Story
Hi there! My name is Nomad, and I’m a two-year-old male Doberman Pinscher, weighing about 80 pounds. A kind lady found me wandering as a stray and brought me to the shelter, where I’ve been waiting for my forever family. I may look tough, but I’m really just a sweet, loving boy who wants to find a home where I can feel safe and loved. I’m loyal, smart, and eager to please, so I’ll be your perfect companion whether we’re going on adventures or just relaxing at home. If you’re looking for a best friend, I’d love to meet you!Fill out an adoption application online at: https://www.hshcky.org/

Story
Who can resist this sweet dobie face? This is Bruce, he came to the shelter and eventually to BDR as a stray. We are estimating him to be around 8 years old. It would be hard for you to find a sweeter boy, everyone that meets him (including everyone at the vet office) says he is just a doll. Bruce loves all people and loves his toys. If he was allowed, he would carry a toy around all day. He gets along well with kitties and would do fine with a non dominant dog (prefers the girls!). Here is the sad part, Bruce's vet suspects he has wobblers or something similar. The only way to truly diagnose is with expensive test that won't really change the course of treatment or outcome. You can tell the way he walks there is an issue but not in his spirit. Bruce believes he can do anything he wants. Short walks around the yard and a comfy place to sleep is what this boys needs. It's hard to welcome a dobie into your family that you know has a medical issue that will not get better but Bruce deserves a chance to live out his life with a family that adores him as much as he will adore them.

Story
Natalie joined BDR for a quite disturbing reason. She was a stray in a shelter and was set to be euthanized because she was too skinny to spay and put on the adoption floor. That was an unacceptable reason for so many of us we knew she had to make the long trip to our rescue. The reason she was so thin? She's young and no one fed her enough. No medical issues, just neglect. Natalie is a happy dobie pup with a zest for life. We estimate her to be around a year old. She gets along great with other dogs, provided they can deal with her boundless energy. She's ok with kitties but they can be fun (on her part only) to chase. Natalie will need to be in a home with another dog because she is still learning to be a dog and takes comfort in a K9 friend. A physical fence is an absolute requirement, no exceptions. Since Natalie didn't seem to have a great puppyhood she is still learning manners. She will "puppy nip" and doesn't know boundaries around people. For this reason she will do best in a family with older children. If you are looking for a beautiful fawn girl with lots of love to give, this may be the one you have been searching for. Keep in mind she will need lots of structure and training.

Story
The name Greta means Pearl. This girl is more like a diamond…in the rough (ruff?) Yes, she’s a beautiful, petite 50-pound Doberman but she has some behavior issues. Greta ended up in rescue after a fatal incident with a small dog in her home. Therefore, she will NOT be placed in a home with other small dogs, cats, or critters smaller than she is. This girl has what we call a HIGH PREY DRIVE. We will also require her new family to have a PHYSICALLY FENCED yard (that means no underground fencing). She gets along great with dogs her size and energy level yet will escalate during play and may need timeouts to calm down. Previous Doberman experience is highly suggested for her adopter. Additionally, Greta may exhibit the Pincsher part of being a Doberman Pinscher and may nip at strangers. She is also a counter surfer and jumper. Food is everything to Greta! Her food, your food, another dog’s food. It’s all supposed to be hers, she thinks. This cutie pie likes to greet you by jumping up on you. Greta would NOT do well in a home with young children because of this jumping and the likelihood of knocking over a little person. All these behaviors are being worked on and Greta will need an owner committed to continuing with obedience training and positive reinforcement. Her exuberant personality and graceful stride would make Greta an excellent agility competitor. She has great recall and loves to run off-leash, when given the chance. Her current foster does 60-90 minutes of daily exercise with her to increase her stamina and help burn off her energy. Greta would greatly benefit if she is given a job to do! Greta is crate trained and will come with her own impact crate. (She’s an escape artist). Housebreaking is an ongoing task and when crated, she scratches to let you know when it’s time to go out. This soon-to-be 18 month old has a lot of affection to give. She wants to please but is at that terrible teenager stage and knows how to use her cuteness to make you give into her antics. There’s an award winning level snuggler and a great canine passenger inside that petite frame of hers. Knows basic commands and has the absolute cutest little Milk Dud eyes. With dedication to help Greta to overcome her issues, she came become a precious gem, whether a polished pearl or a sparkly diamond.

Story
Tsunami came to our rescue from a shelter in the south, he was part of a cruelty case. We are not exactly sure how old he is but somewhere around 1 to 2 years old, however he has nothing but puppy energy. His foster says Tsunami is the sweetest boy and always smiling. His play style with other dogs is pretty rough so he will need a friend of his own size and willing to tolerate puppy play. No little dogs or cats due to high prey drive. From his rocky start he is now learning to be a well-mannered dog but still needs lot of patience and help with this. Obedience training will be a must. Taking a class with your new dobie family member is a great way to bond along with teaching him some manners. If you are looking for an energetic dobie boy that gives lots of love to his people, then maybe Tsunami is your boy. A physically fenced yard is a requirement. No little kids (at least 10 years and up) since he still has a lot of energy and needs someone to focus a lot of their attention on his training.

Story
Ellie is a fun-loving firecracker of a girl! Just shy of 1 year old (turns 1 at the end of October) she is chalk FULL of dobie puppy energy and sass! She gets along great w/her 2 foster brothers (a 1.5-year-old male Doberman and a 3-year-old male Aussie/Lab/Border Collie mix) and is pretty respectful with the 3-year-old female Doberman staying on vacation with us! Miss Ellie knows the basics, sit, lay down, wait and is pretty decent w/her recall (when she wants to be) and has plenty of smarts to learn more! She is crate trained, but she can be dramatic and throw a tantrum on occasion, she would rather be out playing. She LOVES to go on walks but is a mild puller and weaver. Ellie is a super sweet, smart, and affectionate girl, but due to her high puppy energy she can run through a room like a little jack rabbit wrecking ball as well as get a little puppy mouthy when playing. Ellie would thrive with an active family with a big, physically fenced back yard and a buddy (or two) and maybe some older children to keep her busy!
