Shih Tzus are affectionate, loyal, and charming little dogs that make excellent companions. Buster’s Highlights: Strong personality , bold and determined Food lover , first to the bowl every time Playful pup , adores his chew bone and purple octopus Energetic sibling , loves tug-of-war with his sisters Tiny powerhouse , weighing just 3 lbs 5 oz Buster may be small, but he’s full of confidence and charm. Meet Harley – A Loyal Companion with a Gentle Heart Breed: Terrier Mix Age: 4 years Weight: 22 lbs Location: Durham, NC House-trained: Yes Crate-trained: Yes Good with Dogs: Can be selective, meet and greet with existing dogs would be best Good with Kids: No small children Good with Cats: Not tested Energy Level: Low to Moderate Fenced Yard Required: Preferred Special Needs: Experienced adopter preferred due to reactivity and anxiety Harley is a sweet, soulful 4-year-old Terrier mix with a gentle heart and cautious nature. Weighing just 22 lbs, he’s the perfect size for cuddles and quiet companionship. Though shy and slow to warm up, Harley blossoms into a devoted shadow dog once he feels safe—always happiest curled up on the couch or nestled close to his person. About Harley’s Breed: Terriers were originally bred to be clever, brave, and tenacious, and Harley has inherited their sharp mind and loyalty—but in a much softer, more sensitive package. Terrier mixes often bond deeply with their people, and Harley is no exception. While some terriers are high-energy, Harley is mellow and calm indoors, with occasional playful bursts when the mood strikes. He is thoughtful, observant, and truly shines in a stable environment where he can build trust at his own pace. Harley’s Personality & Progress: Harley is house-trained, crate-trained, and has excellent manners—no chewing, no accidents, and he sleeps peacefully through the night. He prefers quiet nature walks to busy neighborhoods and enjoys time in peaceful, enclosed outdoor spaces. He is reactive to some dogs and sudden noises, but he’s made wonderful progress with redirection and positive reinforcement. Because of his reactivity and occasional anxiety (especially when left alone), Harley needs a patient, experienced adopter who understands how to manage a sensitive dog. Once he trusts you, Harley will give you his whole heart—he’s not just looking for a home, but for someone to belong to. Harley’s Ideal Home: Calm, quiet environment No small children Good as a solo dog, or with another dog with similar energy Secure fenced yard preferred Experienced, patient adopter willing to continue positive reinforcement training and offer routine and stability Harley is fully vetted, neutered, and ready to be someone’s loyal sidekick. Story
Meet Peter — a 10-year-old, 10 lb Yorkshire Terrier with the most charming “toothless” smile you’ll ever see! Quick Facts: Name: Peter Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Age: 10 years old Weight: 10 lbs. House-Trained: Yes Crate-Trained: Yes Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: Not tested but we guess he’d be fine with them! Good with Kids: Hasn’t met them yet, but loves everyone! Energy Level: Medium to high Fence Required: Yes - he is an escape artist! Special Care Note: This little guy has minor anatomical difference known as slightly permanent paraphimosis, where his prepuce doesn't fully cover his penis. When we rescued him, it was much more protruded, but with consistent care it has improved significantly over the past month. Our veterinarians have thoroughly evaluated him and confirmed this is not a surgical issue and does not affect his comfort or quality of life. Ongoing care is simple and involves applying a small amount of lubricant twice daily. He's happy, playful, and completely unaware that he's any different - just a sweet Yorkie who needs a bit of extra care! About Peter’s Breed: Our best guess is that Peter is a Yorkie mix. The Yorkshire Terrier, or “Yorkie,” is a tiny toy breed with a big personality, known for being affectionate, lively, and confident. Despite their small size, they carry themselves with boldness and charm, often described as having a “big dog attitude in a little body.” Yorkies are famous for their long, silky coats, which require regular grooming, and they thrive on companionship, making them devoted lap dogs as well as spirited playmates. Peter recently had dental work and is now healthy, happy, and ready to shine in his forever home! He’s potty trained, crate trained, and trustworthy outside of his crate, making him an easy companion. Despite his age, Peter has plenty of energy—he loves to run, play, and explore the yard with his foster doggie siblings. He’s also great on a leash and enjoys daily walks, plus he rides well in the car, making him the perfect little travel buddy! Peter’s PAWsitively Adorable Highlights: • Potty & crate trained, quick learner of house rules • Dog-friendly, loves playing with his foster siblings • Affectionate “Velcro” pup, happiest in a lap or by your side • Energetic for his age, enjoys walks and yard play • Soft food diet, since he has only a few teeth left • Car rider pro, loves adventures with his people • Would thrive with a fenced yard or regular leash walks • Ideal home: someone who can spend lots of time with him, as he loves constant companionship Peter is a sweet, affectionate little boy who wants nothing more than to be your loyal sidekick. With his happy spirit, cuddly nature, and adorable smile, he’s ready to bring endless love and joy to his forever family!
