Story
Max I was loved by one family his whole life and we have all his records from puppyhood on. Unfortunately his parents needed to enter a retirement home that didn’t allow dogs. Max does have some ongoing medical issues. He takes phenobarbital daily for seizures. They are totally controlled on the med, but he needs his daily pills. It’s about $20 a month. He has a partially collapsed trachea (super common for the breed) so he does sneeze out some snot occasionally and reverse sneezes. This requires nothing. Just something to be aware of. He is nuetered, utd on all his shots and chipped. We just had a full blood panel done as well to check his levels. All is well. He is a very snuggly and sweet guy and will play with toys. He is fine with other dogs and cats. Best for older kids and he’s an older guy who would appreciate calmer house. Rides great in a car, really just an all around great little dude. He is long haired so does need the occasional grooming. He’s fostered in Omaha

Story
Rosie is an 8 year old female daschund mix who does NOT want to hear you call her an "ole lady". This sassy girl used 2024 to fine tune her diet, close her smartwatch rings and shed some unwanted pounds.  She is now sporting a newly contoured waistline and is ready to hit the dating scene again.  But Rosie doesn't want to be known just for her beautiful body.  Her personality is her greatest attribute.  A staff and volunteer favorite, she loves to spend quality time in the lobby chewing on a bone, playing with toys or snuggling in the blankets.  When a human comes into the lobby, she is eager to greet them and request a gentle tummy rub or a smooch.  Rosie is very serious about her fitness routine.  She is all business on her walks and prefers a brisk pace.  Rosie has done well around most other dogs, especially males dogs who are her size or smaller.  We have not cat tested her yet.  During her time in a foster home, she was potty trained once she learned the routine.  Rosie is enjoying her youthful appearance and is healthy enough to enjoy many more years of fun if her humans keep her on a strict diet with plenty of exercise.  Apply to meet our amazing Rosie! The adoption fee is $200 and covers age appropriate vaccines, a microchip, and a spay/neuter. We're open from 12-4 PM every day EXCEPT Wednesday! Did you know you don't need to have an appointment to visit our available cats and dogs***? Simply drop by and if you find a potential new furry friend, you can fill out an application on the day you visit. Go to townandcountryanimalrescue.org to fill out our digital application. Applications are typically processed in 3-5 business days. Once you're approved, you can return on the date and time set up by your adoption counselor, with your family and pets for a meet and greet. If it goes well, you can take your new best friend home on the meet and greet day! ***Please note that animals in foster homes cannot be viewed at our rescue, and appointments are still required to meet them. Story
Chica is a 4 year old dachshumd basset mix who was transported to us from a high kill shelter in Oklahoma. Based on our initial work with Chica, we suspect she has had a rough start in life.  She is very fearly and slow to trust.  We suspect she will be good with other dogs once she gains more confidence.  She loves to lounge around in her comfy bed and relax. Chica is not used to wearing a collar or a leash, so we will work on this skill before we start daily walks.  We expect that with time and patience, Chica will come out of her shell, become more comfortable with human attention and learn how to be a dog.  We are certain she will become an amazing member of a patient family whose pace is slow and routine is consistent.  Her ideal home will likely be adult only or with older kids who will read her cues and respect her personal space.  The adoption fee is $350 + tax and covers age-appropriate vaccines, a microchip, and a spay/neuter.  We're open from 12-4 PM every day EXCEPT Wednesday! Story
THIS POST WILL BE REMOVED WHEN THE DOG IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE. INQUIRIES ABOUT THE ADOPTION STATUS WILL NOT BE RETURNED. Single 8 year old chocolate dapple wirehair male looking for serious relationship. Enjoys playing with toys, chewing bones, wrestling with buddies, and snuggling. A bit timid at first, has been let down and hurt before, but with patience, willing to build a loving, trusting relationship with the right person. Meet Kringle, he's single and ready to mingle. Kringle was recently released from a commercial breeding facility and has decided that a life of freedom is fantastic. Kringle is an 8 yr old (DOB 7/9/16) dachshund that loves being around other dogs of all sizes. He likes to play and wrestle with his canine foster brothers, and also loves to curl up and snuggle with them. He will need a resident "emotional support dog." This resident dog needs to be confident and not afraid of humans, so they can help teach Kringle to trust. He would love a playmate and a snuggle buddy, and he's not picky about size or breed. He was doing fine with cats, even cuddling with them, but one of his foster brothers has started teaching him to chase them, so might be best not to have cats. Kringle has the best mohawk on the top of his head. Unfortunately, that's most of his hair. His coat is very thin, even bare in areas. We don't know if it's due to poor nutrition, unsanitary living conditions, lack of vet care or some hereditary issue. Or a combo of everything. He has grown some fuzzy hair since being with us, but we don't think he will ever have a thick coat. So he will need some basic care to help keep his skin healthy, such as sunblock in the summer, moisturizer as needed and sweaters and coats in the winter. This gent looks very handsome in sweaters, so dressing up isn't a problem for him. Kringle is doing great on his potty training. He's only had one accident in the house and even goes to the door when he needs to potty. He's not so fond of the kennel. He barks for a bit after being put in his kennel, but then will settle and lay down. He's been eating his meals in his kennel to help him associate the kennel with good things. Kringle is not leash trained, so he will need a securely fenced yard. He doesn't trust humans, so if he got away from you, he would not come back when called. So a securely fenced yard is a must for his safety. As mentioned, Kringle will need a patient and understanding forever home that is willing to work with him to build trust. He spent 8 years in the breeding facility living a life of neglect and abuse, so it will take time for him to learn that not all humans are out to hurt him. You have to get down on his level to be able to pick him up. But even then, you need to be calm and patient, because if you scare him, he will try to run or warn you to back off by nipping at you. For this reason, no kids. Kringle has been learning to trust his fosters, and will climb up on the couch to curl up next to them and rest his head on their laps. Kringle definitely wants to be loved, he just needs time to overcome the trauma of his past. He's ready to take the chance on love if you are. This handsome eligible bachelor is ready to enjoy his new life of freedom, but cautiously. If you have the love and patience to work with Kringle, and you have a confident dog that's ready for a new best buddy, fill out an app today to adopt Kringle. The suggested adoption donation for Kringle is a minimum of $300 and goes toward the high cost of veterinary care for our rescue dogs.Wag N Train Terrier Rescue adopts to an extended geographical area as long as we can locate a local volunteer to perform the required home visit. Approved adopters are required to travel to Omaha, NE to pick up their newly adopted dog. We do not arrange transport, or fly our rescue dogs without a "pet nanny". All of our dogs that come from a commercial breeding facility require a securely fenced yard AND a resident companion dog, unless the dog's bio states otherwise. Please note, invisible or underground fencing is not considered secure or appropriate containment. Adoption applications can be found at www.wagntrainterrierrescue.com/adoption-information
