Story
Mavis is a 3-4 year old 82 pound rottie we rescued over a year ago. She adores people and always wants to be near you. She loves anything soft, mainly blankets. Extremely food motivated and eager to please. She is a very smart girl and picks up on tricks quickly. She is crate trained, potty trained and has no health problems. She gets the zoomies every once in a while but prefers to lounge around and hang out. She likes to be clean and will ask for baths by hopping into the tub. She currently lives with a 16 pound Shih-tzu mix and they get along well but she is very reactive to other dogs so would do best in a single dog home. She is very protective of the people she loves but is not a barker. We’ve had tons of different people meet her and she’s very outgoing. Won’t hesitate to switch to guard dog mode if needed though. We have been working with her on that reactivity but we have not been able to give her the time she deserves. She should not be around cats.

Story
We love him so much, but we work all the time and no one is home for hours on end. He needs a family that can better support him. We got him as a puppy. It breaks my heart but jasper deserves a better home and more attention. He’s so good with children! I do not think I’ve ever even heard him growl at anyone. He doesn’t even bark at other dogs. I wish I could keep him but it’s not about me it’s about jasper.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Hi! I am Barclay. I traveled all the way from Egypt to find my forever home in Iowa.  I like it here at the adoption center where I'v called home for a few years now. I had a pretty rough time before I came to Iowa.  I am missing some hair on my back end, it happen Egypt and we don't know what happened but could be the reason it takes time for Barclay to warm up to new people. I am all healed up and would love home with understanding people. I would do best in a quiet home with my few people that understand and love me. I will need on going care for my skin so I don't get sores. The volunteers keep my skin nice and moisturized and away from the sun so I don't get sun burns. I know lots of commands, sit, down, shake and I am crate trained. I love to play with toys too! I like playing with other dogs but I need a home with no kids.  Everyone says I am a very handsome boy.  If you are interested in Barclay we ask you to become a volunteer at the Last Hope Adoption Center so he can get to know you! Barclay has stranger danger and takes time to warm up to new people.   Barclay will need an owner who has previous experience with dogs who have behavioral issues. Barcaly's adoption free is $250 and includes his neuter, microchip and current vaccinations as well as a basic obedience class at Cedar Run in Hiawatha. Last Hope requires that all animals be kept as indoor pets only, altered, current on vaccinations and year round preventatives. Our adoption process includes reference and background checks, a vet check and a home visit Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 4, 2024, 6:20 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hi, I’m Duke! I am a charming, happy, Cattle Dog mix.  I love to go for walks  or runs  (and I am really good at it!). I also love car rides, stuffed animals, and playing in a fenced-in backyard. I am completely house trained,  crate trained ,  and am very intelligent. I know what sit, lay down , and stay mean, but I could use some more training to work on those commands and anything else you want to teach me.  I love to run and play; I have a whole lot of energy, but I also love to cuddle, give kisses and be loved by my human companion .  Basically, I just like to be doing what my people are.   I am very cautious of new people. I really prefer to come check you out first, and I really rather you don’t pet me until I know you will treat me with kindness.  I may  have to meet you a couple times before  I know I can trust you .   I can’t tell my friends at Last Hope what happened to me before I came to stay with them, but all they know is that it takes me a while to trust people and be comfortable in situations.  Because of this, I should not be in a home with young kids or teens.  My dream home would be with an adult family who is familiar with my kind of challenges and who has a physically fenced in yard. I also want 1 other playful dog around my size (50 pounds+) or bigger  to play with (I can play a little rough so they need to be tough like me) and a family who is very patient with me while I adjust to new people in my life.  I am a very loyal companion and I just want to please my humans!   Once I know I can trust you, I just want to be around you and will be your shadow as you go through your day.  I have also had my DNA tested! I am officially an Australian Cattle Dog/Harrier mix!    Last Hope requires that all pets be kept as indoor pets, be altered and current on vaccinations and preventatives. Our adoption process includes reference and vet checks and a home visit. The adoption fee includes: spay/neuter, microchip and vaccinations.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 4, 2024, 6:20 pm

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hi! I am an energetic working boy who is looking for a home to call my own! I am around 6 years old and know all of my basic commands including, sit, lay down, and off. I would love to find a family with another dog and a fenced in yard. Please no children because I am still working on my manners, including how to greet young people and strangers appropriately. I am looking for an experienced dog owner, someone who is a strong handler and is looking for a lifelong companion that is smart and will be their #1 sidekick. I cannot wait to find my forever home!   Broly's adoption fee is $250 and includes his neuter, microchip, current vaccinations and preventatives PLUS an obedience course at Cedar Run in Hiawatha.  Last Hope requires that all animals be kept as indoor pets only, be altered and current on vaccinations and preventatives.  Our adoption process includes reference and background checks, a home visit and a vet check.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 4, 2024, 6:20 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Hi, my name is Kaia, and I came all the way from California.  While the west coast has all the sunshine,  I wanted to see how the mid-west farmers daughters lived.  All the dog volunteers at Last Hope say I am the sweetest little girl, I love to snuggle, and give tons of kisses.  I love to ride in the car and go for walks and I am super good at both! I am a very strong girl and need someone equally as strong.  I am a princess and love all the attention so I will need to be the only pet in the house.  I also need a home that has a privacy fence in case the neighbors have pets.  So if you always wished they all could be  California girls and wanted one of your own, then I am your girl.....  Kaia’s adoption fee is $250 and includes her spay, micro chip and current vaccinations. Last Hope requires that all of our animals be kept on year round heart worm preventative and as indoor dogs only. Our adoption process includes a background check, personal and vet reference checks as well as a home visit. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 4, 2024, 6:20 pm
