Story
Hoss and Little Joe Bio Please ensure you understand and can meet the needs of this bonded pair before applying.   Energy level: medium Potty training: Yes Fenced yard: yes, required Shared walls: not suitable  People: all Dogs: all  Other: bonded pair    Overview Looking for double the love and entertainment? Meet Hoss and Little Joe, a bonded pair of dachshund mixes who will fill your home with energy and affection.   Hoss is a 5-year-old white and tan boy who weighs 26 lbs, while Little Joe is a 3-year-old dark red pup who weighs 15 lbs. These two were found running loose in Columbia, SC and were never claimed. They're absolutely inseparable and must be adopted together—they're a package deal! Both boys are incredibly sweet and affectionate, and watching them interact is pure joy. When you ask "who wants to go outside?" the enthusiastic barking begins as they get so excited to run around together. Little Joe loves to wrestle Hoss while they're zooming around the yard, and it's the cutest thing you'll ever see. Environment Hoss and Little Joe need a fenced yard where they can run, play, and burn off their energy together. They are potty trained as long as taken out regularly and do not have accidents in the house. These boys are quite vocal—they love to bark when they're excited (especially about going outside) and when people approach—so a home without shared walls would be best. They can be left alone for a little while and do okay, though they're happiest when their people are around. Neither has been crate trained in their current foster home, so that's unknown territory. They love walks but need some leash training—they're enthusiastic but not quite polished yet. Pets & People Hoss and Little Joe absolutely love people. They bark as they approach new folks, but their tails are wagging the whole time and they're looking for pets and affection. They're the same way with strangers—all bark (literally) and lots of love. With other dogs, they needed a bit of time to adjust. For the first 2-3 days in their foster home, they barked at the resident dogs. By day 6, Little Joe decided he wanted to sit next to his foster mom on the couch. By day 10, Hoss joined them on the couch (though not quite ready to sit right next to her). By day 16, Hoss had claimed his own spot next to his foster mom. Once they warm up, they're wonderful with other dogs and would likely do well in a home with or without canine siblings. Both boys finish their food quickly but are respectful of other dogs who are still eating—no food guarding or pushiness. They can be a little snatchy when given treats, but they're working on being gentle and are making progress. Health & Special Needs Hoss and Little Joe are both on Hills Science Diet small bites weight management food to keep them at healthy weights. They also take fish oil capsules to help with their dry skin, which keeps their coats looking and feeling better.  Location Hoss and Little Joe are available for adoption from Greensboro, GA and both boys do fine in the car, they handled an hour-long car ride from Augusta to their foster home without any issues. Please email Pattyp@littlepawsdr.org with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Hoss and Little Joe is $325.00  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 7, 2026, 4:53 pm

Story
Toby Bio Please ensure you understand and can meet the needs of this dog before applying. Energy level: high Potty training: trained (may need pee pads between walks) Fenced yard: no Shared walls: suitable People: adults (not yet tested with children) Dogs: unknown (mixed reactions, meet and greet required if other dogs in home) Other:  Overview Looking for a devoted companion who will stick to you like glue and shower you with affection? Toby the black and brown dachshund might be your ultimate velcro dog. Toby is a wonderful 4-year-old purebred dachshund weighing 19.6 lbs. He came to Little Paws when his owner became terminally ill and was unable to continue caring for him. This lovable boy is absolutely everything—his foster parent raves that he's wonderful and very lovable in every way. Toby wants nothing more than to be "stuck" to his person as much as possible. He thrives on love, attention, and being an integral part of your daily life. If you're looking for an independent dog, Toby isn't your guy—but if you want a constant, devoted companion, he's perfect. Environment Toby has high energy and needs daily walks and playtime to stay happy and healthy. He's great on the leash and loves his walking adventures. Though he's trained, he may need pee pads available between walks to accommodate his schedule. His foster family hasn't used a crate with him and doesn't think he would like it at all—he much prefers being close to his people. He's been left alone for an hour or two at a time and has done well, showing that he can handle short periods by himself. Important to note: Toby is a jumper! His new family needs to be alert to this behavior and work with him on it. He's not too noisy, making him suitable for homes with shared walls. He's excellent in the car and travels beautifully. Toby loves to destroy most toys. He's enthusiastic and loves to play, but he's rough on his playthings. Durable toys and supervision during play will be important! Pets & People Toby has been great with all adults he's met so far and has had no problems with strangers. He's friendly, social, and happy to meet new people. His behavior around children hasn't been tested yet, so families with kids should proceed with careful introductions. His relationship with other dogs is still being assessed. He seems to want to approach some dogs but will bark at others, with some eliciting stronger reactions than others. Since there are no other dogs in his foster home, he hasn't been fully tested in a multi-dog environment. Patient introductions and possibly some training would help determine if he'd do well with canine companions. Due to his mixed reactions, a meet and greet will be needed if other dogs will be in the home. Toby has no issues around food and treats—he eats on his own without any possessiveness or anxiety. He's a well-mannered eater who doesn't cause any trouble at mealtime. Health & Special Needs Toby needs to lose some weight to be at his healthiest. At 19.6 lbs, he'd benefit from portion control and his daily exercise routine to reach an ideal weight. Beyond weight management, he's a healthy, active boy ready for his forever home. Location Toby is available for adoption from Bay Harbor Islands, FL. Please email eveassor@yahoo.com with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Toby is $375.00. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 19, 2026, 12:31 pm

Story
Looking for double the love? Meet Lili and Lulu, a bonded duo who will fill your home with kisses, cuddles, and endless entertainment.   Lili and Lulu are 3-4 year old dachshund mixes with gorgeous short red coats. Lili weighs 25.6 lbs and Lulu weighs 23.2 lbs (both are working on reaching healthier weights). These two are inseparable and must be adopted as a pair.   Lili is the confident leader of the pack—a huge lovebug who's always ready with kisses and attention. She's curious, easy-going, and loves to sniff everything on walks. Lulu is the smart, observant one who's initially more hesitant but incredibly sweet once she feels comfortable. She's energetic, playful, loves her toys, and is a devoted cuddler. Together, they play throughout the day, groom each other, and create the most beautiful bond you'll ever see.   Environment   These high-energy girls need daily walks and play sessions to stay happy and healthy. They're both fully potty trained and don't require a fenced yard, though outdoor time for exercise is important.   Lili is very sweet and gentle with people. She loves attention and is usually the first one to approach for pets and kisses. She had family visitors over and was friendly and happy the whole time.   Lulu likes attention and cuddles once she's warmed up to someone, but she's initially more hesitant with new people. They would do best with older, considerate children.   Pets & People With strangers, Lili sometimes does a "preventive bark" during walks—one or two barks as if to say "I'm here, stay back." Once she sees that her people know and trust the person, she becomes friendly and comes closer for greetings. Lulu can be hesitant with strangers and may take steps back, but once she sees her people trust someone, she'll approach and interact, eventually accepting pets.   The girls met another dachshund on a walk and did fine. During walks, Lili has strong reactions toward other animals—she pulls the leash and is eager to get closer, requiring redirection. She's done the "preventive bark" at stranger dogs from a distance. Lulu doesn't pay much attention to other dogs. Both girls have prey drive and will need experienced owners who can work on their leash reactivity.   Health Both girls will benefit from continued training, particularly around leash manners and reactivity. An experienced adopter who can provide structure, patience, and positive reinforcement will help these sisters thrive.   Location Lili and Lulu are available for adoption from Coral Springs, FL. Please email virginiabyron20@gmail.com with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The combined adoption fee for Lili and Lulu is $600.00.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 9, 2026, 7:43 pm

Story
Please ensure you understand and can meet the needs of this dog before applying. - Energy level: medium - Potty training: trained - Fenced yard: preferred but not required - Shared walls: not suitable  - People: adults and older children only - Dogs: all - Other: must be fed separately Overview Looking for a sweet, snuggly companion who will shower you with affection? Uku might be the velcro dog you've been dreaming of. Uku is an 11.5-year-old purebred red dachshund with a gorgeous long coat that has a touch of wire texture. He weighs 16 lbs and is the definition of a sweet senior boy. He came to Little Paws after displaying food aggression with a new dog in his previous home and unfortunately biting a toddler on the belly during a food-related incident. This lovebug adores showing off his belly for rubs and has the most endearing snore. He's incredibly affectionate with his people and just wants to be your constant companion. Environment Uku has a medium activity level and loves his daily walks and playtime. He's fantastic on the leash and genuinely enjoys his walking adventures. A fenced yard would be nice for him but isn't essential if you're committed to regular walks. The good news: Uku is fully potty trained! His previous owners used belly bands, but his foster family stopped using them (except at nighttime) and he hasn't had any accidents. He's reliable and consistent with his house training. Uku hates his crate and thrives on being close to his people. He has separation anxiety and doesn't do well being left alone for long periods. When left by himself, he barks and whines, so he needs a home without shared walls. He would do wonderfully in a home where someone is around most of the time, or where he has another calm dog companion to help ease his anxiety when you need to step out. Uku is excited about car rides! He does great in the car, whether he's in a crate or on someone's lap (just not the driver's), and can handle long distances without any issues. Pets & People Uku is sweet and loving with adults and has shown no aggression toward his foster family, even around food. However, due to his history of biting a toddler during a food-related incident, he should not be placed in a home with young children. He's extremely food motivated and will stare and beg relentlessly if he thinks you have food. Young children with snacks in their hands could trigger his food drive, so a home with only adults or older children who understand boundaries around food is essential. With strangers, Uku is a gem! He was wonderful with all three transporters who helped bring him to his foster home, did great at the vet, and is friendly with neighbors. Once he knows you're not a threat, he's all about the love. Uku does well with other dogs and doesn't mind having a canine companion around. He likes to be near his foster sister but doesn't show much interest in playing—he's more of a low-key, parallel friend. Another calm dog in the home would actually benefit him by helping reduce his separation anxiety. Now, about food: Uku is VERY food motivated. He knows ‘sit’ and ‘down’ for treats and understands he gets a reward after going potty. When giving him treats, offer them in your palm and remind him to "be easy." He eats very quickly and has food aggression, so he must be fed separately from other animals. He will steal food or treats from other pets if given the chance. In his foster home, he hasn't shown any aggression toward people around food, but his resource guarding with other animals is something his new family needs to manage carefully. Location Uku is available for adoption from Hendersonville, NC. Please email twoodward77@yahoo.com with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Uku is $250.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.March 7, 2026, 4:53 pm
