Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Kodi is a young collie/chow/pit bull mix who came to the shelter as an owner surrender. He's only 5-6 months old. He will be a pretty large dog at maturity. He was surrendered as his owner realized that she didn't have the time he requires for training and exercising. He has been vet checked and neutered and his fee is $150. Kodi is a pretty well mannered boy for still being young. He will require basic obedience training and exercise and would do best in a home in which he's not left alone for long hours. Kodi did live with cats and older kids. He has done well with other dogs, too. He does have a thick and shaggy coat and will require regular brushing. NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications must be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. Keep an eye on your emails if you apply. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventatives, and spayed or neutered.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 25, 2025, 12:56 pm

Story
Name: Hailey Age: 3 years Gender: Female Breed: Collie/Lab/Heeler mix Weight: 50 lbs Dog friendly: yes  Cat friendly: yes Child friendly: yes House trained: yes Crate trained: yes but not needed does fantastic left out Energy level: Moderate Temperament: independent, handler-focused, kind, gentle, intelligent, loyal Requirement: Not apartment appropriate but could be in a townhome or condo Adoption fee: $500 +tax To adopt, go to: www.mendingspirits.org/apply-to-adopt.html From the Foster Family:  Hailey has been in our home for many months, through raising her 8 pups, through heartworm treatment, and recently dental work.  She is an energetic companion who likes walks and outside sniffing, exploring, etc.  Her earlier life as a stray taught her to be wise about survival. She resembles Aussie and Cattle dog traits, as she is alert, guarding, and loyal to her human.   She has been around other adult dogs often and does well and likes to play.  During her time with us, she's had many social opportunities with people and dogs of all ages.  This dog deserves a good, loving home. (Not that any dog doesn’t) but she has been through enough.   She is unable to do some things with her mouth - just because she is missing many of her front teeth.  They were damaged beyond repair when she came into care and needed to be removed.  She doesn’t require special food, and will enjoy some bones and chew treats as she has her back teeth to eat with.  Once she acclimates to her home and family she should be an easy dog to care for.  February 25, 2025, 8:07 am

Story
Farrah is a cattle dog mix born in April 2023. She came in as a stray with another dog. Farrah isn't very fond of the other dogs here at the shelter, so it might be best, if you have another dog, to do a meet and greet first to see how it goes. She walks well on a leash and likes attention from those she considers her friends. Do you want to meet Farrah and become one of her friends? She would like to meet you! All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Fill out an application to adopt at freeborncountyhs.org When transitioning your new pet home please allow for at least 4-6 weeks for your pet to adjust to their new home. They will need this time to decompress, and adjust to a new routine and environment. During that time we will provide check ins and counseling to ensure a successful transition. Please review all basic adoption requirements listed on our website before applying. We take finding the right homes for the animals in our care very seriously. They deserve nothing but the best! Please allow 2-7 days for applications to be processed. If an animal is listed in foster care, these pets are not at our facility, but are in foster care homes. They are still available for adoption, and meet and greets are done with pre-approved applicants only. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email at freeborncohumanesociety@gmail.com, send us a message on Facebook, or call or text 507-377-8501.

Story
Darling is a smaller cattle dog mix born in January 2021. She came in as a stray with another dog. Darling isn't very fond of the other dogs here at the shelter, so she would probably do best as an only dog. Darling is very smart and aware of everything going on around her. She loves people and loves attention. She walks well on a leash and rides well in a car. Darling is eager to find a new family and start a new life - would you like to be her new best friend? She hopes so! All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped.
