Story
If you like your dogs sweet, sensitive, lap-loving and with a calming presence, Forest is the boy for you, plain and simple.
Let’s start with looks because my goodness he is striking! I don’t think there is anything cuter than a little dog that looks like a mini version of an otherwise large breed, and Forest gives mini cattle dog without any of the drive that is typical for. The breed. Forest is petite, polka-dotted and spotted with the most expressive, soft eyes. At just 16 lbs, his desire to be an adored lap dog perfectly suit him. We estimate he’s about 6 months old, so he may have a little more growing to do but given we cannot guarantee age in rescue, he also could be closer to a year and otherwise near full-grown. Either way, he is destined for small-dog life and he wouldn’t change that for anything.
When I first met him I was immediately enamored with him but I sat close by and let him make the first move. Within a few minutes he slowly approached and within a few minutes he gently crawled into my lap. If it was up to me I would have sat there with him forever, his presence is so calming! Its almost like he melts into you! It is easy to see Forest is still learning about the world but the one thing he has mastered is his presence and the way to quietly steal a heart.
Forest is incredibly loving, but he’s not a dog who will immediately bounce into a new home ready to go.He is going to observe and be very respectful of the space while he soaks it all in. He thrives on gentle energy, understanding, and a calm environment. His dream home has a touch of zen and a warm vibe. This boy is not meant for a house with a steady stream of people in and out, you could almost say he is allergic to chaos. He is a guru who values peace and coziness. A house with a yard would be best simply because of how busy apartment life can be for a dog, plus he loves to lay in the grass and soak in the sun. As for family life, Forest welcomes littles and lit up when he met a 4 and 5 year old that were playing with building blocks together. He walked right in and immediately went over to greet them. He was mindful of their builds and gave gentle kisses before going and laying down nearby. Anyone with kids will acknowledge they can be chaotic but calm children do exist and Forest would be an amazing companion for a family with kids who love to sit on the floor and play over running wild playing cops and robbers. Forest clearly found comfort in their presence and it was so heartwarming to see. Someone equated it the “Butterfly Room” vs the “Caterpillar Room” in Toy Story 3. If you get the reference you will understand- Forest is a Butterfly Room boy.
His leash skills need work, and a bustling urban area or apartment building wouldn’t suit his current comfort level or temperament. He needs a safe yard to explore, a quiet routine, and a person who understands the value of going slow.
Forest has been so fortunate and is fostered in a loving home, which has given him a good foundation—he’s house-trained, respectful indoors, and was an easy addition, getting along with all their dogs and cats. On walks, he’ll stay by your side and rarely reacts to outside distractions. It is worth acknowledging , although he has basic leash skills, he is not leash savvy in a variety of environments. If walking in a very busy area it is easy to imagine it may overwhelm him at the moment. His foster family is regularly taking him on outings so he is slowly learning more and more about the big, wide world.
He lives with a variety of dogs, big to small and was introduced to new dogs during an afternoon with us. Although he was initially unsure, he handled the wild energy but clearly had a “type.” The calmer dogs that did not push for him to play or to get his attention were the ones he gravitated to. If he was taking on the role of +1, he could best be described as, quiet, observant boy seeks confident, mature, respectful female for companionship. I would go so far as to say, he not looking for a playmate as much as a calm canine companion.
Forest also did well meeting our house cat and from what we saw we feel he could live with any temperament of feline friend. His approach was respectful, curious, and non-threatening. He calmly laid on the couch and let the cat approach him, never once was bothered by him pestering him, and didn’t show even a vague interest in chasing him.
The TLDR version- Forest is a total sweetheart with promises of quiet affection, gentle presence, and a deeply rewarding bond.

Our rescue has a 2 acre property in Texas where we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group trainings and socialization play groups to keep dogs adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress!
Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond.
Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.
The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.
While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs.
It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS:

Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option. The dog you've found online is not only lucky to be in our program, but also incredibly fortunate to have caught your eye. Thank you for considering adoption and for joining us in our mission!
