We got Ripley as an energetic puppy at 8 weeks old. She immediately took on the velcro tendencies of a doberman—always within an arms reach. She trained very well with what we were able to work with her on— things like sit, stay, come, down, off, leave it, take it, wait, and twirl. She still struggles with heel, she’s very good at not jumping up onto people when you stay consistent. The moment a guest invites her up, then she forgets all she learned and embraces the opportunity. She loves car rides and does very well off-leash in our yard, at dog parks and the beach. The heartbreaking reason we have to rehome— We always knew young children made her anxious. But after 4 years of no bites, she’s bitten my toddler twice in the last month. With Texas’ one-bite laws, I cannot take both the financial liability or the risk to my own children, or visiting guests. Ideally, she would find an adult-only home so she isn’t anxious and gets all the extra attention she craves.
