Forgive me for being a negligent foster mom and allow me to introduce you to HALLIE (knows Stella). ?? This sweet 14.5 yo senior collie mix, about 55 pounds, was returned to SAAP after 6 years through no fault of her own.  What I've learned about Hallie so far:  ? Housebroken,  ? Enjoys her crate but doesn't need one, ? Loves walks & her person, ?/? Low energy: fantastic if you're looking for a dog to quietly keep you company, but not a good fit if you're looking for a companion to join you on epic adventures ?/? She is said to be good with kids but not cats, however, I have neither.  ? She was quite interested & curious when seeing a bunny hop by on our walk, so maybe no small prey in her future home would be best. ?/? May be dog selective. While she was not enthused at all to meet my 8yo male resident dog who is half her size (teeth bared by both on opposite sides of the baby gate), she was happily enamored to meet & follow my neighbor's 7/8yo male dog who is twice her size along the shared fence line. ? I'd recommend no or very minimal steps for Hallie. I have only 2 for her to climb into the house and she will struggle sometimes & is a bit stiff when rising from a nap. Likely a bit of arthritis in her legs. Meet Duke! Duke is a 5-year-old, 55-lb, 100% Australian Cattle Dog (aka Blue Heeler) who loves being a shadow dog and would make an incredibly loyal friend! Duke is a certainly a Heeler! He is incredibly smart and can solve dog toy puzzles in record time. He is fun to train and catches on quickly to new skills. Duke is crate trained, completely house trained and knows how to "place on a cot. He would love the opportunity to learn even more tricks and useful skills! Along with his intelligence comes a wariness of new people. Duke needs lots of time to warm up to strangers and does best when new people give him the space that he needs. Duke's loyalty to his people can manifest in being protective when strangers are around. Duke will need to be adopted into a home without children as young kids do not always understand his boundaries. Duke loves going for walks and checking out his environment. He is still learning how to be polite when cars and bicycles pass by, but he could certainly improve in this area with more practice! He would love to have a yard with a fence where he could run around and exert some energy. His favorite game is fetch, and he is impressively agile at catching the ball! If you're looking for a smart, loyal dog that can be high-energy when you want an adventure buddy but also loves to chill when the time comes, Duke may be your perfect match! Space is a 9 month old medium size dog. She loves other dogs and has done well with cats. Space needs a special adopter that will give her time to realize people aren’t so scary. She has made a TON of progress at her foster home but is still very timid at times. She gets SO excited to see you after work but still only wants to be pet on her own terms. She will do best in a home with no children, another dog to help build her confidence, and her own yard, as she is not leash trained. She is very fearful of the leash, leading us to believe she may have had a traumatic experience involving a leash before coming to HART. This dog absolutely loves to be comfy. All she wants is a comfortable bed or to curl up by your feet on the couch. If you’re looking for a playmate for your dog that does not beg for constant attention or a friend to keep your dog busy while you’re at work, Space could be a great choice for you. Are you ready to hit the jackpot? KENO is a stunning mixed breed girl looking for a home. Keno isn't just a pretty face, this girl is SMART. Someone has done a considerable amount of training with her. She was an owner surrender at a rural shelter. Keno appears to be a herding breed type mix, probably some border collie and/or some Australian Shepherd and who knows what else? She's about 2 years old and fully grown at 38 pounds, a nice mid-sized dog. Keno (her actual name) has excellent recall, knows sit and is well trained in the proper way to play fetch, bringing back the ball and laying down in front of you waiting for the next toss or command. She has lovely leash manners, too. Keno is active and athletic and needs a home with an adopter who will insure she gets plenty of physical and mental exercise. Keno would be a great partner for a runner and would thrive in agility training. She's great with similar-sized dogs but not so good with small dogs. Keno loves toys and fetch and is best suited to a home with a physically fenced yard. She has a herding breed personality and would not be a good choice for a first time adopter or a home with small children. If you'd like to meet stunning Keno, please fill out a dog adoption application at dreamhouserescue.org. We are happy to arrange a private meet with an approved adopter. You can meet Keno at our weekly adoption event, Saturday noon-2 at PetSmart Eastgate. All of our fully-vetted adoptable dogs go to prospective homes for a one-week trial period to make sure the dog and home are the right fit before an adoption is finalized. We only adopt dogs into homes where all current pets are spayed/neutered and current on vaccines and heartworm and flea and tick prevention. We do check veterinary references to make sure adopters are compliant with standard veterinary care. Our adoption fee covers the dog’s veterinary care, including spay/neuter surgery, vaccines, microchip, deworming, flea and tick prevention, heartworm prevention and any other needed veterinary care. A deposit is required to take a dog home for a trial period. The deposit will be applied to the dog’s final adoption fee.
