Story
Camden is a handsome boy who loves to run and play with dog friends in the play yard. When he runs "zoomies" at top speed you can't help but smile. He's happy to be with his favorite people and absolutely loves receiving pets and massages from those he trusts. Camden also has earned the reputation of being a calming influence on some anxious dogs here at the refuge. Camden is shy around new people and in new situations. He came to Alaqua as a puppy, along with his brother, two sisters, and their mother. Found as strays, it was apparent the four pups had not been socialized around people and were very scared when they first arrived. As time went by, and through the love and attention of dedicated staff and volunteers, the two brothers and two sisters slowly began to trust humans. Soon they were running, playing, and loving attention from human friends. Camden was the most shy and reserved of the four siblings. Camden will need a little time to feel comfortable and trust you, but once he does, you will gain a loyal and loving companion for life. He will thrive in a calm home environment with an adult person or couple who are patient and committed to helping him adjust to his new home. Camden might enjoy the right dog brother or sister to play with in a secure fenced backyard or cuddle with indoors. Because he is shy he is often overlooked, but for the right adopter who will give him a chance to open up, he will be a true gem

Story
Although Raven's story has a sad tone to it she has not let it harden her. She was found in a landfill and felt as unwanted as the piles of garbage that surrounded her. She was rescued, however it was a bumpy beginning. She was scared, yet in a paradoxical way she craved human safety and comfort. It's similar to that feeling of landing a life-changing opportunity, as you awkwardly try to fit into this new, much needed mold. Alaqua staff and volunteers firmly believe there is a place for every being at our table, and with time and love Raven found a fan club, then eventually a foster home. She has learned what it feels like to be wanted and loved. She is cuddly and loving with her foster parents. She keeps her foster parents entertained with her goofy side, like she is trying to make them laugh. She is very cooperative and listens when you want or don't want her to do something. She kept her soft, shy nature. She wants to share her heart, resiliency, triumph, and the power of never giving up. She benefits from having another dog in the household to show her the ropes and help her with her confidence. She will soon find out what it feels like to feel a part of her forever family and receive unconditional love.

Story
Available by Appointment only: A house isn't a home without Luke. He knows how to light up the whole room with his pure joy. It's in the way he plays with his toys, with pure gratitude. It's in the way he leans into you and buries his head in your lap as he waits patiently for affection and ear scratches. It's in the way he goes outside and lifts his head to the sky, smiling the whole time. He enjoys simple things such as long walks in the woods or finding some water to play in. His presence will remind you to stop and enjoy the small things. The peace he brings makes you know that if a shelter dog can be this happy for no apparent reason, so can you. When he's an office dog, he smiles at everyone that passes by, and in return people smile back at him creating a ripple effect of joy. If he can do that to an office, think what he can do for an entire home. If you would like a dog that is a best friend, a quiet supporter that will always be on your side, and a life long love, this dog may be your match. He does need to be the only dog though because he enjoys getting all of the attention!
