Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $250 plus taxMeet Finn Finn is an 8-year-old, 50-lb mellow guy who loves napping, short walks, and hanging out near his people. He enjoys toys (especially if treats are involved!), can be cuddly, and also appreciates his personal space. Finn is anxious around loud noises and reactive when he sees other dogs, so he’s looking for a quiet home where he can be the only pet. He hasn’t lived with cats but has ignored chickens. He greets people calmly outside the home and politely “announces” visitors with a bark. He does best with a predictable routine and would thrive in a home where someone is around more often—his current home’s 12-hour shifts are just too hard on him. Respectful children are fine. Finn is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and eats a prescription urinary diet. If you’re looking for a loyal, laid-back companion, Finn is ready to meet you.      Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.  or    When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.  Long Distance Adoptions: Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We require a meet of the pet prior to adoption, which means coming to MARS.  We do not transport to potential adopters. How to learn more about a pet: Complete the application (click on the button above) to start our process for adopting or fostering a MARS Pet. Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Post Adoption: Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. We highly recommend Pet Insurance.  Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance. Pet Breeds: The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility or Shelter partner. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess without knowing a pet’s full history. //

Hi! My name is Henry Waternoose, and I am from Arkansas! From his foster: Puppies don’t get much better than Henry Waternoose. He’s well behaved, easy going, and gentle. He sleeps through the night, happily greets strangers, and is highly food motivated which makes training easier. Need a buddy for the kids? Henry thinks tiny humans are great! Have a dog already? Henry loves to play! Although his name is from Monster’s Inc, his mission is not to collect screams but rather lots and lots of snuggles. Henry doesn’t like to snuggle up next to you. Henry likes to snuggle on you. If you think Henry sounds like he’s a good fit for your home it’s because he probably is.

Story
Location: Woodbury, MN Meet Shadow 🖤 (Professional Observer. Selective Snuggler. Equal-Opportunity Cuddler.) Shadow is the kind of dog who watches the room before entering it. He’s thoughtful, intelligent, and takes his job as “emotional barometer” very seriously. Once he decides you’re safe, he’ll reward you with quiet companionship, soulful looks, and the occasional dramatic sigh. He’s affectionate—but in a low-key, meaningful way. Shadow isn’t here to sit on your face or steal your snacks. He prefers leaning against you, settling nearby, and choosing closeness rather than demanding attention. Once comfortable, he happily shares his affection with the people he trusts — including curling up for a snuggle when the mood is right. Shadow is kennel trained, house-trained, and highly tuned in to his surroundings. He thrives with predictability, clear boundaries, and humans who speak fluent Dog Body Language™. Because he’s sensitive and perceptive, he does best with older kids or teens, and with younger kids only if introductions are slow and respectful. Energy-wise, Shadow is solidly medium. He enjoys walks, toys, and short play sessions—but he’s equally talented at napping. He walks nicely on leash, appreciates calm “sniff and stroll” walks, and does not require a fenced yard. Bonus fun fact: his recall is quite good when expectations are clear (he likes rules—don’t tell the other dogs). Shadow can live in a multi-dog household, especially with calm, socially appropriate dogs and humans who manage shared resources like food, chews, and prime nap spots. With the right setup, he’s capable of peaceful co-existence and selective play—but he’s not into chaos, drama, or free-for-alls. Shadow bonds deeply but not possessively. He’s not a one-person-only dog — once he feels safe, he’s happy to snuggle with trusted humans and settle in wherever the vibes are calm. If you’re looking for a smart, soulful dog who will quietly choose you (and then maybe your partner too), Shadow might just be the perfect addition to your home. --------------- The best way to show interest in an animal is to submit an adoption application by visiting our website (www.rescuenetworkmn.org). Location: St Paul, MN Meet Juno! She has the cutest "masked" face and behind that mask is a beautiful girl with the sweetest temperament. She is eager to please and very affectionate. She's got the perfect amount of puppy energy combined with superb cuddling skills. Juno is housetrained and is quickly learning new commands like "sit" and "down". She gets along well with her resident dogs and loves toys. Juno is working on gaining weight as she came into the rescue underweight, but she loves eating so will quickly get back to an ideal weight. --------------- The best way to show interest in an animal is to submit an adoption application by visiting our website (www.rescuenetworkmn.org). Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Say hello to Ember, a curious, spunky and energetic sweet little pup who loves to play! Enjoy some snuggles once she finally gets worn out. She came into rescue scared and unsure but she has been bravely settling in and letting her personality shine through. Ember does have typical herding breed “nippy” tendencies so she will do best in a home with older considerate children who understand puppy behavior. Ember will do best as an only pup or with a medium to large dog buddy to match her energy. She is reactive to small dogs and cats so a home without them is a must. A fenced in yard or acreage is a must since she is an active herding mix who needs room to roam and explore. She’s still learning about the world and can be nervous with new people and loud noises.  Potty training is underway and she has been doing great peeing outside but still is working on pooping outside. Crate training is a work in progress as she is getting used to the routine and improving each day. Ember can be vocal as many herding mixes are so a home that doesn’t mind some puppy chatter is ideal.  With patience, consistency and training then Ember will be your loyal companion. She will thrive in a home with someone who understands herding breeds.  Ember is from a local impound. Story
What can we say, other than have a tissue close by for this beautiful girl's story. Let us start by saying this 8 year old girl named Lassie was loved, and with a heavy heart she was surrendered over to rescue out of love and not for convenience. Her story begins in a single home where her people were unable to have children and she became the pride of lady of the household. Understanding the bond Lassie had with her people, they were of a community that is not welcoming to animals in their home, nor the regular traditional lifestyle of most. Lassie made her life living under the stoop of the house in a state considerably warmer than Minnesota and tending to the daily chores with her people in rural setting all the while being the wife's sidekick and enjoyment to allow some motherly instincts to share with her fur child. When Lassie's lady owner fell ill, the couple was banished from their community simply because her loving husband wanted to seek medical care outside of the community for his wife. He went against tradition, and upon seeking this care, the wife was diagnosed with an end stage cancer. News that no family wants to endure. They then travelled north to Minnesota bringing Lassie with them where they stayed with friends/relatives until the medical condition continued its path and worsened. They were asked to leave as it was too much for the others to endure and watch. They were offered to return back to their relatives here in Minnesota but they were not allowed to bring Lassie back since they already had pets of their own. The expectation was for the husband to take Lassie out to the field where nobody would witness a last moment with the dog, to dispose of her, and to bury her. There is no need to explain how, because it didn't happen. The husband couldn't do this to his wife's fur child and the love that she had for this dog regardless of her condition of no longer communicating as the cancer is spreading. This older couple had made friends outside of their community when they lived in the warmer state and the husband was communicating via traditional mail of the situation and their tear felt decisions they had to make with the forks of life in the way. It was because of this beautiful friendship, the loving couple outside of the community began taking the burden away searching for rescues for Lassie. Some rescues were full, but then the call came in here at NWMNAR, and the story was relayed. There was no hesitation, room was made regardless, Lassie had a place to go. The worry put aside in the husband's mind to no longer have to do the unthinkable and the guilt he would have felt towards his wife, especially considering her condition and peace could be felt by all. The friendly couple drove up to Minnesota to retrieve Lassie and speak with their friend, and delivered Lassie to the rescue late October where she now resides and is looking for that special person who has the heart to open to her and embrace her as well. She arrived with a simple surrendered signature of a loving husband whom let go of a dog that meant so much to his wife and was a part of their family and had the courage to stand up for his wife against all beliefs of his community and to do what was right for their fur child and give her a chance to be someone else's pride and joy. He too, will have to find a new place to go when his wife passes, and we hope and pray this will help comfort him. We wish for Lassie as well to have a home where there is someone to keep her warm and tell her it's all going to be ok, when her world was just as much tipped upside down as her people, where life changes in an instant and we are never the same again. It's a moment to reflect back at the sacrifices some people have to make. While often times in rescue we assume the worst, when sometimes we just need to sit, listen to the story, wear their shoes for a moment, open our hearts and realize, sometimes we all need to come together and help in any way we can. We hope and pray for peace for this husband and his wife. And we are grateful to their friends whom so willing stopped their lives to find this fur child a place to go. Our hearts are overwhelmed and wish for peace for all. Fine Print: All dogs of NWMNAR are screened at the headquarters in Ada, Mn until they are vetted.
