Story
Xena is an all black, all natural female Doberman mix who is small in stature weighing about 50 lbs. Xena is 11 yrs young with the energy of a 3 yr old pup. She came in needing a lot of groceries and has put on some weight but still needs to gain several more pounds. Xena is not pushy, aggressive or mean in any way. She came from a young family with very small children, other dogs and cats. Xena is great with children. I had her around my 8 yr old granddaughter who Xena followed everywhere. She's good with dogs and cats, no food aggression. She minds her own business and loves her crate. She rides well in the car. She has started enjoying being outside in the wonderful weather that we have been having but when darkness comes around she doesn't like to be outside. She has to have a little coaching to go out for the last time at night. She walks well on the leash and has no desire to be away from someone who she knows. She loves attention and will follow you everywhere to get a small pat on the head or treat. She is house trained, crate trained. Her previous owners didn't have the money to give her vet care so since DARE has had her, she has been thru it all. The vet techs love her and she is now UTD on vaccines and spayed. I'm sure she's glad it's all over with. She would be a good companion for another dog her size or smaller or would be great as an only dog or as a family dog. She would be a wonderful companion for a single person who would like to take walks and enjoy the weather. A sweeter dog you will not find. DAR&E adopts to MD, VA, DC, DE, eastern parts of WV and southern parts of PA. Please check with other Doberman rescues in areas not listed.

Story
Red here, and do I have a story to tell, and it is not always happy ;( I was dumped at the pound after being shot in the back leg. I am an absolute doll, so none of my rescuers really understand how someone could do this to me... I am literally only 8 months old. So despite my ruff beginning, I am a survivor and I am THRIVING in the rescue! I love everyone, I am playful and silly and all goofy BIG puppy. So my back leg was broken when shot, and it has been healing. The rescue's vet has determined that my leg is healed to the point that even though it is kind of crooked with a bump at my hock, it wouldn't benefit me to have it rebroken to repair it. I use my leg and my only limitation would be that I cannot be a running dog- I can however be a playing dog, I can be a cuddling dog and I can be a goofy dog. I am a Doberman and will likely be 75-80# full grown. And my new family needs to know my breed :) I am ready for a wonderful family to adopt me! I love everyone and am great with other dogs and all people. So hurry up and adopt me!! Local adoption fee is $300 (in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $650 (includes transport to your area)

Story
Meet Belize, or Bel if you prefer. She is a super sweet red/rust girl with natural ears and a docked tail. Bel is about 65 pounds and estimated to be around 6 years old. She was found stray so nothing is known about her background. Bel is a great combo of active and chill. She loves to play with toys and lives for a long walk. She needs leash work, but is manageable. She walks in a zig-zag most of the time, trying to see what's here then what's over there. She never barks at other dogs she sees and greets other dogs very nicely. She has not been off leash to play with another dog, but has gone to doggie social hour and after some initial uncertainty she just hung out. It seems that Bel isn’t used to riding in a car. She seems unsure of cars so she will not get into a car very easily. Once in the car, she may roam so she should travel with a seat belt to keep her from trying to climb into the front or rear areas of the car. Bel’s adopter will need to be patient and work to help her be more accepting of riding in a car. Bel doesn’t seem to have had any previous training but she learned to “Sit” in just a few days. Bel rarely barks and on the few occasions she has, it's been outside at noises on the other side of a privacy fence. Bel may have been crates excessively in her previous life. She will fret and try to break out of the crate so she needs a home that is willing to not crate her. Bel does fine lounging on her dog bed or on the couch while you're gone. She doesn't really get into anything while she's home alone as long as you take the proper precautions. Bel loves to swipe slippers, shoes, socks, and tissues. She is not food obsessed and does not counter surf. Bel does like treats, bones, and loves to chew on a kong. She should not be given fabric toys of any kind as she will eat the pieces she tears off. Bel isn't much of a snuggler, but as she gets more comfortable, she may curl up next to you on the couch. She never tries to get in the human beds. Bel is a great dog and any family would be lucky to have her. You won't be able to resist her "smile" when she's excited. Bel is fostered in VA. DAR&E adopts to MD, VA, DC, DE, eastern parts of WV and southern parts of PA. Please check with other Doberman rescues in areas not listed.

Story
Drey is a young neutered male Doberman who turned 2 on August 15, 2024. Drey is a handsome black/rust boy with cropped ears and a docked tail. Drey is a lover of life and if he had his way he'd want to sniff his way all around, frolicking and exploring new areas as well as familiar ones; meeting lots of people along the way and all at the same time having a supportive family by his side giving him lots of love, affection, and support. He does very well in the car. Drey takes multiple walks a day, mostly working on loose leash walking, but also for pure fun...and lots of sniffing! Drey finds human companionship and human contact comforting. Training has been a fun way to engage Drey and also tire him out. Cues he's been working on include "come", "(lay) down", "wait/release", "stay", "paws up", "touch", "leave it", and "look at me". In addition to learning "place", he's also learning many calming exercises. As Drey's "working consistently on obedience training" just started at the beginning of August, adopters will need to be willing to work with Drey on consistency to ensure his forward progress. Drey is currently taking a Basic Skills class to help him work on his basic skills in a controlled yet higher level of distractions environment. In addition, he's continuing to work on good leash walking and maintaining self-control when other dogs are around. Drey is now able to stay in a crate for two 3-4 hour sessions per day with a lunch break in between. He has free roam at night and most often sleeps on his dog bed in the living room. Drey is still working on his manners around other dogs. Adopters looking for a playmate companion for their family dog may be considered on a case by case basis, provided that the other dog matches his overall size, energy, and play style. Because Drey is squirrel reactive, it is unlikely he would do well with a family cat. Due to his current young-dog mannerisms, an adult only household or a household with children 16 or older is recommended. Households with children 12 or older and with Doberman experience may be considered on a case by case basis. Adoptive homes must have a fenced yard as Drey's a dog that needs to stretch his legs and play. Home and back yard play is not sufficient for Drey. Because he is a young active dog, adopters must be willing to provide multiple enrichment sessions a day whether it be walking, training, or outings that are at the right pace yet not too overwhelming. Drey was given up by his former home because he was too much for them. Drey is such an incredible dog and he deserves a home that meets his needs. In his foster home Drey is receiving 2 out and about adventures per day to provide mental stimulation, exercise, training (his new walking cues are "stop" and "turn!") and socialization. Starting with low stimulus (and squirrel free!) areas such as parking lots and parks without other people or dogs Drey has progressed to adventures at Tractor Supply, Co. Lowe's, watching kids play at a splash park, and even a baseball game! Drey will do best in a home that enjoys outdoor activities and also the fun, interaction, and rewards of training. And time for cuddles, kisses, and caresses! Adopters having young Doberman experience is helpful, but not mandatory. Drey is being fostered in Maryland. DAR&E adopts to MD, VA, DC, DE, eastern parts of WV and southern parts of PA. Please check with other Doberman rescues in areas not listed.

IF YOU ARE VIEWING THIS LISTING ON PETFINDER OR ADOPT-A-PET, please visit: Caninesandkittiesrescue.org to access adoption requirements, more information and pictures. Meet Little Poppi - Poppi is about 5 months old and weighs 18.5 lbs. We think she looks like a Dobby/Shepherd mix, but that is just a guess! Poppi is a bit shy right now, but she is doing great in her foster home. She enjoys running around the yard with the resident dog and enjoys cuddling with the resident cat. Poppi will require a forever home with another young dog or with a cat who likes to play and cuddle. Poppi is house and crate trained. Young puppies will require an adopter who is at home a good portion of the day to continue training - no exceptions! This puppy is up to date on age-appropriate vaccines and microchipped. This puppy will need to be spayed at 6 months of age. The Adoption Fee for this puppy $400.00. The adoption fee for this dog is $400, which helps with the cost of routine vet care. This fee DOES NOT INCLUDE spay/neuter if the pup is not already spayed/neutered. If the animal you are adopting is not already spayed/neutered, you will be required to sign a contract legally obligating you to have the animal altered. A $100.00 fee will be returned to the adopter once the animal has been sterilized. We will provide information on this process during the approval process. ***You must be at least 25 years of age to adopt from CKRescue*** ***Note that puppy adoption fees most often help generate revenue that goes towards older, special needs animals that need our help. Surgeries, heartworm treatment, boarding costs and/or all things that often result in adoptable dogs and cats being left behind to be euthanized. So, adopting a puppy saves not just one life, but many! ***Please note that our first step in approving adoption applicants is to complete a vet check. Vetting of current and past pets is very important to us, thus we will be speaking with the vet(s) listed on your application to ensure that your current and previous pet(s) are kept up to date on vaccines (including rabies), spayed or neutered, maintained on appropriate monthly preventatives and examined annually by your vet.*** Our organization cannot guarantee the exact breed of any animal in our care. The breed listed is based on any background we may have been provided, and/or the general appearance of the animal. **Please visit www.caninesandkittiesrescue.org to complete our non-binding application.**
