Story
Kaiser and his mom, Queenie, are a bonded pair who are looking for a home together. They are both young cats who had a difficult start to life and would love to find the perfect home where they can thrive. Queenie was rescued from a hoarding situation when she was heavily pregnant. Soon after, she gave birth to a litter of kittens, which included Kaiser. Queenie was a wonderful mom and many of her kittens were adopted quickly, however, at only 10 weeks of age Kaiser was diagnosed with Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP.) Fortunately, Kaiser not only survived FIP, but he has beaten it and is a very happy, healthy boy now. Since Queenie and Kaiser have been through so much together, they really love each other and are very bonded. It will be important for them to go to a home where they can stay together. Kaiser was born in July 2024, so at the time of posting this bio he is 9 months old. He's got a gorgeous, fluffy, brown tabby coat and a sweet personality to go with it. It can take Kaiser a little bit of time to get used to new people but once he knows you he's quite interactive. He can be chatty sometimes but he's not loud, and he has a wonderful purr. Kaiser likes to play, but since he's no longer a small kitten he isn't a high-energy cat. He does enjoy climbing and being high up on his scratch post. He's not much of a lap cat, but likes to be involved with what's going on and likes to be near you. Queenie is a young adult and is estimated to be about 21 months old at the time of posting (estimated birthday in the summer of 2023.) She has a sleek black coat on a petite frame. Like Kaiser, Queenie is interactive and likes to know what's going on around her but she's more reserved than Kaiser is. She wasn't treated very well during her first year of life, so it takes her a little while to get used to new people. Once she knows you, she will rub up against your legs and purr. Queenie does not like to be picked up and is nervous of having her head touched, but she enjoys back rubs and butt pets. Kaiser helps Queenie come out of her shell; they're a good team. Since both of these kitties came from a home full of other cats, they get along well with others. They are used to other young cats of both genders, and get along as long as the other cats are nice to them. They're both playful and Queenie is a wonderful hunter if you have a feather toy on a stick for her to pounce on. Both kitties are young and playful. Neither of these cats will do well in a home with dogs or with children. They need an adult-only home. They are comfortable with other cats but since Queenie came from an environment where she had to compete for food, she does hoover her food quickly and has taught this trait to Kaiser. Therefore, they need to be in a home where they are meal fed. If they are allowed to free fee, they will become obese very quickly. Queenie does not do well in confined spaces (especially carriers) so she will not be a good cat for someone who wishes to travel with their pet. Putting her in a carrier is very traumatic for Queenie. Therefore, this pair will only be available for adoption within the Victoria area (close to where they are currently fostered). If you're interested in this lovely pair, please visit our website at https://victoriapets.ca/adoption-process/ for information regarding our adoption process and for a copy of our online adoption application.

Story
This pretty girl with the white toes is Chenille. She and her siblings were rescued from a hoarding situation when they were fairly young. Although most of Chenille's siblings were adopted as youngsters, Chenille was diagnosed with Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) so has had to say in our care until now. Fortunately, Chenille not only survived FIP, but she has beaten it and is very healthy now. Although Chenille was shy as a kitten, she has really blossomed into a fun adult! She's just over a year old and she's spunky, playful, and affectionate; the perfect trifecta! When Chenille is in a playful mood, she'll either be engaged with a toy, or she's racing from one end of the house to the other at full tilt. However, once it's time to settle down, Chenille is very affectionate and loves her people. She isn't comfortable with children, but she really likes to snuggle with calm adults. She'll rub her head all over their hands and will push the other cats out of the way to hog all of the attention. She can actually be a bit 'smacky' if other cats get too close to her during her 'human cuddle time.' Chenille has always lived with lots of other cats and has gotten along with them well. However, as she's come into her own, she's a bit more selective about the cats that she'll spend time with. She is not looking for a cat friend who will snuggle with her, but she enjoys having another cat to play with. A laid back male who gives Chenille her personal space but who also wants to run around with her when she's feeling hyper, would be ideal. It will be important that Chenille's feline friend isn't the dominant or jealous type when it comes to sharing human affection - that would be an immediate personality clash. Chenille is afraid of dogs so needs a dog-free home. Since Chenille has a very fluffy coat, she will need a family who is willing to groom her regularly to ensure that her fur doesn't get matted. It will be very prone to knots if not cared for properly. Chenille loves her food and will inhale any wet or dry food that's put in front of her. She's food motivated so using food and treats is a great way to bond with her. However, her calorie intake will need to be monitored to ensure her waistline doesn't get too big. She will need a home with someone who will provide regular, measured feedings; she will not be able to to free-fed. If you'd like to learn more about Chenille, please visit https://victoriapets.ca/adoption-process/ for more information about the adoption process and for a copy of our online adoption application.

Story
Miss Kitty needs a new home - maybe it could be with you??? Beautiful Miss Kitty is a senior girl who sadly had to leave the only home she ever knew (for 15 years!) due to the declining health of her owner. We moved Miss Kitty into one of our foster homes and it initially seemed like the PURRfect fit. However, Miss Kitty sometimes bites when she is frightened, and her foster mom was uncomfortable with this behaviour. So, sadly, Miss Kitty is yet again looking for a new home. Poor girl! Miss Kitty is a very quiet and independent cat. She does like a lap to sit on (see picture) and loves her little tent to sleep in. An ideal foster would be someone with experience reading cats' body language and someone with a quiet home. We will place Miss Kitty through our LIFETIME FOSTER program, so that all supplies (food, etc) will be provided and all veterinary expenses will be covered by the rescue! If you are interested in learning more about Miss Kitty, please do reach out to us - info@catsofsaltspring.com / 236-508-2287. Poor Miss Kitty deserves to be pampered in her senior years and loved - on her terms of course!

Azriel is a calm and friendly cat who is looking for his new home. He can be pretty shy at first, but once you start petting him he shows his true self.Azriel loves to be pet and gives enthusiastic head butts. He likes to lounge up high so he can fully observe his domain. He has shown interest in meeting other cats and may do well with a cat buddy in his new home. Azriel is an easy going cat who loves to spend time with people. His long coat will need regular brushing to keep him looking his best. Azriel would prefer to be an indoor only cat. He will need enrichment and playtime in his new home to keep him active and mentally stimulated. If you think you might be a good fit for this handsome guy, you can come meet him at the Nanaimo SPCA.
