Story
Bongo is an active pup who loves to play with toys. We are recommending reward-based training, kids 10+, and no small cats or dogs in the home. Bongo is also available to be fostered through our Home Enrichment Foster program. This program would allow him to be fostered in a home setting to give him a break from the shelter, while remaining available for adoption. If you have any questions, please give us a call at (314)951-1588, or stop in at our Maryland Heights location!

Story
Marley was a rescue. She is super sweet but has always been a little timid. She is older now (about 14) and we have had her for about 7 years. She had dental problems that are resolved but tends to like only wet to soft food. She does eat treats. She eats regular and is fairly healthy but seems to be losing a little hearing and a little of her eyesight. She also has a little arthritis in one hip but can get around just fine but better with a little pain shot and a daily pill that she can take crushed with her medicine. She currently needs a little Tender Care and would need retraining for going outside for potty. I don’t have a doggie door and work long hours. I would appreciate a respite myself.

Story
Sweeten your life with your very own Almond Joy! My momma was a collie mix and I never saw my daddy - so no idea what he was, but I'm a delight. There's no sugarcoating it- I am adorable and I know it!! Sometimes you feel like a nut? If today is that day - take me home! If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2259550##

Story
A beautiful update from Sybil's foster :) ------ I've had Sybil for about two months now. She was with a foster who couldn't keep her anymore, so I met her immediately and knew she had a great temperament and was a good dog. It was definitely worth bringing her home and working with her. I have a kennel for the foster dogs, and they all have their own large yard. And man, is she having fun! She loves romping in her yard. She meets the other dogs when I walk them, prancing around as they go by her run. She is one happy dog. She has a good amount of energy but isn't hyper. She is doing great in my kennel. She is pretty good about staying calm and not joining in the barkfest when everyone else is excited. She's great with me and independent, but she likes her pats occasionally. She leans on my leg and sometimes falls over for belly rubs. When I clean her yard, she follows me around. She's not overly demanding, which I appreciate. She's going to make someone a very dedicated and fun friend. She's a good dog and will be even better and more stable when she leaves here. She's worth the effort and will be an excellent companion for some lucky person.

Story
Love Bear is a 3 year old Shepard mix. He was abandoned by his previous owner and is still a little confused on where his landing will be. In the time he has lived with us in our farm- he has been an absolute delight . He is a gentlemen to any and all dogs and cats he has met.  If you have a ball of any kind- you will be his best friend. I have learned they are his security blanket so he has many of them! He is hesitant with men, a secret of of his we just don’t know about so time patience and space and he will eventually warm up and learn to trust.    Bear is a perfect dog inside - he does not shed, he does not potty and is very good at finding you to go out when he needs. He doesn’t jump or get in your personal space. If you’re willing to let him in your bed, he will lay at the foot and not move all night but move when asked.   He loves to ride in the car and go new places but is still learning to walk gently on the leash so he doesn’t overpower his walker.     Bear is such a handsome boy with so much potential and he will make such a wonderful addition to any home! If you are interested, complete the  Adoption Application  on our website at  www.NeedyPaws.org  and we will contact you.  Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO. Lovebear’s adoption fee is $275.00, which includes up-to-date vaccinations, heartworm testing and preventative, spay/neuter and microchip. We are a 100% foster-based rescue and all of our dogs live in approved foster homes. We are dedicated to finding the best Forever Homes, and will perform home visits and conduct veterinarian and reference checks for each potential adopter. Story
Kodak is a 5 month old female who is part collie/lab mixed (?).  She is spayed, microchipped and utd on shots, heartworm prevention and flea medication. Kodak will require a fenced yard and at least one other dog to be in household since she is young and needs to learn from another dog. She is very shy and it takes a little bit for her to come out of her shell. Once she does she’s the typical puppy. She is teething right now so nothing is safe around her lol. She is crate trained and doing well with potty training. She does use potty pads so nothing accidents anywhere else. She walks good on a leash and is getting better all the time. She is cat friendly. I believe she would do better in a home with  older kids. She just needs extra love so she can learn to trust people. She gets along with all dogs.   If interested, please  complete the  Adoption Application  on our website at  www.NeedyPaws.org  and we will contact you.  Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO. Story
Lady is a 1-1.5 year old Blue Heeler mix. Being young, she is absolutely full of energy and needs a home where she can go on walks regularly and a fenced in yard would definitely be a plus so she can execute her cute zoomies. She loves playing with balls, stuffed animals and enjoys chewing on antlers. Lady is sweet in nature and in the short time we’ve had her she seems to pick up on basic commands pretty quickly, treat motivated. In true Heeler fashion she has the ability to be stubborn but she’s willing to learn and ultimately wants to please whoever she’s with. Please help this sweet lady find the loving home she deserves.
