Candi is a fun loving, playful, active Shepherd mix, who is fully vetted, HW neg and microchipped. Though she does get along with most dogs, she would probably do best in a home where she is the only fur baby, receiving all the attention. Candi is house broken, but as far as being crated...she prefers to not be confined, so we don't currently crate her. Candi loves to go for walks, though she is very strong and wants to lead! She needs a strong hand and leash training. She's a smart girl, and has learned to open the back door at her foster home. Candi LOVES to have her people with her most of the time, so a family who is home most of the time, would be ideal. Percy is a goofy, enthusiastic dog who loves to stay by your side—he’s the ultimate companion. He thrives on companionship and would do best in a home where at least one family member can be with him most of the time. Percy is incredibly friendly with people and gets along well with female dogs, but he struggles with male dogs in the same household. That said, he’s perfectly fine with doggy playdates and outings, as long as introductions are done properly and it’s not a permanent living arrangement. Sadly, we need to rehome Percy due to increasing same-sex aggression with other dogs as he gets older, as well as the arrival of a new baby. We’re seeking a loving home that can meet his needs. Carla was adopted in October 2020 but due to Covid, the owner could no longer afford to keep her. She is very active and loves chasing balls. Carla can be protective in the house. Her ideal companion will be a submissive young male. Carla likes to be the boss. She is not crate trained and does not do well in a crate or if left alone too long. She guards her home and needs someone who understands this breed as a working and protective dog. When first meeting new people she should be approached with caution - do not crowd her. The adopter needs to let Carla approach for affection until you have gained her trust. When a dog has been moved out of a home they become wary and it takes time for them to understand the new adopter is the forever home. She will need time to adjust and trust you and she will be a lifelong best friend to you. She may not do well with younger children as they have a tendency to want to get too close to befriend a dog. Skittles might be the perfect family dog. Although we haven`t had her around kids, she is sweet and calm. She does fine with all the other large dogs and is not food aggressive. The previous owner who had her almost three years said she did not get along with their small female dog. Please bring any pets with you to meet her. She takes treats gently and will sit when asked. Skittles walked easily on leash and is outgoing and affectionate. She didn`t jump up on people and loves attention. This little gal appears to be perfect for anyone who will love her, but a family with children might consider her for her gentle demeanor. Since Skittles is not housed at DRNT, let us know if you want to meet her so we can get her to Grand Prairie.
