Meet Freddy! Watch His Videos!Freddy may give off the aloof stare but don`t buy it! This senior gent was adopted from us in January of 2024 and returned recently to no fault of his own. Since his return, Freddy has shown us a little of his flirty personality and that he loves quiet attention (watch his video!). Freddy also loves napping, bird watching, and sleeping on the coziest bed provided. Oh and CATNIP, Freddy loves catnip! Freddy has also discovered that playtime is fun (see his video) and is no longer afraid of his toys. Freddy did live with other cats but we think he might prefer being the only pet in his golden years. Freddy just wants a patient, quiet adult-only home to live out his golden years. Could it be yours?Freddy is currently up to date on all vaccinations, has been neutered, microchipped, and seen by our vet team. For more information on Freddy or any other animal currently residing at the Animal Rescue League of Boston, please call us at 617-426-9170. MEET GIGI!This gorgeous gorgeous girl doesn`t have a mean bone in her body! While Gigi can be a little fearful at first she absolutely loves affection provided she is given a little time and patience before she warms up. Gigi was found as a stray so we don`t have too much information about her but from what we`ve seen here, she`s a catch! Gigi could do well in a home with cat-savvy older children provided they`re willing to give her a some time to get acclimated before giving her the love she truly deserves. Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Midnight's journey has been a challenging one; she was attacked by a dog, which left her with nerve damage and incontinence. Her tail had to be amputated, and she was sent to Black Cat Rescue to heal. Despite the hardships she has faced, Midnight has shown remarkable resilience and strength. With the care and support of her foster humans, she has made incredible progress. Her incontinence is now manageable with the help of a diaper, and she has adapted to her new circumstances with grace and determination. Midnight (4 years old) is now ready for her next chapter, a loving home where she can receive the care and attention she deserves. She is a sweet and affectionate cat, with a playful spirit that shines bright. She even still likes dogs!! All she needs is a chance to show you the love and joy she has to offer. Please consider opening your heart and home to Midnight. She has so much love to give and is ready to become a cherished member of your family. Together, we can give Midnight the happy ending she deserves. Here's what her foster human has to say about Midnight:   How would you describe the cat's general personality? Midnight is a friendly and smart girl, she doesn’t hesitate to interact with people.   Does the cat enjoy being pet? If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? She enjoys being pet. Cheeks, head, and back, enjoying rubbing ears and belly too.   Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? She doesn’t like her rear legs being touched. Would move her legs away and give you some look.   Does the cat come on your lap? She loves coming on our laps a lot, many times a day.   Does the cat like to be held? She doesn’t seem like to be held currently, would try to jump away.   Does the cat sleep in your bed? She would if we let her. She loves being around us.   Does the cat seek your attention? Very much! She would meow or jump on our laps.   Does the cat like to play? What are the cat's favorite games and toys? She loves to play, in fact, she asks us to play with her every day. She may play at one toy and grab all the toys around her together.   How vocal is the cat? What kinds of sounds does the cat make? She is vocal when seeing us in the morning, got home or wants to eat. Her voice is very soft.   Does the cat scratch a scratcher? She does, the scratch board is her favorite spot.   Does the cat always use the litter box? If no, please explain. She’s not using the litter box due to the current condition.   What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? She eats both dry foods and wet foods(can foods).   Is the cat picky about food? She is a little picky, loves pate and salmon flavor.   What is the cat's favorite treat? She can’t resist Churu!   Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? Yes, when we just met her, she swat at me when rubbing her belly(she likes belly rubbing), but now she doesn’t swat at me.   Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? Yes, and also the same situation described above. Sometimes she would claws out, but can’t be sure if that just her claws are a bit sharp, because she doesn’t show full claws.   Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? No, she doesn’t.   Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No, she only lightly hold my hand in her mouth when rubbing her belly the first week we met.   To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? She is very friendly to new people, she jumped on and kissed us the first day we met. And I believe she is social and gets along with other pets well.   Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? Her sleeping style can sometimes make us laughing, she would straighten her legs backwards like a Flying supergirl.   In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? She has great personality, smart (fast learner), and gentle. Aside from her special needs, she’s an angel and a good friend.   What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? The most challenge part is her lack of ability to control urine and stools. We change her diapers 4-6 times a day and give her diaper-free times few times a day. Spayed or Neutered,
Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Ilex is a 2 year old affectionate and companiable boy. Here's what his foster human says about him: How would you describe the cat's general personality? Ilex is just a sweet and playful little guy! He loves string toys, bird watching, and running around the apartment when he has the “zoomies”. He wants a lot of attention, and wants to be a part of anything you are doing (cooking, working, etc.). He loves spending time with people and is curious about exploring the space he is in. Does the cat enjoy being pet? Yes! If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? Around his ears, under the chin, on this head. Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? He doesn’t really like belly rubs Does the cat come on your lap? Sometimes, but not super often. He likes sitting next to you and stretching out more than sitting on your lap. Does the cat like to be held? He LOVES being held. When he is meowing, it's either because he wants food (which, let’s be honest, is most of the time), or because he literally just wants to be picked up. He will sit in my arms for long periods of time and starts purring immediately after getting picked up. Does the cat sleep in your bed? He did the first night or two when he was isolated in my room, but now he tends to just sleep in the living room on the sofa. He’ll get in my bed in the morning sometimes when he realizes I’ve woken up. Does the cat seek your attention? Yes definitely – he wants to be part of cooking, eating, brushing your teeth, etc. He wants to go everywhere with you. This can sometimes be a challenge (i.e. he is still learning not to jump on the stovetop while I am making dinner), but it is very sweet. Does the cat like to play? Definitely! We play for at least an hour a day I would say, and he also will play on his own with his toys that are left out on the floor. What are the cat's favorite games and toys? He really likes string toys or toys that make noise. He also has a little mouse toy he likes to play with – it's a good one for him to claw at and get a lot of his energy out at. How vocal is the cat? He is a pretty vocal cat. He meows a lot when he is getting fed, when he is playing, or even if he is just following you around and wants attention. What kinds of sounds does the cat make?   Mostly just little meows! And he purrs a ton too when being pet. Does the cat scratch a scratcher? He scratches a scratcher pretty well. He is still learning not to scratch the couch too, but with some redirection and treats he will scratch elsewhere. Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? He eats one large can (5.3 oz) can of food a day. I give him half in the morning and half at night. He also has dry food out at all times, which he tends to eat a good bit of throughout the day. Is the cat picky about food? He has not been picky with any of the different wet foods I have tried for him, and I have tried a good variety. He has only had Country Vet Naturals dry food with me, which he seems to enjoy. The only thing he did not like, surprisingly, was cat treats – specifically the So Stuffed cat treats. What is the cat's favorite treat? He really likes Churus. Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? He only swats at me when he is in a very playful mood. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? Similarly to above, he scratches when he is in a playful mood. He usually scratches more than swats – something we are still working on. Especially if my clothing has a string on it (sweatpants, hoodie string), he may accidentally swat at me too because the movement of the string gets him excited. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? No Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? He seems pretty unbothered/unphased by humans. He is curious and happy to sniff someone new or get a few pets, definitely not overly fearful in any way. Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? 1) I just want to emphasize that he's got quite a lot of energy and quite a bit of zoomies. He will definitely run around the apartment to get his energy out, either chasing a toy or just running for the fun of it. Adopters should have lots of time to give him play time and attention because he really likes it.   2) While he does jump up on tables, counters, etc. (mainly whenever you are at the space), he never bats stuff off the tables/counters. He has been really good about leaving stuff alone that isn’t his play toys. In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? He loves companionship and is such a love bug. He loves to be held, loves to participate in anything you are doing, and is constantly purring when he has attention. That might not be what every adopter is looking for, but if that fits the description of the cat you want, Ilex is the perfect fit. What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? Two main things: 1) As I mentioned, he jumps on counters and tables a lot. He will only do it when you are at the place. This tends to mean I am brushing my teeth, eating my food, or cooking meals with a cat right next to me. Having places designated for him to perch seems like the best way to manage this. For example, his cat tree is now right next to the kitchen table, so he will sit there instead of directly on the table when I am eating. 2) He scratches the sofa to get his energy out. He tends to do this when he has quite a bit of energy, and it is sometimes hard to get him to stop. The best way for him to stop is to give him another form of play or another scratching post that you can direct his attention to. Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Winnie and Minnie are one year old bonded sisters. Here's what their foster human says about them: How would you describe the cat's general personality? Minnie and Winnie are both sweet but nervous cats. Minnie is more adventurous and curious of people. Winnie hangs back more and relies on her sister to figure things out first but is getting braver. But overall both of them are interested, playful and curious girls.   Does the cat enjoy being pet? They do not   Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? They don’t want to be pet.   Does the cat come on your lap? No, but they like sitting on the bed near you   Does the cat like to be held? No   Does the cat sleep in your bed? Yes, they sleep for a little but they run around. But they join at bedtime and sleep on the bed for a bit.   Does the cat seek your attention? Yes, they come out and ask for treats especially when I am in the kitchen they will come out and watch me and wait for treats. They also come up to the bed at nighttime to sit with me. They really like watching cat tv on youtube on the phone and it’s good way from them to relax.   Does the cat like to play? Yes!! They love playing with different things on a rod. They love hair ties and cat toy wirey strings.   What are the cat's favorite games and toys? Their favorite games with me are chasing a polar fleece ribbon of the rod. They also love to carry around toy mice. They really love hair ties - they love to take them once I am done using them and they have their own personal collection of them.   How vocal is the cat? Minnie trills sometimes when she’s talking to her sister but Winnie is pretty quiet.   What kinds of sounds does the cat make? Yes, the trills. Neither of them meow at all.   Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Yes, I have several they use.   Does the cat always use the litter box? Always.   What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? They are night owls but I feed them in the morning and at night. Currently they always have dry food available and wet food twice a day. Dry food: Prescription Hills DIet: GI BIOME. Digestive Care/Fiber Wellness cans: usually Salmon, tuna, or beef flavored   Is the cat picky about food? Yes, but mainly because many of the foods made them sick. But these ones they eat seem to agree with their stomachs.   What is the cat's favorite treat? Minnie likes churus. Winnie does not. But they both really like ‘Wildly Natural Cat Treats: Salmon Flavor’ Every now and then - they get tuna juice.   Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? Yes, But only when they are scared and I had to take them to the vet. They are nervous and when terrified they will put their claws out. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? Yes. When trying to take them to the vet. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? Yes. Same as claws. When they need to be caught to go to the vet. Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? Yes, all related to the vet. They are nervous around people but won’t bite unless grabbed.   To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? They tend to be fearful. They are really scared of people wearing shoes. They will run away if you are wearing shoes but much less scared if you are barefoot or sock footed. If you sit still and have toys or treats they will get brave and come out.   Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? So many sweet things about these cats. First off, they are so brave and are trying to trust people. They adore watching cat tv on youtube, the birds at the feeder. They like playing with strings/shoelace/cords. They like to drink water out of mugs that are all around the apartment. They also dip their toys in the water and carry the soggy felt-wire around afterwards.   In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? These cats have been blooming since the start of their foster in Oct. They each have become more brave, more trusting, and more willing to come out during the day to hang out. They ask for treats now and come and watch to sit/sleep on the bed at night. If you want two brave kitties - who are exponentially growing to be more trusting and more social but need someone very patient and who will let them go at their own pace, you are the perfect person for them   What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? Biggest challenge is that they are fearful and nervous. Ways to manage this: spending time hanging out with them without interacting until they want to. Rewarding them with treats and new toys and playtime. I try to keep them on a routine so they know when I will feed them and then that makes them come out and see me. Big thing for their fears is being startled by movement - move slowly around them and if possible not wear shoes. He had no issues adjusting to his new environment and explores every inch of a new place. He loves to cuddle and be around his human(s).   I think he'd do well as a single cat or with another confident pet. He's not interested in playing with my resident cat and wants to hog me sometimes. However, they're fine around each other and respect each other's boundaries. He might do best in an adult only home since he swats/nips when overstimulated.   Does the cat enjoy being pet? Yes, mostly on his terms If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? Head and face, occasionally neck Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? Currently eating Royal Canin adult indoor, not interested in Science Diet adult chicken. Is the cat picky about food? Somewhat? I didn't catch what his family was feeding him originally, and he didn't like the first food I bought him. Will eat both fish and chicken. What is the cat's favorite treat? Churu   Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? Yes, when overstimulated or trying to get attention Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? Never   To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? I'd assume social. He warmed up to me extremely quickly and was laying on top of me within 3 hours of being here.   Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? 1) He likes to suck and knead when happy and comfortable. I put a "decoy" shirt on my bed because I woke up once with a wet sleeve. 2) He loves to join my virtual meetings by sitting on my lap or on top of my arm. 3) He likes to check on my in the shower to make sure I'm still alive   In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? He's a funny boy with lots of love to give! Great cuddler, great companion, and his little fangs are adorable!   What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? Figuring out his boundaries and getting used to his body language. I continue to let him lead by having him smell my hand and initiate petting himself. Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Ramona is a sweet 1 year old girl. Ramona has chronic rhinitis and uses an inhaler twice a day which manages her excess mucus production. This is what her foster human says about her:   How would you describe the cat's general personality?  Ramona is super sweet and playful with just the right amount of sass to make you love her even more.   Does the cat enjoy being pet?  Yes!  Especially in the morning when everyone wakes up. If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? Head, cheeks, and back. Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched?  Her tummy is often off limits. Does the cat come on your lap?  Yes, especially if you have a soft blanket across you. Does the cat like to be held?  No, not for long periods of time. Does the cat sleep in your bed?  Some of the time. Does the cat seek your attention?  Yes, especially in the morning and around meal times.  She also likes to be around her people.   Does the cat like to play?  Yes! What are the cat's favorite games and toys?  String, laser pointer, any pencils left out.   How vocal is the cat?  Not very What kinds of sounds does the cat make?  Her most common meow is a super cute, almost silent one.   Does the cat scratch a scratcher?  Yes!  And if she tries to scratch on furniture, moving a sisal scratching post right next to it will solve your problem. Does the cat always use the litter box?  Yes!   What food and frequency is the cat currently eating?  Dry food out all day and some wet food twice a day. Is the cat picky about food?  Not picky exactly, but because she is missing some teeth, some textures are harder to eat than others.  She seems to prefer chicken pate. What is the cat's favorite treat?  She loves the squeezable ones like Churu.   Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances?  Yes, she'll sometimes give you a little pat when you walk past her, especially if she thinks you should be feeding her. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you?  No Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you?  Only gently and during play Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No   To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful?  She is indifferent to new people.  Neither afraid nor particularly interested.  She is always friendly with whomever approaches her.   Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions?  She likes to roll over in the cutest way.  She as a cute swagger when she walks that we have dubbed her "runway walk" or "model walk".   In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt?   She is very friendly and will want to hang out with you and get head scritches.  She likes to sit near you or in your lap on the couch.  In the morning, she will definitely come find you for pets and love.   What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them?  She likes to stand on the edge of the litter box and move litter around a lot before using the litter box.  This has led to the box tipping a few times.  Getting a higher walled litter box helped a lot with this, and one with a lid would probably solve this, too.     To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.  February 15, 2025, 10:02 am

Here's what her foster humans say about her:   How would you describe the cat’s general personality? Jessie is super sweet, cuddly, and playful. She’s very outgoing and well-adjusted. She loves attention! Does the cat enjoy being pet? Soooo much. If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? All of them, especially her face, head, and sometimes her belly. Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? Not really! Does the cat come on your lap? Yes, any chance she gets. And then she starts immediately purring. Does the cat like to be held? Not particularly (kitten energy), but she’ll tolerate it. Does the cat sleep in your bed? When we let her, yes. Does the cat seek your attention? Yes, absolutely. Does the cat like to play? Yes! She’s mid-energy for a kitten`. What are the cat’s favorite games and toys? She loves chasing around a shoelace or pouncing on wand toys. She also loves to chase around her bouncy ball. How vocal is the cat? Pretty vocal! She greets us with little adorable squeaks when we go into her foster room. When we ignore her, she meows to call us back. What kinds of sounds does the cat make? Lots of purrs (calm/cuddling), squeaks, chirps, little cute meows (greetings/chatting), louder meows (calling for attention). Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Yes, and she especially likes her horizontal scratcher. Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? She eats kitten wet food twice a day (about ¼ of a can each time). She has unlimited dry food (Purina One). Is the cat picky about food? Not at all. What is the cat’s favorite treat? Churu, of course! Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? Nope.   Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? Nope. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? Nope. Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? Nope. To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? Extremely social. She LOVES meeting new people. Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? When Jessie loses her bouncy ball mid-chase, she’ll come back, look you in the eye, and quietly meow until you retrieve it and throw it for her again. She also likes to hold hands. In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? Jessie is an absolute love-bug who will just adore her humans and offer unlimited purrs and snuggles. She may be the sweetest cat I’ve met. What are the cat’s challenges and how have you found to best manage them? We aren’t sure yet how well Jessie does with other cats. We began a slow intro to our cats, and at times it seemed that Jessie didn’t respect their boundaries. She’s too curious for her own good! We’ve managed these cat intros with lots and lots of Churus. Story
This cute little boy Goldie came to my house with a friend from church. She was homeless and I took her in because it’s cold and she had a kitten. She left, changed her number, and no trace via social media I don’t know her family just know her from a friend at church. I called MSPCA etc & they said I would have to drop him off and before I do that I’d like to see if I can get him rehomed to a good place. My landlord lives on the property & doesn’t want any pets and has served me a 30 day notice about 2 weeks ago so I’m trying.
