Story
This is Chanel. She is a little over a year and a half old. She grew up in an outside kennel. She is the sweetest girl with beautiful coloring. She is considered to be small/medium but she has a big personality. She is a very active girl and would do best in an active home. She can be a little nervous when she is in the house. She definitely prefers to me outside and running around. She is great with other animals. She has a submissive personality. She has started her house training, leash training and crate training. She is shy and reserved when meeting new people but she is very food motivated so that helps to make training easier. She prefers to be with people and other animals rather than being alone. **WE ARE CURRENTLY DOING ADOPTIONS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. YOU MUST CALL TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING. PLEASE LEAVE US A VOICEMAIL IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO REACH US. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there. My name is Pappy. I'm about 5 years old and I weigh about 65 lbs. I was found as a stray in the New Waterford area and I was brought into the pound. I have been a really good boy here at the pound. I am sweet, happy and I like to play, but I am past the puppy shenanigans. I appear to be completely housebroken and I am a good boy when I am in my kennel. I am not a dog that likes being squeezed and hugged, kissed on, poked and prodded. I am a great boy. I am smart. I know commands. I like affection. I am well mannered... But, I do not like certain things, and I will tell you NO. Children don't always understand that cue and that some dogs would rather be left alone sometimes, so I am looking for a family without children. I will also likely need muzzled at the vet for things like annual vaccines and nail trims, as, again, I am not a fan of poking and prodding. I also don't like being messed with while I'm eating. I like to eat in peace, enjoy my treats in peace, then we can talk. I have done well around all of the other dogs that I've met here at the pound. I love going for nice, long walks with the volunteers on the days they're here. I enjoy being out of my kennel, rolling around in the grass and romping around for a little bit... then sleeping for hours. I would make an excellent companion for a single person looking for a dog to keep them company and keep them safe. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $152. We accept cash, check or credit/ debit cards for adoption fees. If you pay using a credit or debit card, a convenience fee of 2.39% will also be applied. If paying by check, you will need 2. One Check will be for the dog license, and one will be for your dog's adoption fee, which includes heartworm testing (for dogs 6 months of age old and older), parvo/distemper vaccine, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, 3 days of panacur de-wormer, spay or neuter surgery, microchip, and a current Ohio dog license. We DO offer foster to adopt. (We will NOT accept cash for foster to adopt). We highly recommend you do a foster to adopt with your new dog if you are not 100% sure your new dog is going to work out in your home. Foster to adopt gives you a couple of weeks with the dog to make sure they are a good fit with your family before your payment is processed and the adoption is finalized. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. If the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills, in addition to their adoption fee if possible so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. We try our absolute hardest to never have to euthanize for space and have not had to do so for many years thanks to the ongoing support from the public and high adoption rates. Please remember; the adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm. Saturday, Sunday and holidays: 8 am - 12 pm. Adoptions are always welcome any day of the week/ weekend and on holidays. We are here everyday to care for the dogs and the best way to make our day is to see our dogs go to loving families. There is nobody in the office on Saturday, Sunday or holidays, so therefore, we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. We are only staffed to take care of the dogs and do adoptions over the weekends/ on holidays. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. My name is Boo. I'm about 7 years old and I weigh about 60 lbs. Someone brought me into the pound and claimed that I was a stray. A couple of days later, a dog that had been here in the past, my friend Zoe, came in. She was chipped and had been adopted back by the son of our owner. His dog Karma was also in the pound with Zoe at that time and he got them both back home. When the girls here called to find out what was going on with Zoe, he stated that after getting Zoe and his dog Karma back, his parents were mad that he brought them back home and they kicked him out of the house. He found a safe place for Karma to stay, but Zoe and I belonged to his parents and he didn't have anyplace we could go to, so he had to leave us behind. When she called him, she didn't know I was associated with Zoe yet, but he asked if a dog matching my description had also been dropped off or picked up within the previous couple of days of Zoe's arrival. He was told that I was here and that I had been brought in as a stray. He did know the name of the person that dropped me off and it is believed that the person that dropped me off did so for my owner. Needless to say, neither of us were claimed, and I guess that is probably for the better. I get to share a kennel with Zoe now and we do great together. We keep our kennel clean at night usually. Zoe sometimes has the "old lady" accidents, but we seem to be housebroken otherwise. I can be a little unsure of new people, so sometimes it takes me just a little bit of time to warm up. Once I know you, I am extremely sweet and I like attention and affection. I get along well with the other dogs I've met here at the pound. Zoe and I do not have to be adopted together, but if someone were looking to adopt 2 dogs, we would be a great pair. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $152. We accept cash, check or credit/ debit cards for adoption fees. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there. My name is Zigman. I'm about 5 years old and I weigh about 50 lbs. I was seized by the pound, along with 2 other hounds. We were living in absolutely deplorable conditions, which our owner saw no problem with. We were surrendered to the pound during court proceedings, so we are now able to find loving new families to join. I am a super sweet and very loving, affectionate boy. I love getting attention and my smiling face tells you just how happy I am to be freed of my previous "home". I get along well with other dogs (I've only been around dogs roughly my own size). I am finally learning how to run and play. I was previously used for hunting purposes and may do best in a home without small pets. Being that I was kept as an outdoor dog for my life prior to my arrival at the pound, I will need a patient family willing to work with me on potty training, basic training and house manners. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $152. We accept cash, check or credit/ debit cards for adoption fees.
