His main focus in life is his people and his ball. Ranger's ideal home is an active home that knows how to keep his body and his brain exercised. Ranger enjoys daily walks or jogs a game of fetch and weekly hikes and swims. He may even enjoy trying out some dog sports. Despite being an active and adventurous dog Ranger is gentle and calm inside of the home. He is crate trained and enjoys relaxing on his dog bed next to his foster family and their dogs. Due to foster home's increased work and school schedule Ranger needs a dedicated foster to adoption home or foster home.
