Story
Chewy born July 13, 17. He ist exactly a cuddly dog, but he does enjoy a cuddle on his terms. He spends a lot of his time behind the sofa or under the bed. He likes tight doggy pajamas, gets excited when he sees them, he likes to play tugofwar games with anything he has in his mouth. Enjoys shredding soft toys to cottony messes, finding the squeaker, playing with that long after it doesn’t squeak. I buy him cheap balls from chewy they squeak and he won’t play with any other and constantly looses them somehow. He knows the chewy ball purple or blue, it doesn’t matter. If you don’t mind face washings, chewy could be yours. When you know he likes you, he will press himself against you, look up into your face and pretend to bite your face while growling. Not sure if he’s allergic to turkey but something in the turkey and venison caused him diarrhea. He has a skiddish tummy and has diarrhea often. He doesn’t like strangers but if you hold him he does fine

Story
Meet Rio! Rio came to us as an owner surrender when her humans were moving and could not take her with. We believe she was born in February of 2020. Rio is currently around 50 pounds and we believe she would do best with older kids and adults. Rio is quite wary of strangers at first ( especially male humans ) but with time and patience she does get used to them. She goes for walks with our male dog walkers and does very well! We believe Rio would do okay with other dogs close to her size, and cats too with proper introduction. She is a sweet girl that adores attention, belly rubs, outdoor activities and giving lots of kisses once she is comfortable! Rio is VERY high energy so she will need a home where she is kept busy / played with a lot! A fence may be ideal so she can run run run! All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Fill out an application to adopt at freeborncountyhs.org When transitioning your new pet home please allow for at least 4-6 weeks for your pet to adjust to their new home. They will need this time to decompress, and adjust to a new routine and environment. During that time we will provide check ins and counseling to ensure a successful transition. Please review all basic adoption requirements listed on our website before applying. We take finding the right homes for the animals in our care very seriously. They deserve nothing but the best! Please allow 2-7 days for applications to be processed. If an animal is listed in foster care, these pets are not at our facility, but are in foster care homes. They are still available for adoption, and meet and greets are done with pre-approved applicants only. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email at freeborncohumanesociety@gmail.com, send us a message on Facebook, or call or text 507-377-8501.

All AHFK adoptions require an approved, completed application, a Veterinarian and Personal Reference Check, a smoke-free environment, and a home visit. Buddy's adoption fee is $300.00 All our dogs are completely vetted, spayed/neutered, and microchipped. We are currently accepting applications for Buddy. Buddy was surrendered to a Veterinary clinic in the Tulsa OK area. His owner had moved, out of country, and left Buddy with family members. The family did not want Buddy and surrendered him for euthanasia. The veterinary staff could not euthanize Buddy and kept him in a crate until they could find a rescue or adopter. Buddy lived in this crate for 40 days. Buddy needs a securely fenced yard as he loves to visit nearby neighbors and confiscate articles of property that do not belong to him. Buddy needs a human that will have time, patience, and love for him. He has been neglected and allowed to roam freely. He needs a routine and structure. He loves to be outside and thoroughly enjoys leash walking. Buddy shows some issues with resource guarding with other dogs. He has been through training and his new owner will have to carry through with positive reinforcement. We have not had an issue with guarding against humans. Buddy is of the Beagle breed, a natural hunter, therefore, we are looking for a home with a securely fenced yard and a family with one Pet Parent that is a stay-at-home parent, or one which works from home; a family that can help Buddy acclimate to her new surroundings and environment with compassion, love, and patience. Please allow 6-8 weeks for Buddy to acclimate to the changes in his life. We would also like Buddy to be the only dog. Meet and greets are scheduled upon approved, completed application. If interested in meeting Buddy, please complete the application found on our website: almosthomefoster.com

Story
Here's Lucy!! ....and she's got some 'splaining to do! She'd like you to know that she's beautiful, smart, funny and all of that, but she plays catch like an major leaguer - and she will play until you are exhausted :) She came in as a stray on New Year's Day. She is a Senior gal, but don't tell her that - she just wants to have fun!! Lucy would love to join your family and seems to do fine with kids. She doesn't seem to care much for cats, so a home without kitties is probably best as far as Lucy is concerned! She keeps a fairly clean kennel here at the shelter, so should just need a bit of training in her new home to get used to the new set up and she'll be ready to get out in the yard and play ball!! All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped.
