Story
Hello, I'm Prim! I'm a 1.5 year old Dachsund mix. I came with my two babies and now I've done my duty and I won't have to have babies ever again!! I'm sweet and will trust you if you give me time and treats.  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2353877##

Story
Meet Mac! This happy go lucky boy is around 5 years old and is a Dachshund mix. He does have vision issues. He can see, but bot 100%. He is the perfect medium sized dog weighing about 30 pounds. He loves going on car rides and going for walks. He would prefer to be the only pet in the home as he does not like dogs being up in his face and sharing his toys. As you can tell from all his pictures he always has a smile on his face and loves getting all the attention. He is neutered, current on vaccines, negative for heartworm, and microchipped.

Story
Riley is a sweet girl! She is a 10 year old, 20 pound chihuahua mix. She came to Charming Pet Rescue after her human passed away. She arrived at the rescue with her two sisters, one brother and two cats. After losing her human, Riley is still getting used to her new environment. Riley is just now allowing for you to pet her. Riley will need time for you to gain her trust but she is making progress every day. Riley enjoys naps on the couch and rolling around outside in the grass. She is working on losing a few pounds. While her foster sisters and brother run around, she enjoys walking a few laps in the backyard following her foster mom.Riley is house trained and sleeps in her crate. She gets along well with the three dogs in the foster home. She recently received dental work and is fully vetted.IMPORTANT: Please read all below, especially if you live outside of Texas, which is where our rescue is located.Apply to adopt on our website: https://www.charmingpetrescue.org/adoptAll of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots.ALL of our animals are located in Boerne, TX, but transport after adoption is available to other states for a $300 fee for dogs or an additional fee varying by location for cats. If you are seeing our pets posted in your state, that's because you live near a transport stop, they are not currently at that location. Petfinder lists our pets as 'Out of Town' pets at other locations, and Adopt-a-Pet lists our location as a Transport stop. Those are currently the only options they offer to make this clear, so we put this description we've put at the bottom to explain it. You can read more about transport here: www.charmingpetrescue.org/transportWe understand transport is not an option for everyone, but we offer it at the cost we pay the transport company for those who wish to adopt from us.May 5, 2025, 11:29 am

Story
Molly originally came from a shelter that has now closed down and was then given away on Facebook to a young family with cats. Unfortunately that family didn’t realize Molly very much does not like cats or any other kinds of animals that are in her old lady business. She’s said to be fine with other dogs that have manners with her. We think Molly would do best in a quiet home with older or no children and definitely no cats or rambunctious dogs. She’s absolutely wonderful and loves love and attention! She will be your best movie buddy on the couch and won’t have any accidents in the house as she is perfectly potty trained as long as you make sure you’re around to let her out. She’s very food motivated and knows all of the basics including sit, down, shake. Fill out an app if you think Molly would be a great addition to your quiet home!!
