Story
Hi everypawdy. The name is Oscar. Oscar Mayer Wiener to be exact. 🌭 I am 1 year old and weigh 12 lbs. I am such a sweet boy. I get along with dogs of all sizes but prefer the small ones. I need a doggy friend in my home who is very well rounded, good with humans and animals, and most importantly LOVES to cuddle with me. Ideally my cuddle buddy is small like me too! I get along with all humans too. I’m still learning hands reaching for me are a good thing so you’ll have to be patient with me. As I learn to trust you, I’ll stop and let you pick me up. But I am a flight risk and door dasher. I will need a securely fenced yard because of this. I am also working on my leash skills. I don’t have it nailed down yet so I wouldn’t say I’m leash trained but I’m working really hard and making progress. I’m potty trained on a schedule. I am not a fan of being locked in a crate, although I do enjoy taking naps in them with my foster sibling. When you have to leave the house, I do best when left free with my foster sibling in a dog safe room. If you are gone too long, I know to use my potty pad that’s in my doggy room. I do get very excited for meal time and I might bark or whine at you to hurry up with my food. But other than that, I’m a pretty quiet guy. I’m enjoying starting to play with toys. I love the crinkly ones and squeaky ones. So much fun squeaking a squeaker and playing fetch! I enjoy all treats which helps me work on my training because I’m really food motivated. I like bully sticks, yak chews, beef trachea, kongs, and lick mats. You name it, I’ll probably love it. I do well in the car when I ride in my doggy hammock with a doggy friend and with a seatbelt to keep me secure. If I ride in a crate I get car sick a lot easier and it gives me more anxiety. I do great for bath time. I LOVE to cuddle. I will snuggle next to you or on your lap when we are on the couch and I will cuddle you all night long in bed and I’ll probably sneak in some kisses too. I love soft cozy blankets to snuggle into. If you can be patient, gentle, and loving with me, I will continue to blossom into such an amazing dog. You won’t be disappointed. Oh one last note, you might be wondering why my hair isn't grown in perfectly. After many vet appointments, tests and treatments, my dermatologist vet believes I have ischemic dermatopathy/vasculitis. This is a non-contagious condition and it doesn't bother me one bit. I'm currently on some medication to see if it will help my hair grow back but only time will tell. For now, I hope you love me just the way I am. **due to being a flight risk, Oscar Mayer will need to stay within 60 miles of the Twin Cities metro area**

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $400 plus taxWalter is a goofy and cuddly guy who wants to be near his people. He loves laying in the sun, going on walks, treats & toys and being under the covers.    Walter needs a fully fenced yard as he can be quite the escape artist. He likes to run for short bursts in the yard and find smells to roll in.  Walter gets along with his two resident dogs, but is still learning polite greetings with new dogs.   Walter is very curious, and needs someone who can be patient and reassure him. He is still working on leash training and is currently demonstrating some reactivity with other dogs. Based on the fosters observations we beleive that Walter may be hard of hearing.   Walter is left home with the resident dogs for a few hours at a time. He is known to be a snoop and counter surfer, so he is put in a room with our resident dog. He will settle when left with a doggy friend.    Walter picks up on patterns and routines quickly. He is not a quiet boy and will express his needs.   At this time, we do not how Walter does with kids or cats. Walter tends to be curious, cautious and skittish around new animals and meeting people outside the home.    Currently we are working on basic obedience and leash etiquette. Walter seems to have some reduced hearing and vision. We suspect it's genetic/congenital. He does not seem to be in any pain from it and we are working with MARS Vet to keep tabs on it. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $300 plus taxRowe, also known as Frank, is a wonderfully polite and sweet gentleman. He is very well-mannered in the home and quickly adapted to his surroundings. When he first arrived, he was curious about the scents of other dogs and showed some initial interest in marking, but he was easily redirected without any issues. While the kennel isn't his favorite place, he handles it well, settling down within 10-15 minutes. His true happiness comes from spending time with his humans—whether cuddling on a lap or snuggling under the covers. He walks nicely on a leash and would be a great companion for a leisurely walker. Frank recently had some dental work and is missing a few teeth, but he still eats dry kibble and enjoys softer foods. He is generally quiet, only occasionally barking when joining in with the excitement of other dogs. He gets along well with other dogs, though he appreciates having his personal space respected and will give a gentle warning growl if needed. His behavior around cats is unknown. Frank would thrive in a home where someone is often present to provide the love and lap snuggles he adores. He also seems to respond well to the name Frank and would make a loving and loyal companion!   If you have previously applied with us please email placement@midwestanimalrescue.org to reactivate your application with new interest. All fees are subject to MN sales tax and a processing fee at the time of adoption. Story
Libby is a sweet 2 1/2 year old Dachshund mix. She does very well with multiple dogs in the home (all sizes).   She is treat motivated and in the process of house training.   Settles down at night nicely.  Skiddish at sudden movement.  Does not liked to be surprised with a hug or extending out arms.  Rides nice and quiet in car.  Does not like leashing.    Has a loud bark and would not recommend for shared walls.  A big lap dog once she warms up.  Slow to warmup but when she does she’s a love bug. Lots of energy and she would need regular exercise to help get her energy out    She is learning how to be a dog as she came from hoarding situation in Arkansas.  A very pretty girl who doesn't like the cold and refuses peeing outside in the cold.     She currently has a case of mange but it’s being taken care of by medicated baths and Credilio.   In time either patience and training she will be great member of family.  Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $475.00 Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 25, 2025, 2:25 pm

Story
Mary is a sweet and snuggly dachshund mix.  In our house we call her Tootsie Roll. She is estimated to be about 3.5 years old and has had puppies.  She loves to play with other dogs.  She is a huge snuggler and loves to cuddle up with you on the couch.  She enjoys running around the backyard and exploring.  We have taken her on walks and she does well on the leash and enjoys going on a walk.  She is pretty much potty trained but you do need to let her out quite often and watch for her signals.  She likes her kennel and dog bed.  She will go into her kennel during the day and lay down.  She sleeps all night in her kennel  Mary is very food motivated.  We have been working on telling her down, and out, when we are in the kitchen.  She gets along well with other dogs and plays well with them.  She is curious about the cat and will sniff her and try to play with her.  She plays with some toys but really likes being with her people.  She will bark occasionally if our other dog is barking or she's excited someone is home.  Mary is just a lovebug that wants to be with her humans and snuggle. She is smart and eager to learn.   Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Story
Peanut was unfortunately abandoned and basically either left tied around a bush or put in a kennel for the first 6 months of his life. I rescued him when animal control was called and I’ve had him since about August 2024. I believe he was born in December, 2023. He was neutered a few weeks ago. He is a good dog but does have some behavioral issues. He is very stubborn and doesn’t want to listen. He’s just too much for me to handle with my current living situation and inability to get him exercise as he needs. He is high energy at times yet also very snuggly and relaxed. He is struggling to learn he can’t jump on others when he’s excited. He’s a typical Bully Bassett. Needs a loving home with someone who can spend more time with him. I think having other pets could also be beneficial to get his energy out and occupy his time so he doesn’t get so sad when his owner leaves.
