Story
My name is Jaela, and I’m looking for my forever home! I’m 3 years old and weigh 18 lbs. I came to my foster home here in Columbus, OH, from a commercial breeding facility. It’s so much better here, even though I’m still getting used to everything that is new about it (like the thing they call Roomba. OMG. It is terrifying!) I’m a very good girl in the house. I am potty trained and not destructive. When foster dad has to go out for a short time, I sometimes hang out in the living room and play or when he is gone for a longer time, I stay in my kennel and don’t make any fuss. I like the people here, but trusting humans is new for me. I’m cautious and skittish, even around my foster dad, but I will let him pet me on my head and pick me up. I don't yet feel comfortable with him touching my belly or paws. I am very gentle when taking treats. I love being around other dogs, especially my foster fur-brother and other Shiba Inu who have come over to play. I love running around in our securely fenced back yard. I’d spend all day out there if I could. I haven’t met any cats yet. I do like to chase critters outside. But when I’m indoors, I tend to hang out in my kennel, so I might be fine sharing a forever home. I’m learning how to walk on a leash! It’s scary out there outside of our familiar yard. I’m pretty brave if my foster fur-brother is there, but if I’m on my own, I freeze and foster dad sometimes has to pick me up and carry me back home. I've been on some car rides and that's been fine. I’ve never met any human kids before, but I hear they can be loud. Loud scares me, so I’m pretty sure I’d be scared of them. If the kids were older and could be quiet and patient as I learn to adjust, that might be okay. My forever home must have a securely fenced yard. It would be great to have another nice dog to play with and to help me feel safe and relaxed, but I can also have fun on my own. I'd love my forever family to be experienced with shy/fearful dogs like me so they will be patient and understand my needs. No small kids please! I’m a healthy girl – spayed and vaccinated. If you live in the Midwest and want to welcome a fun, playful, shy and beautiful girl like me into your life, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA make sure we'll be a good match. Once approved, they'll introduce you to my foster dad so we can meet!

Story
What a face! Humphrey is a big doofus. When he arrived he weighed 14 lbs. He was living in a crate and being starved to death. But with the right vet care and foster he is now 40 lbs and loving life. He still wants to eat too fast so he uses a special bowl to slow him down. Humphrey is still learning he can go outside to potty and he doesn't have to do his business in his crate. At some point his ears were cut off, probably with scissors, but that doesn't seem to bother him. And it just gives him a special look, along with his squatty muscular body. He needs a strong person to help him keep learning life can be good. He can be reactive with some dogs. No idea about cats but probably should not live with them. He does think he should be a lap dog and loves belly rubs. I am in a foster home so if you are interested in adoptiong me, please fill out an online adoption application at https://colonycats.org/adoption_app.html to expedite the process.  Due to the large number of inquiries we receive, we are unable to respond to emails quickly.  November 6, 2024, 3:21 pm

Story
Silky soft, snuggly, and eager to please all the people he meets. Oakley is willing to trust new people, show his belly, give kisses. Knows 'sit,' 'lie down,' and getting acquainted with 'stay,' 'leave it,' and 'get down. Very interested in other dogs, but willing to be instructed to 'leave it' and carry on walking when we passed yards or houses with barking dogs. Fairly good on a leash. Very energetic, will be a good companion for someone athletic. But also Willing to hang out quietly while I you work on the computer or watched TV; even willing to ignore the nearby cats most of time. Curious about them but not wanting to interact with them. Before considering him as a pet do research on the breed. He is a herding dog and will try to steer you where he thinks you need to go. This will include nipping at your heels and hands if they are by your side. He will be good with older kids that understand his behavior. Story
I'm just a happy go lucky young guy with lots of energy. I love running in the yard, playing with other dogs, going on walks. I'm working on my commands and manners. I'm cool with cats, older kids. I think i would love to be a running partner for someone. I would really like to have another dog to play worth or be able to do to doggie daycare. >I am in a foster home so if you are interested in adoptiong me, please fill out an online adoption application at https://colonycats.org/adoption_app.html to expedite the process.  Due to the large number of inquiries we receive, we are unable to respond to emails quickly.  November 17, 2024, 7:44 pm

Story
Maeve is a nearly 5 year old (in December) beautiful and intelligent purebred Sable German Shepherd with an impressive pedigree who is, unfortunately, seeking a new environment where she can thrive. Maeve was raised with our two children in a loving household and a big yard to exercise and explore in. She is very healthy, up to date on all vaccinations, current on preventatives, and never has accidents.  Despite her sweet and affectionate nature, she has unfortunately become overly dominant in her current household, leading to tension with the other dogs. Although we believe she would never bite a human and especially our children we do worry about this behavior resulting in indirect harm if allowed to escalate. This is a very difficult decision for us to make, but we believe it is in Maeve's best interest to find her an only dog home where she can thrive.  Maeve is a loyal and protective companion who loves spending time with her humans. She is well-trained and enjoys walking/running, being outside, playing fetch, and cuddling on the couch. However, due to her alpha tendencies, she requires a home without other pets. Previous experience with German Shepherds may be beneficial for both Maeve and her future parents.  We are hopeful to find the loving lower stress home Maeve deserves. This has been a heart wrenching decision for us that we would not have made if we did not feel it was in Maeve's best interest. She is a strong, beautiful, highly intelligent and loyal protector that we love fiercely and will miss dearly.   Please contact Jarrod with any questions.
